  • is that an electrical wire these ff are climbing under!?

  • Damn right get off that roof. Many of those old warehouses have multiple cocklofts and light timber roofs. This one looks like an exterior attack.

    Does LA deploy ladder pipes?

  • Doesn't look like there's any reason to be on that roof. It's starting to self vent, meaning the structure is starting to fail. Should've gone defensive sooner. Don't die for a building.

  • What's worse....Being inside where the fire is or being on the roof??????

Both have danger elements that are inherently attached to them but which one is THE WORSE?????

  • @25mfd Its hard to say, what I can say is that more often than not, you need guys up on the roof to ventilate so interior guys can fight fire on the inside. Without the truckies, interior attack would be so f-ing difficult because it will be hotter than hell and you wouldnt be able to see anything.

  • @azngeckolord No doubt what you say is true. Ventilation in conjunction with a coordinated fire attack is key.

All of those negatives you mentioned are either eliminated or reduced with truck company work.

Truck work mostly involves NO WATER so i'd have to give a slight danger advantage to the truckies.

  • Why are the so slow? Shouldn't they be hurrying!?

  • Comment removed

  • LMFAO, LAFD sucks mother fucking stupid donkey dick. Bunch of fat out-of-shape slobs.

  • @HelloHansSolo

wtf man, how can u say something like that?!!

  • @ross0the0man its true u buttmunch, LAFD is the slowest fattest bunch of slobs that there is in the fucking land. they just sit on their fat asses and stuff their face with burgers and pizza all day long. only thing they're trained on is nose picking.

  • Why did heditch the roof ladder before the second guy got off

  • Until you are the guy driving this truck, and pull up with all kinds of overhead obstructions, and need to get the stick up because your crew is going to the roof, you will find the best way to get it in place. I would have done the same, and If anyone knows anything about this truck company, saying they know what their doing is an understatement.

  • WHO THE FUCK RAISED DIRECTLY UNDER A POWER LINE!!? Live or shut off the fuckers still dangerous!

  • @monkeybone444 Actually that looks like a main cable or phone feeder

  • @Iggyracin Huh? I'm not familiar with the term. If it's a cable in the air, it's not friendly around here. Either way there are a butt load of other cables directly above that one aswell.

  • @monkeybone444 Its a Cable TV or Phone line. and although I dont agree with making your guys raise and lower it to get through its not an immediate threat. And yes I don't deny there are TONS of other lines above but in this situation it looks like all sides have lines above them but they appear to be a safe distance away and the lines are in no immediate danger from stress due to the fire. Anyway hope you had a good Thanksgiving.

  • Risk Management anyone? Risking what to save what? This isn't a question of aggressive or effective truck work it is question of effective risk vs benefit analysis.

  • US firefighters crack me up. what the f*** are they trying to achieve????????? haha

  • @19hamish78 conservation of life and property. Idk where you are from but I'm pretty sure that's a universal thing. And just FYI, LA City truckies are some of the most effective and aggressive roof ventilators in the world so be careful when you think that they are performing random tasks. I urge you to watch some of the other videos of LA city firefighters performing roof vents and see how fast and effective they are, there are plenty. Just don't regard them as careless!

  • i would have hated to pick up that cluster ball of hose that was by that engine tword the end of the clip

  • that is the worst place to set up a ladder. they have to crawl under the damn line!

  • Wow they left a man after the throw the ladder over the edge and just lift him up lol hate to be that guy

  • even though it is a phone line, we treat all lines as power lines. we have seen many incidents as a result of this

  • Jesus, look at all that line!

  • holy spaghetti 1:35!

  • @nvfdcadet16 Eff that mess.

  • thats not a power line you moron. you better read up on where each line is placed. power is at the top idiot! the line above the truck ladder is a phone line.

  • yeah.... am I seeing this right... are they going UNDER a fucking power line to get up the ladder...

  • They obviously cut the power, but still.. I agree a very dumb thing to do while climbing up a ladder... And in addition where the fuck are there SCBA Masks???? i guess there lovin that smoke.

  • @FireFighter3281 It wasn't a dumb thing to do. They have to get on top of that roof somehow. You weren't their therefore you don't know the situation.

  • @Kopihucky Taking that risk is a part of the job, therefore BIG DEAL.

  • @xFreakPyromaniacx Um no.. taking that risk is not part of it. Minimising risk is part of it. Pretty simple

  • @Kopihucky Really, so running inside and climbing on top of a burning building is minimizing the risk? They probably placed the later in that position because it may have been the best position. You weren’t there so you don't know the situation.

