Karate is not about brute force or about fighting. It runs much deeper than all that. It's a lifestyle, a philosophy, to train your body and have discipline and balance in your life. Mr. Miyagi knew all that.
Mr. Miyagi was a once in a lifetime teacher. Any one who saw the movie and realized what a treasure it truly is couldn't help buy be changed for the better, for life.
Many critics said horrible things about this film but I totally disagree. Karate Kid 3 was as great as previous two films. Ralph macchio and Pat Morita were brilliant as always. Plus it was interesting to see Robyn Lively here. Her film "Teen Witch" was released the same year. She is my favorite Macchio's screen girlfriend in this franchise. Thomas Ian Griffith, Martin Kove and Sean Kanan were great bad guys but I still expected better final scene - not just one punch from LaRusso
I love the bit where the camera focuses on the Bonzai tree whilst Daniel and Mr. Miyagi are performing kata in the background. This is a great symbolic shoot as it relates back to when My M said to Daniel that the tree would grow back due to its strong roots, this scene shows that like the tree, Daniel will also continue to grow and get better as his roots are also strong.
The ultimate LAME line to ruin a good situation: "Yes he will, you won't." Danny INSTANTLY gave up the high ground to his enemies.
He SHOULD'VE said to Silver: "Hey Silver I guess you like having white fluid all over you, homo. Why don't you be a good boy and give some to your pencil-dick bitches Mike Barnyard and John Greasebag. See you at the tournament, DOUCHEBAGS!"
After Danny leaves, Mr. Miyagi turns to all 3, smiles, then bows before leaving in heavy laughter, yelling "Banzai, bitches!"
Mike is doing some muy tai shit.. We all like to believe that daniel could beat mike in "real life" but im not so sure if he could beat him, using kata.. well atleast with the amount of experience he has.
Bruce Lee did a mix of both these sorts of training and found one complements the other, in the past when martals arts were for brutal self-defence and combat it was the case, but then I'm no exbert.
@fishhand360@einstein4life You are correct, they are practicing kata. This is actually a real kata called "seiyunchin", & not something just made up for the movie. Although, its not the entire kata just pieces of it edited for the scene.
The fight choreographer Pat Johnson is a black belt in Tang Soo Do under Chuck Norris. This kata isn't taught in TSD. However, Morita's stunt double was Fumio Demura, a black belt in shito-ryu karate. Shito-ryu does have that kata & he taught it to them.
I do karate now and I hope to fight like mike barnes(Cobra Kai)his style is like mine Bunkai a type of karate wich is straightforward it's traditional like kenpo but the katas are very different
training hard bill conti musical score is how you find the whole thing on youtube, a KK training clip is the video that plays, it's made by a romanian composer named george, believe the piece is pan flute silent
you know im not saying anything bad about the movie or the characters but daniel is the ''karate kid'' so why is it in movies 1 2 and 3 he gets beat up? like in all the movies theres somebody who kicks his ass at least once and i know he wins in the end but it's kinda weird..
I have never received any martial art training but I still find a weird kind of peace and balance in just letting everything go and surrender my body to my mind... ill often play some asian music in the background when doing this... Weirdly the moves I do often come out like forms martial arts... I have also found myself able to parry moves done by my cousin (who have trained martial arts for the majority of his life)... its a bit weird to be honest
Really does bring back memories. Kind of depressing though, seeing as how this film and it's 'lessons' are now considered corny and outdated. The next generation gets Will Smith's smug little midget with his 'tough yet cute' demeanor and no respect for anything.
Fantastic score, much better than a sloppily arranged soundtrack of hip b.s.
New karate kid I heard called The Fresh karate kid of Belle Aire I think this name very appropriate for these people stand over little children like former world champion monique sciberras these people are very sly and guttless to hack little girls sites that are real life karate kid. I built my girls mind set and ways around the origional karate kid Ralph Macchio for he i felt had a heart of gold and will always honour him I call on the leaders of all arts to boycott this standover company
This was a great scene. How Mike Barnes and Kreese used karate in an angry, aggressive, hostile way and Mr Miyagi and Daniel used it in a positive, serene, life-affirming way. It really hints at how the same concept applies to many different things in life, it's all in how you choose to approach it.
I like the way that Zague explains it, its the 3rd step fo any "hero" story, 1rst is when they find the skill they have to overcome his first challenge that makes him who they are, the second is the real test of his skills against a stronger opponent and beat him by discovering a part of them that they didnt know they had and the 3rd n last is the crisis, it could be any form of corruption taking down the hero and how he returns to his essence and fights that corruption
So many great life lessons in part one. I love the squish-like-grape lesson myself. I use that everyday growing up. Its good to hear I'm not the only one who understood how deep the philosophies in "The Karate Kid" were. :)
@Wardfolio Believe me when I tell you that there are a lot of us out there who comprehend and cherish the lessons and philosophies of Sensei Miyagi and what Daniel learns as well. Truly a movie that should be cherished and placed proudly in the shelves of the "School of Life".
why cant people just enjoy the film and the story?? Its an iconic film series that i grew up with and loved and people like xrayrat30 should get a life, leave their mom's basement hug their make believe girlfriend goodbye and fuck off!!
This movie represents Daniel San going back to the essence of karate after being corrupted and hurt by the other master's training, he was hurt after miyagi refused to train him even if it was for self profit. BY doing the kata he gets the essence back and he learns Rule # 1 "karate only for self defense"
Karate Kid III comfortably falls into the "so bad it's good" category. Right from the start, does anyone think that it's so weak that Miyagi is building a house in Okinawa for Yuki and that's how they wrote her character out of the script? Didn't this woman wait her entire life for Miyagi to return? And now they have Sato's blessing. What's stopping them from living out their twilight years in California? Also, are we supposed to believe that Daniel is so stupid that he wouldn't realize....
