Peter Van Dam and I recorded this off the TV set in the Mess Room of Radio Caroline's Ship, the 'Mi Amigo'.
We both knew it would win.
After the Victory we played the whole gig, 'Live' during Simon Barretts show. and, on my Mi Amigo Breakfast Show, I played the song four times in the hour. Twice in Dutch and the rest in English
This song warms my heart, and makes my eyes water as I remember a special night.
Nah I would not say that but Frisiian is in general more conservative it is not like Old English for an example Frisian have lost the th sounds that have existed in English back in the Anglo-Saxon days.:) But Frisian is closer to how Old English was.
it's been a while since my heart said ***, in the summer sun it went ***, tikketak all those hours, how long would it last, all those nights i've been waiting for you, the time has past. it's been a while since you said said i'm so happy, it's been a while since the churchbells rang ***, tiketak it would go on until you went away, all those nights i kept waiting for you, time has passed out. times getting on, before you know it you lost what you got from me but the hours i gave were timeless
I love this track from the Eurovision Contest 1975! It's a good track, original and it's in Dutch. Last decades the Eurovision Contest is f*cked up by English tracks, money and totally NOT original anymore. I'm glad to hear in 1975 people were at least original and not focussed on being fashionable and the money. Teach-Inn, well done!
I agree with you Beakerinnetje. Originality was the key. People did this for fun, not money. It was a great little song, I remember the 70s very well, when simple pleasures made people much happier than they are today. Ah well, guess we'll have to keep looking back to the past more and more!
This is one of those songs that no one could possible keep from being stuck in their head. I like the english version. Probably because that is how I first heard the song. In any case You honestly have to love the song. It's got such a beat and something about it just makes it superb. I definitely deserved to win then and is one of my favourite songs now. Always will be. Simply because of the catchy nature and brilliant music!
I actually prefer this performance to the one they did in the final (and not just because the Dutch version is a better song). The vocals seem a bit more lively and the lead singer actually does express herself a bit more than she did in the final.
It may be down to competing against Debbie and Albert West with the same song and having to do more than just stand there. I think the arrangement ultimately got them through - it's better than the angsty Debbie one and less annoying than Albert's.
I love this song, it is great in both languages but in different ways. It's really really good! =D
Btw, I think we stand no chance with Hind. It's a great song, and Hind sings it well, but there has to be more feeling and passion in her singing. If you look at where ESC has stranded now it is useless. If Ireland has to send a singing turkey... =P A few years ago someone came up with the song "We are the winners of Eurovision"... I mean, come on! It's just no REAL contest anymore!
This is a real festival song, and it even sounds better in dutch thats the origine of the song . Have Fun You All :)Now we have (Hind) she is the winner of the dutch idols contest. and she is a verry pretty lady with a great body and a great song the change that holland will win again is now verry possible with this buautifull lady. so watch for her on the 24 may in belgrade lolz You will love her i'm sure :)we wish her all the best Signed a Fan
Aah the memories...I can well remember humming this on my way to school - in Co. Tipperary - and now I have a chance to sing it in even more fabulous Dutch lyrics! What a great song, what a great win!
Fantastic! Thank you for posting this - one of the very best Eurovision songs ever. I watched the live transmission (when Teach In won the contest) with my parents in 1975 and loved the song straight away. Gettie Kaspars looks and sounds great. Where is she now and what doing? Anyone know?
@degooser2000 And ABBA had more luck, the French president died, so the favourite song of France withdrew in 1974 just days before the contest. It sure would have been up there in the top 3 to stir things up.
But, in a way, ABBA's best luck was that they DIDN'T win the 1973 Swedish Melodifestivalen with Ring, Ring. They would never have competed in the same league as Anne-Marie David, Mocedades and Cliff Richard in 1973.
I like this version more than the english.
Isn't it funny that before the song won the contest, it was criticized, esp for its awful lyrics...and then all of a sudden everyone loved it! Let's be honest, there are many other songs the Dutch can be more proud of.

The Frisians have told me they speak the original English, and, you know, if you listen carefully, Englanders can understand most of what they say.
Replying is the problem.

You're right :-) I'm Dutch, are you German? I've been reading lots of German books lately... beautiful language :-)

quasimodopiccolomini : I have the funny
suspicious that the Dutch are not that glad to read or hear about their own language to be similar to german language !
I'm quite sure the Dutch don't want any of their things , not even a pin , to be similar
to anything german !
And to tell you the truth I can't say they're
100% wrong ......;-)

"In het Nederlands vind ik het liedje echt zo veel leuker klinken". Precies!
In Dutch this song is such a wistful love song, on top of which the rhythm - as many acknowledge - is superb.