  • @xFreakPyromaniacx If you don't know what you are talking about dont comment on it. Likely you don't even know why ff go on a roof. You clearly don't know the diff between risk mitigation either.

  • @Kopihucky I know what I'm talking about. Don't get mad at me because I'm not the one leaving irrational comments. Also has it ever occurred to you that power lines have insulation and perhaps the power was cut off at the time?

  • good call though getting off the roof

  • hmmmmm someone needs to read or watch a video on truck positioning.

  • wow, thats a shit load of hose, they'd yell at us juniors to straighten it out, lol

    Good vid

  • They go to the roof alot of times when they shouldn't. Ya its not vent well when its blowing out thru the roof. Risk assessment. Some crappy LA warehouse. Heres a news flash: they actualy go out by them selves. Why put someone on that roof so the fire will go out at 12:00. Do nothing it goes out by itself 2 hrs later.

  • Why put your Ladder Under a power Line?

  • phone

  • first no reason to step foot on the roof it says that this building is a warehouse there is prob a big fire load inside , secound at 1.35 you have the biggest cluster fuck of hose ive ever seen have you ever heard of supply line ?

  • lucky them that was a cable tv feeder there

  • yeah..lets go vent the roof that is already vented...keep stupid stuff like that up and you will have a LODD on your hands....surround and drown next time guys...also look and see if you have a few master streams instead of that 1 1/2 hose that was a mess by the truck.

  • just because fires through the roof does not mean its vented!!!

  • that must aben a huge fire did u see all that smoke wow!!

  • heinous

  • what king of fire departement is that ??? i think they need to go back to school!!!!

    take car guys

  • lol look at that tangled up spaghetti mess at 1:35.

  • i know what the hell

  • I give truckies credit you would never catch my ass on a roof venting unless i had to, ill take being a nozzle any day.

  • 1:28 anybody hungry we got lots of spaghetti

  • wwas that a power line your guys were just grabn and walkn under

  • that isn't high voltage

  • SON OF A BITCH GET THE FUCK OF MY PROFILE!!!

(Its Therman for whoever at the firehouse reads this)

  • Looks like a phone line wire. Not high voltage. We have had this video at every IST that subjects Roof operations. This fire got out of control fast and these guys did the best they could in a tight space!

  • -sigh- i really need to remember to log of when im doine using youtube at the firehouse >=(

bastards need to stop using my account...

  • LOL! I wonder why LAFD thinks their sh*t doesn't stink...? That is about as unprofessional a fire scene as I've ever seen. WTF was the Truck co doing? Not one of the truckies wearing a mask, not to mention the engine ops with spaghetti hose lines everywhere!

  • IDLH that's why they are not masked up hankgs. It does not seem to me like the smoke is posing an immediate threat to the guys on the roof

  • They are also getting off the roof at that time

  • It is so funny to me when some guy gets on here and criticizes a fire video that was not even present! Where do you work? have you ever been to a fire like this one? These guys get these pretty often, but this fire got out of control fast and they got off the roof! No one died or got hurt, so they did their job just fine. Arm chair quarterbacks are so funny to me. I do not even work for LAFD and i think it is lame to talk shit when you have not the slightest idea what u are talking about.

  • idk i understand your circumstances but thw hose is unexcusable that was pretty bad atleast have your lines organized but everything else was well done .....so what they drooped that ladder shit happenes no body got hurt that all that matters

  • I know for a fact you're department would have killed 3 or 4 guys if you were at this fire. I have seen hick department on these and they stick 100 hoses in windows and do not even do truck operations. They wait for the fire to vent itself out the roof and put a snorkel up and surround and drown, huh? Then all high five each other, go back to the station and get called back for a re-kindle 8 hours later. LAFD is the shit and they do a good job! LA County is better, but that is hear nor there!

  • i agree all the way up to that county is better business.

  • haha, you are a very angry person.

  • LMFAO what happen here? world war 3 ??? FDNY, LA City, LA county and United Kingdom all in a fight, lol

  • none of that ever happen, stop acting like a tuff guy. We all know u are a fat little poser. You do not have to lie to make friends and be "cool" so fuck you!

We have USAR teams, and would not call outside help in for that incident. nice try liar. you were not in new york, and you are not a firefighter, so stop trying to look cool. You need to fight fire to be the best in the world.

  • LA County gets fire, LA City gets fire, FDNY gets fire, Dallas? fire. UK? no they do not get any fire. You have gay as sirens and lame ass trucks. You do not work there so this should not offend u

  • no where, where you going no where!

