Maybe DAVID Gilmour! But you're right; these are some of the best I've heard lately. Jammed with the Greats of the late '60's- 70's; this Youtube has got me practising my 'calouses'-off! Hope to get some Vid's out soon!
If this is a joke its not funny, If your being serious you should be killed! Where are the actual decent guitarists! Half of these guys aint even heard of, Where is slash and zakk wylde? even steve vai? Honestly YOU SUCK! Your list is full of fucking idiots with the worst tones imaginable. They suck so bad that even deaf people are complining! YOOOU SUUUUUCK!
Eric Mantel is on Steve Vai's record label and has been putting out RECORDS since the 70s! Go to DIGITAL NATIONS website! This list is someone's opinion! Also if you read the beginning of the video it clearly states that this video is in no particular order.....this is a reflection of what this person likes, again this is just someone's opinion. Check out Eric Mantel's website....

Fucking cheater!!!! Andy timmons doesnt play that, that song belongs to Reb Beach and its called "Black Magic".... and if you would listen to andy timmons you would know his tone is the best out of this 10... asswipe...
guys with best tone to me are Eric Johnson, SRV, EVH, Gary Moore(thin lizzy!) , Michael Bloomfield, Gilmour, Brian May, Jeff Beck, Duane Allman and Derek Trucks, maybe angus young too! and hendrix obviously... and jimi page, but not cos it's a particularly nice tone it's the howling yowling scream of society losing it's virginity to proper rock music!
Really man, Eric Johnson is in 1st place and on the list but where are the rest "Eric Clapton,Van Halen, Slash and kirk hammet that are really the bests ever world guitarrist. To me Joe Satriani is the ONE(my opinion and my favorite) but the others are also really good. you ppl, dont think so just 2 points Get " Not of This Earth (1986) " 2nd you must see here a live from "Rubina" 1st time i ear it i was 4 maybe 5 years old now im 26 and i still ear it every days
Great list. i might just rearrange the order a teeny bit and add John petrucci, vai on there somewhere but overral. great that you got lane and govan in there...they are just...Superior TO EVERYONE AND EVERYTHING.
People! this video is about the guitarists he views having the best tone, not skill or influence. So for all you people saying "where's eddie?", Eddie had shitty tone, even he admits it himself. I mean you can't expect much from a DIY project where he knew close to nothing about electronics. But I still love him anyways
@Thuggybcobhc agree with Gilmour...but Bilbert has a crappy too much treble tone and Vai...well Vai has a great tone..but not better than any of these...
so wheres Jimi Hendrix, Buckethead, Eddie Van Halen, Jimmy Page, Kirk Hammett, John Pettrucci, Steve Ouimette, B.B. King, Slash, Dave Mustaine, or Eric Clapton.
Keep in mind this list is about guitar TONE. Therefore, Paul Gilbert is out. Jimmy Page is arguably out. Glad to see SRV on here. Though I do think Gilmour should've been included, too.
Andy timmons song it's fail.(scuse me, my english is very bad)
La canción es de Reb Beach.
faltó santana, si hablamos de tono como timbrica, pues tiene uno de los mejores sustain, falta Frank Gambale, Greg Howe, Ritchie Kotzen muchos mas por cierto
Another great list, and I know it's gotta be hard to settle on just 10. You did a good job. My personal opinion, i wouldn't include Satriani on this list, just because I've never really liked his tone. Great player, but his tone just never did it for me. Too processed and, for lack of a better word, "alien."
theme is good, but picking...total disaster! OK for Guthri, but other...If you preffer less known gitarists,OK,but where is Ilan Ashkenazi or Kai Yakamashii??? For me,best tone have Jason Becker and early Yngwie
haha i posted the same thing a while back, but i changed my mind. shawn lane has the best distortion tone in my mind, but his clean tone isn't that amazing. eric johnson has phenomenal clean and distortion tone.
@rambo00rock17 Dude u gotta clean up ur ears n stop listening to great amounts of distortion. More gain doesnt mean good tone, MAB soudns like a freakin video game. Then again, i can tell ur beginner at guitar and a metal head by dat list.
@UKMarines if youve never heard of srv (stevie ray vaughn)or eric johnson... i feel sorry for you. check out srv doing Pride and Joy, or Couldnt Stand the Weather. check out eric johnson doing "Cliffs of Dover"
