When you recieve 21 Air Medals awards for your sea services, when i see the video i have tears in my eyes for the ones who have gone before! Semper Paratus!
Why even bother sending out a small boat? There was a time when if the CG responded to a boat fire, we put the fire out or sunk the boat, which ever came first. Now, we just seem to go out in our pretty little fast boats, recover the people and let the property burn. I sorta find this a little embarrassing. No disrespect to the crew(s) as I know their hands are tied.
I am trained as an EMT, Structural Firefighter and Wildland Firefighter. Trust me I know what I'm talking about. I am currently going to school to get a Degree in Wildland Fire, the list I gave above is correct and current.
I was on that crew and we actually put water on the fire for about 5 minutes then the SDHP and SDFD came out so we turned it over to them

Priority list: 1st-Life, 2nd-Property, 3rd-Resources.

Oneskewonder, Like I said WE USED TO go out, get the people then put out the fire. That why during the inital report, you do this.
1. get location
2. get nr of pob
3. get discription of vsl (you forget this if the boats burning as it's not hard to find)
4. total up all the above and send out the resources.
Theres more behind the above that non-coasties will see but its all about "saving life and property"..
