  • Kata the true essence of karate if performed correctly, the exercise for longevity and endurance, through kata one can mend the soul. Those you say"how would that work" make me laugh as they totaly miss the true concept of true karate

  • I don't know if it's the right or the wrong way to do it as I haven't seen a single person execute Saifa the same way even in Shito Ryu style only but I must say that it's the closest one to the way we do it in our class. I like the speed he uses.

  • muito bommmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

  • I love this one !

  • Did anyone note that he farts on the last movement of the Kata?

  • my favourite part of this is the hammer fist to the head... so brutal

  • saifa is a kata of gojyuryu. A dancer of the kites is more unsightly than a beginner in defiance of a meaning of the skill.

  • Uss

Sensie , icant see whene u turn, do something

    Domanigeto gosamasita

  • It isn't great, especially for a black belt. It seems to me like he has done it so many times it's ok for him to short cut it.

  • @MissNMAP Demonstration is made by Hasegawa, 11 times World Champ! and one of the best kata trainer in the world.

This is a shitoryu version and for me it is perfect...

  • this is no the way saifa is supposed to be, the art has definitely been lost.

  • @CrimsonTheEnigma How is it suppossed to be then?

  • @kashpc

can't show you through comments... I was trained by taguchi's top student. It's really sad how it has been lost. Theres so much more in it.

  • This is similar to what I learned as a green belt but not quite the same.

  • MAN immag get my new belt tommorow, i gotta learn this before though.

  • hahahahaha, he's got a belt exam TOMORROW, and he's gonna learn the kata OVERNIGHT and get his belt. Some serious Dojo... some tough examiner... I can only imagine what kind of FEARSOME FIGHTERS this Dojo produces, hahahahaha

  • I think it's a good kata shown well tp be honest.

I'm using it to learn anyway, although I'm adapting it to how I've seen my sensei do it...

Am I the only one that thinks he farted at 50 seconds?

  • yep,he farted

  • Will you show us how to do it properly, please?

  • may not look "pretty" like for a competition... but this guy UNDERSTANDS his kata

  • Agree entirely; looks good to me.

  • sound fx are sweet

  • Where is the Kiai point?

Did you guys hear any KIAIIII????;-))

  • That was actually pretty good I come frm a Goju-Ryu background & we do it slightly diff

but I still think this is one is great

  • the power is his uppercuts is awesome not to mention his technique, u can tell at the end with his miwashi that is is shito ryu

  • But i have also conditioned my mind and body to do this final part of the kata this way aswell

  • I was taught the grabbing the head also.

    1) pivot 180 into gyaku nekoashi datchi grabbing opponents head.

    2) step back into nekoashi datchi while performing final waza

  • I learned a different ending than that.. O.o In the version I was taught, the ending was to grab the opponent's head, and break his neck in a pretty awesome way. Then it was finished.. hmm... my sensei was 3. dan, so I dont believe he made any mistakes .. wierd with so much difference in katas, depending on where you are, huh?

  • man i remember when i did goju a few years ago i never got too far in it. Shihan died, but it this was the kata i would say i was best at. Couldnt remember any of it hough until i was reminded of it watching a kung fu kata.

Made me want to find it, now i have i just gotta re-learn the techniques :P (i was never good at remembering the japanses names for the kata / moves... or the english for that matter)

  • His movements are so clear ! I'd love to have the same !

  • nice japanese goju saifa..

bending the neck forward is still wrong tho..

saifa is the first kata in goju, what style has it as a nidan grading kata ?!

  • in goju ryu it's the third kata, not the first, gekisaidai ichi and ni are before saifa

  • Yes.

  • in goju ryu it's the third kata, not the first, gekisaidai ichi and ni are before saifa

  • there are many kihon kata.. there are gekisai

beyond ichi and ni.. these were made up

    before ww11..

theoriginal eight kata brought from china

    start with saifa..

saifa is, the first goju kata..

if you count from say gekisai san, then

saifa would be the fourth goju kata . .

  • There is no right or wrong. It depends on your application. Different masters intepret differently.

  • I believe the bending of the neck relates to the bunkia. on that movement, you are grabbing somebody's head who has gone for your leg or ankle with a grab. As seni1975 said, its got do do with application of the kata from different masters.

  • Beautiful kata. All nidan katas are beautiful.

  • the bunkai is not the kata..

in the bunkai you mention, the neck is still

    not, bent . .

the body may be lowered forward, but the neck

and back stay aligned and not, bent ..

this is a fundamental basic element of waza..

  • Fantastic, he really made it flow so beautifully.

    I'm with GKR BTW!

  • Wow, I'm currently learning Saifa and that just.. wow.

    anybody study Go-Kan-Ryu or GKR?

  • yeh i do

  • Thats one of the most beatiful Saifa Katas i have seen!

  • what a beautibul kata

  • it looks very smart indeed, thought its very different to the style of saifa that my style does. its a mix between wadoryu and shotokan and our version just seems to be alot long and more complicated, the long stances give me the impression its a shotokan version but im not sure, but its a advanced kata for our style and you have to learn it to take 2nd dan plus one more advanced kata

  • I'm looking at this man doing Saifa and it's amazing to see what a true master do a kata. Now you compare it to tadashi"hollywood"yamashita shorin ryu and tadashi looks like a amatuer. I think yamashita ruined shorin ryu and that's what hpppened when you are money greedy like tadashi, the art get watered down!
