  • you didn't "come up with that in your head" that's already a song.

  • Very informative!

  • Thanks

  • ***Hey sphincter***

  • Everyone here is desperate to know how to make those awesome melodies you hear from the pros in the background, I can tell :D

    me too.

  • how do you get the piano roll to show the dark notes on the grid area?

  • @TheEliasMontalvo in the options of the piano roll go to help hit ghost channels

  • awesome!

  • Harmonic minor?

  • can I use that melodie for my beat ?

  • dident eminem use this in one of his songs some 1 did

  • @xxmethod82xx Everything's been done. Music melodies are limited as heck. The only thing left to do is use different words and slightly different beats. That's the way I see it.

  • wow.. awesome... wish it could be automated further.. so that I can focus most time on melodies..

  • loving ure tuts

  • I was watching this in class with headphones and at 0:54 I jumped and everyone looked at me

  • alot of times when the velocity wont work in fl studio you can right click on the left of the window where the velocities are and select channel volume and change it there. i know its an old ass post but it might help someone

  • incredibly helpful tut, much appreciated bro :)

  • Man I wish I had your brain :P I play guitar well but i suck with pianos and theory

  • chords to melody was a good tutorial

  • tthis is amazing what specific location is this called like on fl studio?

  • question: whats up with your piano roll? i noticed that the darker note lines are not in line with black notes on the keys. is that some sort of setting within FL? thanks.

  • "Hey YouTubEH!"

  • Hey....

Is there a soundfont which sounds more or less like Reaktor 5???

  • @zimmer429 I think there are tons of free vst who sounds like that one in the video, go for example to vst 4 free (put it into google) or just search into the net and you'll find it (maybe you can search for s"tring thing 2")... in fl studio there are many useful tool for the guitar, you could use a sampler too... (you know there is also Kore 2 that can be used...)

  • VST called Reaktor 5.

    Not free though.

  • hey man wat vst are you using for that guitar.... itsn nice very goo tut 2 !!

  • man this help me so much im just learning how to put songs together and this info is great

  • wut vst is that?

  • Thanks for showing us your method man, this is sort of like counterpoint, but mainly focuses on basic harmony lead.

  • Very helpful. Thanks!

  • Hey this is excellent this really helped thanks but one thing it was very hard to hear you

  • Sweet, thanks.

  • 0:54 made my hands sweat. NO joke! watch out its a volume spike!!!

  • is your mic in a different room? i turn it up, lol then brake my eardrum when u played a d sharp.. nice tut again tho.. 5 plus..

  • sh*t ! i can't hear you. and if i listen louder, i jump out of my chair. :x

need to find someone else. :(

  • I have reaktor 5 but I can't get it to work with FL Studio... any suggestions?

  • 0:05 *turns up volume*

0:55 *has heart attack, turns down volume*

    1:15 *turns up volume again*

    1:54 *learns to speak French*

I like the second method best. I'm not too big on combining melodies to form chords. What I usually do is come up with the chord progression first and center the melody around the tone caused by the chord progression. When I do make the melody first, I concentrate on the notes that give the most power(usually the first note in a continuous series or the highest...

  • ...note), and I make a chord that starts at each power note and consists of that note at a different octave.

  • ahahahaaha

  • french? more like german...

  • @NsaneNtheNbrane Haha :-D should have read this comment first (regarding to note velocity)

  • @NsaneNtheNbrane 1:54 *learns to speak French*

    snrk. perfect comment dude :)

  • Thank you for this great video good sir!

  • I subscribed, obviously.

  • you Rock! Although i use FL studio, i use it as a vst in cubase and it's basically the same. this really helps! thanks!

  • ace, what ever happened to the original music theory cheating video with the circle of fifths?

  • Nice Tutorial AcePincter!! Come see mine! :P

  • Dude, every video of yours Ive seen, you sound like Tyler Durden. I feel like Ive got brad pitt from fight club telling me how to use Fruity Loops. Idk maybe Im just crazy.

This is good stuff by the way. Very good for beginners.

  • @lethalevi7 lol

  • Dude, are you a genius? just wondering

u must be a very rich guy...

  • How can I get that guitar sound? is it a vsti?

  • Good question.

  • reaktor :)

  • Hey i THINK the hardest trick is Klaas style of melody synths and Christopher S too i wish u could make a tutorial if you know there tricks :)

  • you rock

  • hey where can I find the guitar you're using in this tutorial ?

  • It is a VST called Reaktor 5. It's not free though.

  • hey nice tutorial , thanks . But I was wondering how to get the guitar you're using in the video ? plz

  • Love your vids! Keep it up man, you keep it interesting!

  • I like how you make it entertaining! Most people have a boring voice and they sound all depressed but your it great for this stuff!

