But if he/she has a question she can only communicate with the director via gesturing cos whatever she says will be broadcast live... that's y i think she is trying to confirm whether she is going to read this story on the autocue (tele-prompter)

Bloopers like this do happen. CNN, ABC, BBC, Fox etc etc all make such mistakes. BBC even interviewed the wrong guy once.
