and there was a crane and divers in the river in case that something would happen. When the car jumped and it really reached the destination, the director said: That was too perfect, let's do it again :D. The driver declined of course. THIS is what a call a movie stunt!!!
that whistle sound puts it down but anyways, i't was a great success in those times. This was the first scene that was actually calculated by a computer that was used by police for calculating trajectories and speeds for road accidents. The director of this movie just used it to calculate the needed speed, weight and angle for the car.. They also had to literally cut this car in half and extend it for 5 centimeters. The driver was lying on the floor and the pedals were in the back of the car.
Am I the only one who loves the whistle noise? Lets be honest, TMWTGG was what James Bond would be if it was a comedy. May as well play it that way throughout.
HAHAHAAAAAAA NO WAY IS THAT THE ACTUAL SCENE!! ...theres not ACTUALLY a cartoon slide whistle [!] on the soundtrack, right? i mean, i havent seen this movie; but this is james bond!! surely this is some sort of youtube joke video...right?!
To marleySux:.. Your comment "needs mythbusters" is untrue.
This stunt was designed by Cornell Aeronautical Laboratory and done by Jay Milligan for the first time at the Houston Astrodome in the 60s. Cubby Broccoli called Jay and asked him to do the stunt for James Bond.
Modern Marvels is covering "Bond's Gadgets" Google "modern marvels bond gadgets car stunt" and check the first link. Search for 00:23:23
@crash09er Yeah they mashed together a bunch of stunts and movies/shows, but the stunts didn't always stay with the movies. The spiral jump was the final stunt in the Dukes of Hazzard-ish movie.
Did the Chitwoods perform this jump...The Chitwoods performed the car stunts in Live and Let Die...They had a traveling car stunt show back in the 60's and 70's...Got to see them perform at our fairgrounds back in the 70's....Does anyone know what happened to the Chitwood car shows....
My parents worked for the bossle helldrivers, and i came over in the holydays,
and worked in the show too as a help for the stuntmen. i learned t odrive cars there
at age 11, and they took me with them when they drove on twho wheels witch was a major part of the show. i also learned to ride a bike, and ride on it backwards or standing up on the seat with no hands on the handlebars. See part2
I also prepared the cars that were crashed in a show (about 10 each day)
by removing the windows, and tie the doors with the safetybelts, and ram 2 holes in the floor behind the driver for a chain that was connected to a own safetybelt
for the stuntmen. i also removed the radio's and ornaments and new spare tires witch i sold in the winter. Now back to the one who did this stunt.
The man who did this stunt was joe williams, also known as joe bossle.
Also his nephew johny bossle did some stunts, but i don't know witch one.
I do know that joe williams also drove on two wheels in the ford mustang, and that they got well payed for their stunts, because they came to germany with a brandnew fiftwheeler with a new chvy pick up, and jonhy with a new mercedes sl.
joe died just a few years ago and johny stil travels with his stuntshow with his brother
one of the best stunt i've seen, i hear people talking about how CGI takes away the thrill even if it looks real, well CGI can always make things a thousand times more spectacular but when you KNOW its real, it just makes things a lot more exciting and impressive. but i have no problem with CGI, when its done right, only what you're doing with it and the creativity counts, like T-1000 in terminator 2, even though we know its fake, the stuff it does is so creative, it makes us go "WOW'
its james bond its seriuos sexy and has to be able to be watched by children and adults thus the stupid sound being in there dont worry i hate it to but thats just how they was made in them days :P roger moore had loads of good sayings in the james bond movies i personally like his i can thin of a 4 letter word and your full of it hence shit :P good old classics some new movies dont have
umm... i can't really tell how awesome the stunt was.. because.. well... WHO THE FUCK DECIDED ON THAT SOUND? I'VE SEEN MORE SERIOUS SOUND EFFECTS ON CARTOON NETWORK!

@rafaelhonoratos3 oh come on, that sound effect for that car-sequence was AWESOME - not to mention well-placed. i mean WHAT ELSE are you gonna put on that car-sequence?! :-P
@zygiux67 haha yh i know right it looks ridiculous. i watched a full programme about james bond real stunts about a year ago and this was on it hahahaha. bizarrely, also on imdb: 'The spiral "Javelin Jump" was performed by a modified 1974 Hornet X: special suspension, a six cylinder engine (for reduced weight), centered steering wheel, and a special fuel system to stop the car stalling when turning over.'
@fredfredburgerno1 it ain't the special effects we're worried about unfortunately, it's the SOUND effects. jesus christ, it's almost like they were on drugs making this movi- oh, when was it made? oh ok, it actually makes sense now.