  • sd25pn? who the fuck is sd25pn? dude this guy is stalking me! scary shit this internet lmfao! this guy is a poser wana be firefighter, he said he worked for charleston city f.d. and was at the fatal fire that claimed 9 lives. My cousins work there and said he never was on the job, or at any fucking fire. we called him out on it, and now he has a similar name to me, the same account lay out on my main page, and writes to me non stop! lmfao i have never been stalked before! kinda flattering lol

  • someones low pressure alarm was going off there.

  • My favorite part of this video was watching all this guys post comments like if they could have done a better job. When in fact they cant even turn a oven fire in their houses. Run away momma!

  • LMFAO!!!! true that posers bro they are all posers

  • it takes a poser to know a poser. go fuck yourself sd25 oh yea, the 25 is your iq,,,

  • lmfao off this guy is stocking me!! he is a reserve vollie or something in south carolina, lol. when you fight a real fire write me back! lol

  • im just getting started

  • i know you are you are a scary stalker guy!!!! how many lies do u tell? does it make you feel better to lie about being a firefighter?

  • dude u said you were a solider? you said you were in the fire department your whole life! you living in a big fat lie! you said you were a druggie and alcoholic? that makes sense! we caught you in a lie once again lmfao u are a drugged up fat ass, u were not even in the service were u? let me guess you were a navy seal, right? or no a Army Ranger? or secret service.

  • where do u work?

  • you are not a truckie you are a poser. keep having inservice pal every suday night at.....damn vollies

  • lafd sees this kina fire everyday. your dept sees it, what every 100 years? cali fire depts fight fire by cutting holes.

  • I do admire a lot of your roof and aerial ops tho. Im a truckie too.

Just stay safe in the future

  • The other thing about the roof ladder is that I would never jeopardize my brothers safety for a roof ladder if we need to get off a roof quick I'm sure as hell not gonna risk dropping that ladder on my brother who im there to protect. But sorry for upsetting you LACITY68. the east coast is a lot different i guess

  • are you kiddin me eltedo804 from cabin john park volunteer f.d.? that doesn't even sound real. YouTubed your F.D., wow what experience. do you even have a high rise? hold your sarcastic comments and take a look at where your coming from.

  • This is pure quality ladder placement... right under a powerline close enough for the crew to have to duck under it and get stuck on it. Quality

  • size up was not shown on this video. This was the only spot for the a/o. The powerline is a low voltage phone or cable line, Don't be an l.a.county pussy. we did what we needed to do to get the job done. I can understand you not taking risks when your not getting paid to have fun volunteer boy. Same goes for you conFAGman...

  • If they put half that number of firefighters on the roof into the structure with hoselines they would have put the bloody thing out before the roof collapsed

  • that fire was rockin

  • Surely these guys are profesionals! throwing ladders, handling lines, getting caught, they are some kind of a toy fire service! and yes it seems LAFD do cuck, especailly if you watch this video

  • 255 Fallen Firefighters since 1886.Don't tell me this Fire Department sucks buddy!

You guys watch a video that is 2 minutes long and thats your opinion.About 5 months ago Brent Lovrien lost his life.He saved his fellow Firefighter and a 12 year old girl before dying.I doubt that sucks.

  • Thats stating the obvious, i have upmost respect for any fallen firefighter, but my comment relates to this vid...and its awful

  • salemfire24, just shut the fuck up because u dont know what the fuck ur talking about

  • the LAFD does not suck. salemfire24 were you there? i just came out of the lafd tower and i can tell you its not f***** up. and to say the lafd doesnt go to fires is just ignorant since i have been on we have had numerous major emergency fires. one thing thing you obviously didnt learn in your academy (that is if you are even a firefighter) is that we are all a brotherhood. im only a boot and i at least know that. dont talk s*** about something you know nothing about.

  • 1:33,looks like a lot of fun to put away lol.

  • these guys suck, your not suppose to put ladders under power lines but lafd would not know those guys could not put out a fire if they stood around and pissed on it. thats what good the academy is not good at all. they come in and they think they know everything and they never been to any fires. thats what fucked up the fire department is the academy.

  • My favorite part is where the second firefighter from the top takes the roof ladder/escape route away from the firefighter on the roof. What's more important? A $500 ladder or your partners life. Thankfully the FF was able to make the leap of faith over the parapet onto the aerial.

  • you forgot about how he throws the roof ladder down and it hits another ladder below with a man on it

  • does any fire ever go perfect volunteer boy? let me answer that for you since smokey log cabin johnny rescue on the weekends F.D. lacks structure experience...NO. pretty easy to arm-chair quarterback a video. once again, take a look at where your coming from before you critique.

