  • This is so 1980s BBC TV, with the clock, and the Pages from Google are actually probably Pages from Ceefax or something

  • Brilliant!

  • This Cracked me up pmsl Why didnt i think of it lol

  • nice :)

  • Hahah classic

  • You are a total genius , Eddie !

  • What have I got against James Murdoch? How long have you got? He talks about the BBC as if it's Orwell's Ministry of Truth, then claims profit is the only guarantor of editorial independence (never mind that it also leads you to the lowest common denominator pursued relentlessly by Sky and the Sun). He whines about the BBC distorting competition when it's abundantly clear that he'd happily destroy all Sky's rivals if he had the chance. Worse than his father, a leech on British culture.

  • The concept is hilarious. (It also makes one wonder what YouTube really closing down for the night might be like...

What have you against James Murdoch, BTW?

  • You can also put a Test pattern "monoscope" at end of vid. :D

  • This is so fucking hilarious. Older people will remember this fondly. The many many hours I've stared at temperatures from all over the world/train rides though wonderful Switzerland/ceefax news/random shit, while drunk in the middle of the night...

  • classic

  • You googled google noooo you broke the internet!

  • This reminds of when the late late late show would sign off. This could be the 21st. century version.

  • What a laugh! The Conservative Party manifesto set to this music would be nice.....LOL.

  • Genius.

  • Clever and hilarious 'sign-off'! Ha, ha, ha! While it *is* funny to me, I'm sure that Brits would get the joke references here more than I do! Bravo!

  • hahahahahahaha

    lmao big time

  • This probably would have been real if YouTube and Google were broadcasting on TV.

  • Brilliant, thank you! But surely you forgot: " ... and if you are switching off your personal computer - for safety's sake please don't forget - pull that plug out of the wall socket!"

And yes, as a late night BBC2 TV watcher I can confirm, we still get Ceefax (with free easy-listening music)!

  • Wonderful!

  • Brilliant! I loved the concept, the alternative to "Pages from Ceefax", and the witty response to Googling for, erm, Google.

But those sample searches - some people have really weird tastes. I mean, who in their right minds would want to view pictures of the Chancellor of the Exchequer in his birthday suit?

  • Um, I think they were probably comedy searches invented specially for this comedy clip?

  • Good to see the Stasi Appreciation Society has got hip to the kids and started a web-site!

Way to shake-off that dusty pre-89 vibe.

  • This is so funny.

But don't forget that the idea is based on real political plans!

  • I'm very interested to know about these plans, what are they? It wasn't my intention at all, but I would really like to know!

  • @Ueberwachungsdruck What are these plans? A couple of people have mentioned them and I don't know anything about them, but I'm very interested!

  • In germany there are conservative politicians with the idea to ban certain contents at daytime to protect young people.

  • @eddierobson78:

In Germany for example there is a real law that requires websites that do not have proper age verification systems and are hosting content that is 16+ or 18+ to only be accessible from 10pm to 6am.

  • Any reason why "Sephiroth - The JENOVA Project" is in Related Videos?

  • oh myyyy goodmess.....!!!!!

    now THAT is genius....

    funny...

    welldone :)

  • 1:01 that doesn't happen when I type google into google :(

  • I love it-crowd

  • hahahaha rofl

  • Genius!

  • haha

  • I love the "well...." he says at the very beginning, the music was the real deal too, brilliant

  • Lol oh this is fantastic :D And yes brings back memorys

  • Brilliant idea! You really have to be British and over 25, but it's so funny!

  • Nah, Aussies get it too! :)

  • Vntage closedown

  • This is so true.

  • Rather lovely.....bygone times

  • *rofl

    ausgezeichnet! ^^

  • A thing of great beauty...

  • Brilliant

  • Fantastic. Brilliantly done and made me feel warm and cosy. Thanks Eddie.

  • Its definatley a UK thing i feel really old now thanx.LOL

  • love it, reminds me of when I used to watch ceefax pages and aertel pages waiting for kids tv to start in the mornings

  • You should never type "google" into Google. It could break the Internet.

  • IT's a good one...

  • I get it, its like ceefax when basically tv shut down at night, teletex pages would play with terrible music, maybe its more a uk thing

  • In America they would have played the national anthem.

  • On BBC1 over here they used to do that. Quite a few people have said I should've put it on this.

  • HEWLZ YES!!! Nows I cun fix me up summin real nice wit dat polecat receipes payge thingie. Gawd I lovz dis innnernet stuf!

  • Love the InHarmsWay...

  • For maximum authenticity you should be using Chrome.

  • 00:09 "Thank you for watching without which will have very different we heard bill clinton"WTF? LOL CC fails...

  • mmm Spam.

  • i dont get it

  • riveting!

  • The hell?

