@amgarrow Congrats - a fine man. I had the opportunity to follow the POL escape route last year which Nancy used to escape across the Pyrenees. I understand her ashes will be scattered over the mountains near Montlucon soon, during the spring. RIP.
In my minds eye, this Lady was more of a hero than Hillary ever was.Her picture should be on our 100 dollar note. Rest in Peace and thankyou for the work you did. A true soldier
Descansa en paz querida Nancy. Tu lucha, fuerza y valentía por la liberación de Europa fueron la suma de tus ideales de LIbertad y amor a la Vida. Descansa ahora junto a tu amado esposo. Abrazo desde Holanda
This lady, trying to write something to express a tribute to her is difficult, it would only be words, her actions spoke louder than any words could describe. A true Heroine.A true NZ treasure that wasn't given the recognition she deserved
My father was with Nancy on her escape from France in 1943. They remained friends till his passing in 2004. He was also a new Zealander and along with several other evaders made the journey across the Pyrenees together.
she saved you uncle from a prison camp.. she paid a gaurd off and he walked him out the door wearing a gaurd's uniform then she had him smuggled over the pyrenees.
My Grandma told me that she had asked Nancy Wake if she knew my Grand Father during the War which she did, my Grand Father was part of the SOE but never talked about it much, which is totally understandable. It has been hard to find out what he did, all we know was that at the time his boss was Rene Hardy, he blew up bridges and de-railed trains, gave demonstrations on how to use a bazooka and explosives. And maybe part of a group called G4(?).
My father was best friends with Johnny Forward. I think they were in POW camp together. I met Nancy Wake a couple of times but was too young to appreciate. Johnny went back to OZ and wanted us to follow him out bak in the late 50's early 60's.
They asked if if they could in 1985 and she told them that she would not accept it because they hadn't done it when they should have just after the war.
Yes she was awarded by the Australian government but sometime after 2001...! Prior to that the A government stated that she wasn't really entitled as she hadn't fought for Australia.
France gave her 2 Croix de Guerre with Palm, the Croix de Guerre with star, the Medaille de la Resistance and then in 1988 the awarded her the Chevalier de Legion d'Honneur. The Americans awarded her their medal of Freedom, the British the George Medal.
On a personal note, she is right up there on my list of the greatest women in history. I liked the video, it shines a tiny bit of light for all who are trying to find out who she is.
Nice wee video. Nancy deserves every bit of praise and attention that comes her way. She faced teh greatest evil in history first hand and saw and did terrible things so budbuddyetc(who I notice has posted no videos himself) could be free to express themselves, however inarticulately.
She must have done a good job too if all he has to criticise is a pleasant harmless slideshow like this.
i read once where she said she enjoyed the fact that she had the honour of saying no to about 5000 randy frenchmen

This has been the most 'significant' thing found today.
Thank-you...to all that indirectly brought me here.

We need another Nancy Wake to stop the Islamic invasion of France and the rest of the Free World.
We must never forget that appeasement didn't work with the Nazis, so it certainly won't work with the Muslims.
It is a documented fact that the Muslims deeply influenced the Nazis to kill the Jews.

Nancy didn't care that she wasn't awarded anything.

That's more than the French gave her. :P