  • I agree that no fire goes perfectly, but I admit, I didnt know the circumstances behind the ladder placement, but when we run high-rises (which we do) we take a lot of that into account. and there is absolutely no reason to hate on volunteers. I dont know what your system is, but where we are you go through all the same classes as the career folk and are just as qualified to be on a fire ground. sorry I upset you, I just thought it was something that would be mentioned.

  • When I was a teenager, I lived in a very tiny town, with about 100 people, no services and only one paved road. When there was a fire, someone rang the bell and everyone grabbed shovels and buckets and came running. Our only 'fire truck' was a pickup truck with a water tank on the back. Fire prevention and quick response while fires were still small was very important because if there was a major fire, such as a structure, the nearest "real" fire department was an hour away!

  • with the conditions that appear to be present in this video why have these men been ordered to the roof

  • Ok the Volly bashing was unnecassary and in poor taste. Same goes for the career side. I myself am a vol. fireman, but after college I am going to test to become a paid fireman. I am going to stay a vol. after I get hired, because I'm not going to forget where I came from. Then the volly's who think there better because they "do it for free." Come on now, most vol. fireman aspire to be paid fireman. Infact, most people I know who say that are the ones that couldn't pass the tests or get hired.

  • Oh yeah, I forgot, the guys that throw a department name out in there post, thats just stupid. Do you actually think anyone believes you? I know I don't.

  • As for you, no one on here said anything about being better for being a volunteer either, so stop putting words in mouths. And I completely disagree about the volunteers all wanting to be paid: most I know have successful jobs but enjoy the satisfaction of doing something so fulfilling as well.

  • the guys on my dept. for the most part just want to give back to the community. There are a few of us that aspire to the career side of things - but for the most part. We do what we do - because if we don't. . . then who will?

  • You should realize that in a great many towns and rural areas in this country volunteer fire firefighters are all there is and it has nothing to do with not being able to pass a test or get hired on. They are all there is because there are hundreds and maybe thousands of little towns and suberbs that people live in but don't have the money to support a paid firehouse. It's okay, you're young so you get some leeway for being ignorant.

  • I noticed that nobody responded to the fact that by volunteers doing the job for nothing that you take away paying jobs from guys just like yourselves. I'm not talking about farmer judd in shit kick America, I'm talking to the volunteers in departments that do a considerable amount of runs. You guys are the scabs. That's all I have to say.

  • Nobody's taking anyone's job because a lot of communities can't afford paid guys anyway! Are you listening at all?

  • Departments that run on career and voulenteer/paid on call side of things are better able to afford training and equipment (read: can be more safe) because there are people willing to do it for less money - or just because it is the right thing to do.

We are all brothers and sisters in this industry. We have to look out for one another - we can't look at anyone as a "scab" - it'll lead to disaster. That "scab" might very well pull you out of a blaze one day!

  • Well put mate.

  • most career ff's start out as a volunteer to see if they like it, then they move on to take exams. Damn, Ltmoty i guess volunteers have no place in this world just because we dont get a paycheck to do the same exact thing as you do.

  • Yeah sounds good you going to pay 90% raise in taxes to cover that? sounds good at the start but when your full time 6 or 7 crew in a small city gets in trouble they sure don't even bat an eye to call for help of others.

Heck lets have a crew on stand by getting paid for nothing cause if the first 12 get into it bad and help we sure wouldnt want to call for a mutual aid. Must be nice to have money to blow..

  • Oh, and by the way, most paid firemen are extremely passionate, so much so that they set out to attain their dream job. Some even up and move, like myself, to a city where the job is present. The true fact of the matter is that most vollies can't pass the entrance exam so they have to settle for the "club".

  • Yeah, the members of the "club" have more balls than you'll ever have. You were just talking shit about how safety isn't a priority to you and then you have the audacity to slam volunteers, who in my experience are as good as anything on a paid staff. Dude, this job for you is really about being the fucking hero isn't it?

  • Hey buddy just wanted you to know that just about every career firefighter I know started as a volly(including me). And the fact of the matter is that it doesnt matter because in the long run we are all fire fighters. Where i come from vollys are in charge of most of the state because of the lack of large citys. But in my book a volly is more couragous because he works his regular job ( around here its farming) and then goes and saves assholes like you when hes called to the job!!

  • Your right. If my house was on fire and my child was trapped in her room I sure would want to rely on volunteers who may or not be around over paid professionals. The truth is that volunteer departments are taxpayer funded clubs and should be disbanned and replaced with paid county departments. This is not the 1800's and the need is there but is being stopped by scabs.