  • @minnesotabasketball Once upon a time, before the invention of the 24 hour news cycle, broadcast TV stations would go off the air at night.

Originally, they would actually stop transmitting around midnight or so, but later they decided to play some pre-recorded schtick through the night, and continue with their regular programming the next morning.

  • reminds me of Life with Playstation

  • hey great video am what is name of this song is so relaxing !!

  • LOL!!

  • fabulous

  • This is what *should* happen.

  • great!

  • More people would sleep if this happend...

  • LOL !

    Nice idea xD

  • HAAAAAAHAHAHAHA

  • LOL!!!

  • Win

  • Hahaha, BBC ideas...

  • Nice

  • Love the James Murdoch gags in the Google pages, well done!

  • ahahahaha

  • NICE MUZIEK

  • haha if only!

  • could someone explain this to me...with google chrome, youtube looks the same, but on internet explorer, the whole site has a radically different layout. im confused.

  • its the same but for some reason chrome does work better but only on youtube cause ie is screwed up

  • You have to be English, and a certain age to appreciate this...

  • love

  • brilliant stuff - spot on!

  • It's all well and good nowadays. Back in the AOL era, all you got at the end of the day was ASCII art of some girl and a clown playing noughts and crosses.

  • Pretty nice idea, but the short would have been better if the screenshots of the pages didn't have the Firefox frame around them. Also, 16:9 would have been nice. But ah well. :P

  • @tehbertl

That's nice constructive feedback! Good to see for a change.

I agree, but I also love this concept, maybe we can see a version 2?

  • I thought of both these things, but I left the frame in because that's more akin to how Pages From Ceefax looks - you get the entire picture you'd see on Teletext. And I tried the clock in 16:9 but 4:3 had more of an "old telly" feel, which is what I was going for. But thanks for the feedback.

  • 18.562 views from shortnews :p

  • Fail Videos!!! @ My Channel!!

  • Awesome, well done on this :)

  • what technical help could one possibly need for this video?

  • I was using very basic video software, and needed help to combine the clock (which was a Flash program) with the YouTube logo.

  • I liked the use of AVG most

  • lawl ceefax

  • truely wonderful - what's the music?

  • This is just wonderful! Haha so creative!! VERY WELL DONE!!

  • Wonderful stuff!

  • LOL, awesome!

  • A-W-E-S-O-M-E! Can you believe that german politicians actually want to realize this? They've grown up with television and fail to grasp the nature of the internet. This is far more than just a joke, I'm afraid :/

  • The only people who watch Ceefax are elderly people with alzheimers and people who are so high it all makes sense.

  • Still dont understand the meaning

  • Until probably 1990, the TV stations in the UK were not 24 hour. Certainly in the middle of the night they would shut down, but also sometimes in the afternoon. Instead of showing nothing, they played music like this and pages from their 'teletext' information service called, on BBC, 'Ceefax' and on ITV 'Oracle'. So this is a joke comparing the old days of entertainment and information, with the way things are today! Hope it makes sense now.

  • Oh, it went way past 1990. I was at university in the late 1990s and it was still common practice. In fact, there are now lots of stations which aren't 24-hour - BBC3, BBC4 and the kids' stations only run half the day - and BBC2 still does close down sometimes, and I believe they still use Pages From Ceefax to fill the gap!

  • The wet dream of german politics. Of course "The German Internetz" will only broadcast from 4 pm to 1 am. Over 18 content only past midnight.

  • I do not understand the meaning of this Video.

  • google "pages from ceefax"

  • @merseymal google is not a verb

  • @fivepointsix no google is a number :D

  • no googol is a number u dumb ass dont go correcting other people if u yourself are wrong

  • o ok a apologize for misinforming people

  • The fantastic thing about the language is its ability to evolve. See also "sellotape" and "hoover".

  • Brilliant!

  • Clever. Well done.

  • should have used google chrome.

  • Class! Really, the best thing I've seen on here in ages - Brilliant.

  • BRILLIANT.

  • best youtube video ever :D

  • kinda awesome

  • fantastic - the first comment argument has begun :)

  • Thanks for all the comments! Incidentally, one of the Google pages is genuine (as well as the "end credits" ones, which were just whatever came up when I typed in the credits). A few people have LOL'd at the real one already.

  • where's the national..err..google anthem though?

"God Save Sergey" or something like that

  • Wonderful

  • Thanks for the best laugh of the day..brilliant.

"Lady Gaga buys pasty from Greggs"..Haha.

"The Stasi Appreciation Society" .. lol.

  • This is genius!

  • Very clever! Loved the credits.

  • I'd like to a version with the national anthem, the screen shrinking to a dot and the long single tone.

  • Ace!

  • Hahaha, very clever.

  • Very nice, but where's the national anthem?