  • God bless this Man Computers the best instrument in the world.

    Information age.

  • you can rate 5 starts automaticaly to this dude`s tutorials before watching them. every one of them

  • i completely second that!

  • nice one thank u, teached me some new tricks!

  • where do you get your soundfonts at?

  • lol. a sphincter u crack me up

  • is this a pun?

  • This is arguably the most helpful tut I've come across on Youtube. Props for that. But I do have a question, how do you know what chords to use for the style of melody you want to make from them? I'm interested in making melodic trance and I've had some minor success, but still don't know what chord to use as a base for the melody. Any hints?

  • pads in uplifting trance serve mostly for the feel. in my humble opinion, when you write your melodies, you should have already determined the chord progression, from there is simply deciding how to transit from chord to chord, there are various techniques to do that. why don't you take a look at FLipside?

  • FLipside?

  • AH dude that taught me alot now!

  • Great tut man :P

    Make some more

  • What sound are you using for this?

  • It's from Reaktor 5. It's called "Guitar" as a "Steampipe" instrument.

  • ty m8,you vids help rookys like me

  • Hello, I create my music and I want them to be known. I hope that my music well interest you.

    Thank you.

  • thats a nice and handy little trick!

    thanks for sharing that!

  • Great tutorial. used you're melody (made some changes) in an rnb/soft hiphop type song i made(which i've never done before). i'll give you 20% of what it makes... what's 20% of nothing?

anyway nice tutorial. very helpful keep it up

  • ß~) Awesome! ß~) I was wondering if you could do a tutorial about the basics and advance ways of panning and inserting it into to your music, also inserting filters and stuff, that'd be really awesome if you could!

    God bless.

  • why is it that velocity does not always work. can you explain what it is exactly?

  • Velocity represents (typically) the strength of a note. However, NOT ALL instruments will be set up to handle velocity in the same way.

Velocity could, in some situations control a filter's Freq, or (in most guitars) control the Decay of the signal (so soft notes become palm-mutes)

Look for modifiers that say "vel" or "sensitivity" as they typically reflect how much change the velocity will bring to the sound. Values of 0 typically will dismiss velocity and make all notes equal.

  • awesome

  • dude u know what ur doing. was helpful to watch this. apprish!

  • hey how do we shift audio channels from left to right simultaneously?

  • love your tutorials..i hope you don't mind im using that melody u made in a song of mine?

  • Ok, but fly me out to come visit when you get famous!

  • @AcePincter That's really nice to say something like that, true musician.

  • AcePincter? haha that was a good tutorial.

  • Thats real nice thanx!

btw is that the Gittar preset from Reaktor 5 ?

If so how did you get it to sound so good, here with me the preset sounds like crap, lol

  • It's all about velocity! I have been playing guitar for about 13 years now, and it helps to understand the way the variance in strength in an arpeggio will create more interesting rhythmic structures. Hard to explain in text though. I did some really nice work with this "Guitar" patch (The one in Steampipe) in part 1 of "Murphy's Law Symphony".

  • Just checked your site that shit's amazing, I can clearly hear you've been doin this for some time. keep it up man

  • Will you marry me?

  • you are really bad to the bone!!!!

  • Thanks A.P.!

  • Thanks Ace If your cars breaks down in Compton late night at 4 in the morning, u have a friend to call.

  • Man!that was cool!Thanks for the tutorial.

  • good job, but i think it wud of bn bettif you showd the keys on the left, cause lik im a total begginer. lol

  • A thumbs up. Informative and invaluable.

  • as usual ace GREAT JOB!!

  • Video volume is too low this time. Or at least your voice. Content however great as always.

  • Thanks, D, I wasn't sure if it was just my speakers. Will correct for next time.

  • glad to hear your voice again, thank you for the tutorial, they are really helpful - u cant even imagine how:))

    respect to you, Ace!

  • OMG, 10 honors!

  • Only because the New Zealand Category has such little activity!

  • Great video Ace. Can you expand on the "melody from chords" bit? Maybe using 3 chords like C, F, and G? I know the principle is the same, but it would be fun to see what you come up with.

  • Thanks for the comment, Chardin! I just tried what you asked, but I don't think my result is video-worthy. Even with chords C,G,F or others, the principle remains exactly the same, although sometimes you'll find an urge to add a high C during the F chords. It's as easy as clicking on each note to see if it makes a good melody, then selecting and boosting.

  • good job

  • well, pretty useful video :) though, i am working on reason 4.0, but it is worth watching anyway for those, who dont know how to make chords. Its hard for me too, espacially with guitar sounds. :) Keep making tutorials, i like them :)

  • Great video, dude
