No one cares about my rating. I'm so critical because I'm a coach. For instance, topspin serves should be disguised because they can be easily attacked. Show us a reversed pendulum serve with sidespin combined with UNDERSPIN. Then I'll respect your serves. Right now, you look like a rookie!
@coocoonutt Well, having seen how well you analyse the game, I suspect you will be inundated with pupils wanting to learn from you. I'm a coach too by the way. I'm going away for a few days with the regional squad so won't be around for a bit, but will gladly get back to you after Thursday (unless I can get online whilst away?).
The reverse BACKSPIN is easier than the reverse topspin for me, but at the moment, I can only manage to serve properly 2 or 3 times before my arm starts to hurt.
@jamfreddie Ha, ha...I'm laughing so hard that my stomach hurts. Seriously, if you know the right grip, why don't you demonstrate it? Hint...The index is pointed upward, the three fingers are curled under the handle to allow more rotation. Don't forget to lower your body by bending. I know it's not easy for an overweight player, but give it a try. If you want to get fancy, try the reversed tomahawk.
@coocoonutt There is no correct grip, just different grips which have different strengths and weaknesses. I am merely demonstrating my grip. A grip which has helped me to develop some very effective serves within my level of play. At the end of the day that is what we all want to have isn't it? My grip allows me to accelerate the bat very quickly over a short distance and achieve quite a bit of deception, but you are welcome to put your video up to show how to do it 'properly'.
@jamfreddie There are correct grips used by high level players and in particular the pros. Get the DVD "Service Secrets Revealed" and get with the program!
@coocoonutt I wondered when you would get on to pro's and DVD's etc. I don't want to be a pro, and neither do most people who watch my vids. I have serves which are very good within my level of play. They are very effective and link well with my game. Most people just want to improve their game and they do not need to copy pro players to do that. Copying a pro's style and then not putting in the 6 hours a day of practice will only give you a poor imitation of a pro's serve.
@jamfreddie Your serves are efficient but you can improve the spin by lowering your body by bending the knees on the tomahawk serve and using a "violent" motion. SERVE VIOLENTLY!!!
@coocoonutt My serves are as good as I want them to be. If I was still playing competitively then there would be other areas of my game I would work on first. The whole point is that they don't look very good, but they work and if you can't see why they work, then you are not really good enough to be on here giving me tips, are you!!
@coocoonutt Difficult to say as I am not in the US and haven't played any tournaments or in our National League for a couple of years. Last time I really played competitively, I was ranked around 140th on the English ranking list and was playing at a similar standard when I injured my arm last summer. My serves (and the rest of my game) have been good enough to allow me to beat a player ranked 13 in England and many in the top 50, so they can't be all that bad, can they?
@jamfreddie Please, if you're going to demonstrate services and you're too lazy or out of shape to get low by bending your knees, at least say so in your demonstration. When you're standing upright, your serves are going to be too high over the net. I wouldn't recommend your "lazy" stance to anyone. Serve violently, don't just stroke the ball to get spin...get maximum spin with proper technique!
@coocoonutt I notice you make no mention of your rating. Come on, I've told you my level. Other than watching vids, tell us all why you feel you are such an expert and able to be so critical.
I can assure you, my serves (particularly my chop) are amongst the most spinny you are ever likely to receive and they have given problems to players inside the top 300 in the world. If they were so bouncy or lacked spin then I would have had my serve taken apart by these players, but it wasn't.
@ViolentFury1 You are comparing me to someone because we are both overweight and you wonder why I might get upset? I am not bragging about my level either, because I don't even play competitively any more.
i saw many owerweight people in table tennis, but you reminded me of Frank because of your stance. Somehow i remember him when i saw your stance and i didnt see your face so i really tought you are him. So its not "just because" youre both owerweight. and i didnt mean to hurt you.... i tought Frank is famous in USA ( i dont really know, cuz im not from USA) so i wrote it here. I tought many people will recognice him in you...
@Nuinu848 I think you should look again, this type of service is used quite widely in the pro game, particularly a backspin/kicker combination. Anyway, for that matter 99.999% of people who look at this will not be pro players, so why do they need pro serves - their opponents cannot read the double and treble bluffs anyway.
What kind of paddle do you have and how thick is it?
jk032994bama 4 days ago
@jk032994bama I have a Galaxy T-4 blade which is around 6mm thick with Stiga Calibra LT - Max on both sides (around 4mm each).

do the traditional tomahawk serve, otherwise it's a stupid arm movement which makes you look stupid
