Now this is really interesting. Chico Buarque made this lyric and Edu Lobo the music. There is this akward thing, because the name of this song originally was "Agnes" but Chico couldnt finish it like that, so he replaced the name Agnes. Beatriz the actress was born. Its a really beautiful song.

Do you know the inspiration for writing this song became from the poem "O Grande Circo Místico", by Jorge de Lima, but the girl was called "Agnes" and Chico Buarque tried to write the lyrics using Agnes and after he changed to Beatriz because sounded better.

I didn't know that. thanks. well with all due respect to the Agneses of the world, Beatriz is a much more poetic name and of course has associations with Dante's muse (which Chico recognizes in his poem) and Chico also plays on the similarity with "atriz" which is another whole layer that makes sense in context.

The lyrics of this song are also beautifull, another masterpiece by Chico Buarque. The narrator keeps wondering about the life of an actress he doesn't know, making allusions to Dante's Beatrice, from the Divine Comedy, and drawing a metaphor of typical life of any actress. One of the subtleties is that the word chão (ground) is sang in the lowest tone, and the word céu (sky) on the highest. It's really worth checking!!!

great song. the best vocal version is sung by Milton. It's on a concept album called "O Grande Circo Mistico". GREAT album with many different artists doing all Edu/Chico songs. Still in print and available on Amazon. There's another version on Itunes with Edu and Milton singing but it isn't quite as good, in my mind.

thanks. nope not my arrangement (as noted in details) it's by a Brazilian classical guitarist named Marco Pereira. He has a really fine album of Brazilian waltzes. I wish i could come close to some of the stretches he's capable of. Great player.
