wow that must b aleast a 3x overhead swell that dudes ridin on ...... i think ther anothr wave more furthr out calld zorbas reef wot breaks bit biggr than the CRIBBAR........i luv cornwall!!!
Zorba is unreal - makes the Cribbar look small - only works on the hugest days and is 1.5 ism miles out of south fistral - i've only seen it work once - as soon as it breaks again i will film it - roll on hurricane season 08 :O)
it needs a nice gentle offshore wind to make a classic Cribbar day - not howling onshore gales we are going to get this weekend - although it could be 3x overhead onshore mess :o)
ok lets straighten a few things out - the two guys in the clip (i chatted with them in the car park afterwards)had never tried the cribbar before, yes their boards were too short but the main reason i think they didn't catch anything was to do with the onshore wind lumping up the face and the tide being too high - the video was shot september '06
Youn need balls of steel just to paddle around in that size, as well as fitness. Surf half that size is very intimidating to paddle out into. I"ll stick to my 3-5 foot max. Getting held down for what seems an age in largish surf is very humbling.
if you dont know what you're doing you shouldnt really be there - no offence but leave it to the pros and develop your skills a little slower - its a bit dangerous else - when i first started surfing i was caught out by a couple of 6-8ft waves and nearly drowned - its not safe if u dont know what ur doing - but on the other hand... full marks for effort!
the cribbar is amazing, anyone seen it barreling? i havnt but have heard it is amazing. i was there early this year taking pictures for Pro Duncan Scott. amazing.
This is pretty big for Cribbar! You can see the argument for using JetSkis to tow in - its clearly hard to paddle into this wave.

holy crap
what month was that?
They would have had more luck with bigger boards... nothing wrong with their guts tho!
PS why does all this anti-english/anti-cornish bollocks erupt so often. I go to cornwall for the waves, not to conquer, and nobody owns the ocean.
tommyboomboom 4 years ago
They need guns. You won't paddle on to a face that big with shorts. They are obviously quite experienced as they have the balls to go out.

Hahahaha. I thought I got nailed today. I thought wrong. You boys got guts ;-)