Shawn Lane has by far the best technique overall, and his tone is almost as good as Eric Johnson. I don't know why you put him at #9 since his tone is pretty similar to Johnson who you put at #1 (where I agree he belongs).
@ltmittens his real name is james marshall hendrix. jimmy is a nickname for james also, hendrix just chose jimi to stand out. it doesnt make a difference. i personally call him jimi, and so do most people, but some people call him jimmy which is fine
hmm... maybe a more appropriate title would be top 10 electric guitarists. I mean if were talking about greatest guitarists of all time then you really have to include some of the acoustic and classical masters.
richy sambora, jimmy page, eric clapton, slash, vinnie vincent, ace freyley and eddy van halen are the best. i don't think that there are better guitarists
My personal fav list: 1. George Lynch 2. Warren DeMartini 3. Ywingie Malmsteen 4. Eddie Van Halen 5. Steve Vai 6. Andy Timmons 7. Akio Shimizu 8. Vinnie Moore 9. Michael Schenker 10. Gary Moore Whos' are your favorite tones guys?
My favorites are Jimmy Page, Pat Metheny and Jimi Hendrix... And there's many like Al Di Meola, Wes Montgomery and Ritchie Blackmore and etc... But everyone has their taste!
well the only one on the list and he should be # 1 because he is the greatest of of all time is Stevie Ray Vaughan., the other guitar players on this list are all talented but not deserving to be in or on anyone's top 10.
too bad only male guitarists know or care about andy timmons and john petrucci is. i've never even heard of one non musician owning any of their records. a good guitarist writes music to serve a song and a greater purpose as a band, not to just show off technical skill so they can have a sausagefest fanbase of male guitarists.
Like Pat Metheny for songs like As It Is, Minuano, Third Wind... Great skill, great writer, amazing music! Also he's kinda showing off his skills on Into The Dream, but still it's an amazing song... Also many acoustic songs, that are just so shocking like A Map Of The World, Don't Know Why, Beyond The Missouri Sky.... He's amazing, but it depends if you like Jazz Fusion music.... And in live versions, yes he can easily improvise amazingly. Because he knows how to play...
too bad that isnt even what were talking about. Were talking about tone, and there is no question that timmons and petrucci have amazing tone.
on your note: duh about andy timmons, because his music is all instrumental. of course no mainstream listener would listen to it. its about the guitar.
and i know MANY people who love dream theater who are not musicians, and if they arent they usually want to become one to make the genius that is DT.
depends about the guitar player... They could prefer skill or tone, like for example The Edge, guitarist of U2, he preferred the different tones, different sounds that his guitar make. You can't say that this is the rule and everyone has to follow it, it doesn't mean a player is bad at skill when good at tone, or vice-versa... But still guitarists are allowed to choose between whatever they prefer as a guitar player, it shows what is more important to the guitarist... So, yeah! :P long speech...
kirk hammett has awful,"hey i need to stomp on my wah wah"tome. chris broderick has great tone. you are also missing michaell lee firkins, man has greeat clean, yet shredable tone
Great group of guitarists... but I think tone is even more subjective than technique! Eric Johnson met Shawn when he was very young (12-14) and looked out for him like a big brother... I believe he admitted to picking up on more things than he shared. imo Shawn is King of Everything!!!Good to see Guthrie and Timmons... no Holdsworth? and if it's just tone... I guess Santana too;)
where the hell is Buckethead and Jimmy Paige??!?!??!

too bad only male guitarists know or care about andy timmons and john petrucci is. i've never even heard of one non musician owning any of their records. a good guitarist writes music to serve a song and a greater purpose as a band, not to just show off technical skill so they can have a sausagefest fanbase of male guitarists.

Like you know what 'skill' is...
LinkBulletBill 2 years ago
i know that skill is more important than tone. is that good enough?
blastofo 2 years ago
depends about the guitar player...

Where is Uli Jon Roth, the king of tone!
and Jeff Beck, the second best

a pretty good list, but playing wise Guthrie takes all. Eric Johnson definitely takes best tone
