The point is there are many professional fisherman, mostly in Europe that classify the carp as a game fish. In fact carp already ARE the number one sport-fish in Europe and it is a huge industry over there. They fish for carp simply for their fight and no other reason - and THAT is a game fish.

@CaneFu For better or worse, many if not most UK and mainland Europe's large Carp have been caught over and over again and therefore become "known and named" fish. For my own fishing pleasure, I dont find any enjoyment in chasing after the same "named" fish. If you are lucky, and I hope you are, not to have this level of angling pressure on the waters you fish then treasure it. Sadly here its the way it is.

Which describes a carp fishing very accurately. The U.S. government imported carp to the U.S. in the late 1800s for exactly those 2 reasons as the native game fish here were over-fished almost to extinction by U.S. anglers. Carp are a good food source and put up a good fight - and that was the government's motivation is stocking our lakes and rivers with them.

Agree with the comments about the kid but come on lads, the fish wasn't harmed and looked like it was in capable hands. The distance from the water looked as though that was the nearest safest place and the fish looked wet through out so it's welfare was thought of. the main reason for these monster carp is due to selective breeding and excessive groundbaiting with high protien "boilies" the fish are getting bigger and bigger because they no longer need to forage for natural food.
Before the invention of the boilie and the use of dogfood/catfood catching carp of this size was an impossibility because they didn´t exist.
excessive groundbaiting also pollutes the water and is unhealthy for other fish unlike unlike the carp are unable to survive in sewage....