...realize that digging up Miyagi's sacred tree would be unacceptable to the old guy? Also, Daniel and Jessica are the victims of serious crimes including terroristic threats, felony assault and battery, property destruction, theft, breaking and entry, and kidnap (not allowing them to leave the Devil's Cauldren constitutes kidnap in legal terms). Then, Miyagi trains Daniel at the end when the circumstances of his reasons for not fighting have not changed at all. KK3...So bad....it's good.
oh, my point about the long list of criminal charges against Mike and the lot...is that Daniel explains to Jessica that when he went to the police station, the officers just laughed at him. lol...I mean, WTF?
the crane kick is undefendable however daniel san jumped to early when he did it against satos nephew also the fight in the 3rd was is also more for defense the 2nd 1 he uses the drum technique to stay alive Im the karate kids biggest fan xxxxxxx
soy fanatico del kung fu pero estas pelicula de karate kid es la mejorde este genero m gustan mas la de karate kid I y la III esas son las mas chevres...!!!!!
I always wonder why daniel san don`t uses the drum technike agains mike??, i`ts suppost than miyagi said it was a unstopable technike only for exteme situations, or maibe the crane technike also miyagi said than if its well done there is no defense agains it!
The only thing the kata did was help him focus, because he was the better fighter (much faster, for a start. Barnes was just well conditioned and strong, which isn't as important in a karate tournament.), but just too scared to actually put the effort in.
Once he had calmed himself down, he utilised superior techniques, defence and speed to win.
You can learn control, movement, and mind through techniques, stances, and sparring. I see what you're saying, but ONLY practicing a kata for a tournament isn't very good and that's all Daniel did. You have to train all other aspects of karate as well. Mike Barnes fought with his fists because he was without focus. Daniel took advantage of it. Realistically, only practicing a kata for a tournament is a bad idea.
In response to the kid who stated, "Practicing a kata isn't the best way to train for a tournament." and to those who believe that, I must correct you. I've studied martial arts since i was 7 ; Kenpo, Open-Hand Kung Fu & Jeet Kun Do. A Kata is used on a deeper level in traning ; It stimulates mental focus and clarity as well as calmness of emotions. It increases concentration. It also brings the spirit of the fighter into the equation.
In addition ; I speak from experience. I've won many tournaments in my years by using a combo of kata, hard physical traning and sparing. The kata aspect is what calms my soul and puts everything in perspective for me. If you know anything about fighting, you know if you lose control of your emotions, you lose the fight 10/10 times. Most of you would not last 10 seconds against a fighter who utilizes all 3 aspects in combat. Body, Mind & Soul. Some of you have much to learn.
Ths film is great! it applies to life, the kata is symbolic. Sometimes you dont have be the best to succeed you just have to be wise enough to have inner confidence Love this film!!!!!!
He died of natural causes on November 24, 2005 at his home in Las Vegas, Nevada at the age of 73. He was cremated and laid to rest in Palm Green Valley Mortuary and Cemetery. During his funeral procession, his Karate Kid co-star, Ralph Macchio said, "Forever, my Sensei."
Great montage. Too bad that even after all this awesome training they decided to have Daniel act like a total wimp against Mike: "Mr. Miyagi, it's over...I'm afraid!!!!".
Now this is a training sequence. The music is phenomenol, the backgrounds where Daniel and Miyagi are are fantastic and the shot of the plant is somewhat symbolic. Great film.
This training scene and the training scene in Karate Kid 1 [following the whole drunk Miyagi bit] are two of the best Karate Kid training sequences ever.
So devastatingly sad that they made sequels to the Karate Kid, which was one of the best 10 films of the 80's. All of the sequels were terrible and degrading to the original film.
I have a question. Miyagi ends up training Daniel for the tournament, but right after Daniel gets forced to enter, Miyagi says he can't train him, but he doesn't give a reason. Do any of you have any idea why Miyagi said he couldn't train him.
It goes back to the first one with martial art morals. Miyagi doesn't believe that karate should be used to win trophies, money or fame. But only for survival, respect and honor. Daniel at first just wanted to fight to defend his title but he didnt have nothing to prove in Miyagi's eyes.
Actually, it's time for Daniel to grow on his own, during the film Miyagi says he's like the Bonzai tree, but Miyagi leaves the tree alone to grow on its own, that's what he wanted to do with Daniel. He wanted him to make his own mind, but he was very attached to his master and always wanted him to tell what to do. Like a mother who let his son live his life, it was time to let go. That's why this is the last film with Daniel, he became a man and it's not karate kid anymore.
If you have a download system in the search box just type in japanese pan flute karate kid and it should show up. the only diffrence is that its from the first karate kid not the third one. This version in the third one is an extended version and has a little more dramatization
Where was my Mr Miyagi when I needed him!

This clip shows how beautiful we can view the difference between Miyagi's & Terry Silver's training!
They are pretty much in amount to take everything out from the quality.Especially from Miyagi.
Nice song! But,can you also tell me the name the song?
Thanks.

Do any of you have any idea why Miyagi said he couldn't train him.
gymman1031 4 years ago

Hi,
What do your three comments refer to?
Is it a list of search tags? If so search where?
Any light shed would be great thank you
This part of the score of amazing and I've been a fan of the KK films forever!
naineshdavda 3 years ago
If you have a download system in the search box just type in japanese pan flute karate kid and it should show up. the only diffrence is that its from the first karate kid not the third one. This version in the third one is an extended version and has a little more dramatization

Well, Yes and No. It's edited from the first Karate Kid version. I believe they extended it.