  • And another thing.... that idea is impossible due to the lack of people that would be able to work there. most of the vollys at my station are also city firefighters (including me) and they are also working a side job with that. THAT IS 3 JOBS!!! Your lazy ass obviously does not work very hard because your just sittin at you computer putting down people that have way more balls then you'll ever have you fucking shit!!

  • Im saying that its a dangerous "PRO"fession and sometimes you have to do unsafe things to acheive an end. As far as volunteers go , I'm a union firefighter and I consider you and the others like you, scabs. What if we volunteered teachers ,electricians, steelworkers or plumbers? I think some heads would be broken on the jobsite but it's perfectly acceptable to do our job for nothing.

  • Wow, screw you. I'm a professional with an extensive background in volunteering, and I'll take my volunteers over your "pros" anyday. For you guys, firefighting's a job, for volunteers, its a goddam passion. Our department wouldn't survive without the volunteers. You shold seriously be ashamed for both praising unsafe practices and disrespecting the volunteers. Quit trying to be damn hero.

  • Sometimes short cuts are taken at fires but I gotta love these comments that are probably submitted by volunteers who respond to 200 or less fire calls a year and 2 or 3 structure fires at best. This is what goes on everyday and sometimes it's not done like your saftey officer has taught you in the smokehouse on Saturday while burning hay. This is what seperates the men from the frauds who walk around with the " I tread where devils reign" tee shirt.

  • Are you saying that by not following safety procedures you're a real hero as opposed to those who do? And what's with the diss on volunteers? Not cool dude, especially when taking the safety measures doesn't take any more time to do than to do it half-assed.

  • Gotta love the sound of pass devices going off!

  • And while that may have been a Cable/Phone line it doesn't matter. If you dont know, dont touch, that caould have easily been a live service drop for a neraby building.

Thanks for the lessons for the crew.

Sincerely, one pissed off Safety Officer.

  • Yo Boss...I think they were confident that single line was telcomm and not power... It's pretty standard for LA City...on the flip side, we did have a Capt go down w/critical burns after coming in contact with high voltage in a similar situation, albeit in the middle of the night...his hands were fried and I believe he pensioned off after that (he had 28 years on at the time).

  • Not too mention poor areial ladder placement, at what point is ut ok to cross under a potentialy live power line to access a roof, plus have it get stuck on your pack, come on people RISK VS BENEFIT, what if that wire was live and ended up on that ladder. I think we forget what he over all goal is. EVERY ONE GOES HOME! Poor firemanship and firegound safety on their part. Their actions dont even meet NFPA safety and health standards.

  • AMEN!!!!!!!! There were so many things that bothered me about that video its not funny. AND WE WONDER WHY WE KILL 100+ FF'S EVERY YEAR????????????????

  • Hey

    michiganfireman

soorry our department isn't as good as yours.

I guess Los Angeles County, one of the best counties out there can't hold up to your Michigan standards.

  • Great attitude. Great comment. I love attitudes like that ... *yawn*

  • i call the tangles hoselines sphagetti

  • 1:35, is this not the sickist site anyfirefighter has seen!

  • Lack of airpacks at the end, tangled hose lines, unsafe ladder ops, dropping equipment off a roof, etc. What an embarassment to the fire service. Any of these guys still alive? Have they killed or injured any of their brothers? What bad judgement and safety practices. I bet CAOSHA would have a field day with this video.

  • im not trying to argue but as they were doing the ventilation something went wrong..i dont remember but when he dropped the ladder there was still a guy there and they dont have the time to fix evrything..like chief says "rather see you alive instead of you dying because of the equipment"!!

  • Fire 101.. If there are wires, they must be HOT. unless confirmed. last smoke class I went to said building is naturally vented due to fire spread (judging by the video only). why on the roof? must of forgot a tool! i hate dear chief letters

  • those are really tangled hoses isn't it basic knowledge taught to explorers to never tangle your hose lines?

  • My husband got hurt on this fire...

  • Which company was/is he on? On the roof or inside on this one>? I remember there were several injuries here... Share some more info...!

  • 14's 'A' Shift on 5/1/02. He was on the engine and they put him on the roof. DOH!!! Engine guys DO NOT belong on the roof!!!

  • A bit of trivia...this call actually came out as an AUTO FIRE! I work right by 9's and was at 4th-Central when the call came out and right away you could see it was no auto fire!

  • Nope!

  • that sucks

  • holy crap 1:32 looks like a cluster... ive never seen hose like that

  • why don´t they extinguish the fire?
