  • I was in love with you in the 80's. I'm so glad you have resurfaced in the naughties

  • @SoniqueSince84 It stopped being the naughties two years ago. (!)

  • @Blueman2805 ... Yep. I'm talking about the release of "In the Court of the Crimson Queen" in 2008 and the return to the Toyah of old

  • Lol,What do you think i'm trying to do ??? ;-).

  • Who does 'Toyah' think she is? "Siouxsie Sioux" Lol ;-)

  • Love her

  • Silly girl

  • and that is in 1981.

  • i am a fan of toyah since i saw her on 'shoestring a u.k serie.

  • Mystérieuse créature !

  • The year my gf was born!

  • I think "Melissa Caplan" was the one who designed quite many of Toyah's outfits.

  • its a mystery who designed the clothes

  • A really fluid perfomance of a great song

  • I'm 13 and just heard this on the radio and asked my mother what the song was...

i don't think this music is rubbish i really enjoy it...it annoys me that a lot of young people like and accept there parents music but the older generations won't even give todays music a chance

its not all loud noise,in fact I'm on youtube playing and singing with my guitar and i've been inspired to do so by artists from all generations

i believe if you really enjoy music,it doesn't matter when it was written.

  • This always makes me thing of Mark and Lard.

    A shot.

    WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO????????

  • I followed Toyah around in the 80s starting at a Club called "The Underworld" in Birmingham. (1980 I think). The band and Toyah gave me and My mate a lift home after the Gig becasue the last train from Birmingham left too early. (Otherwise we would have missed Toyah) .. This meant we got in on the guest list for every GIG (Until she became bigger) ...

  • Check out electro kill machine on youtube and facebook., They are supporting Toyah in April. Saw them play with ADAMSKI last month...awesome!

  • Home PLAY PAUSE CATHERINE COOKSON

  • this is amazing OMG bring back all sorts or memories TY :) x

  • anyone that says this is shite is a total muppet

  • Her hair was always enviable...loved it and wanted to be here desperately..lol

  • you can see her live at Wig Out on sept 10th for as little as £3!

  • my mate loves this and her

  • fucking bag of shit

  • This was shite, back in the day, and it's shite still. Toyah is a lispy, grizzling witch, who really doesn't know when to stop.

  • I love Toyah. Did you know she is actually Bjork's mum?

  • @jackthelad4711 really are you sure thats really wonderfull man!!!!!!!!!!

  • <3 a true stlye icon her and miss Sioux

  • toyah will be at blackpool pride on 11th june performing with sinitta on north pier at 12pm-1:30pm

  • everyone had to mime on Top of the Pops in those days. I believe the rule came in after the Sex Pistols didn't sing to script on an occaision.

  • @CardfromAus Pistols only appeared 'in person' on one occasion, whith Pretty Vacant, and it was a pre-recorded miming performance so I don't know where you got that one from. Bands have been miming on TOTP since the 1960's.

  • i'm not sure but i think mabey she could be miming to this song.

  • great song - pity about the 'singing' - but i LOVE IT

  • TOYAH GIG!! :-D

Cardiff, The Globe, Sat Oct 29th.

  • I never heard of her until tonight, she was saying how Marc Bolan was her total inspiration. .

  • after all theses years its still a ' mythstory ' what this song is actualy about :O

  • WOOHOO!!! Toyah you rock babe..xx

  • Music today is rubbish to us. Our music is rubbish to today's generation. Music from the '30s is rubbish to a lot of us but not to those who lived in that era.

I'm 47, so this music was my 'growing up musical food' throughout teens etc.

Today's music to today's youth, is as OUR music was in our day.

  • @digitalbroadcaster get a grip mate :)

  • THIS TAKES ME BK YEARS AND YEARS......WE ALL WANTED TO BE LITTLE TOYAHS..HA HAAAAAAA

  • UK TOP 10 - 30 YEARS AGO THIS WEEK

    .

NUMBER 6 (4) TOYAH - FOUR FROM TOYAH (ITS A MYSTERY)

  • I was a massive Toyah fan when i was 3 there was a boy at playgroup who liked Adam Ant .. i begged my mum to get my ears pierced and my 14 year old sister took my to get my hair cut in a short style and my ears pierced i had a little vest top with Toyah on it .. aww happydays ! :))

  • 9 dislikes? oh.. its a mystery...

  • @Henryharveyharold

Only that there are so few...this is dreck.

  • yet again classsic

  • Toyah and the song's still great, but haircut and styling ??? typically 1980s

  • Whooooooooooo?

  • always wanted hair like toyah

  • Just had to watch this to remember myself how pish she was.

  • love it but what the hell were we thinking!!!!

  • is it one eye bollock mark? hoh five pounds!

  • its a mysssssssssstery' magicsong toyah'''

  • Takes me back to the best years of my life, the good old 80"s......

  • LOVE TOYAH GOING TO SEE HER 15TH OCTOBER AT SPARKLES SHOWBAR IN GRAN CANARIA

  • @dragdiva Was it a good concert?

  • Been a fan of her for so many years....

Brings back memories of seeing her at the Finsbury Park Rainbow in 1981.

Had the privilege of meeting her a few years ago, she is just adorable..

  • I listened to this song as a todler and I found out a couple of yrs ago wot its about. She did an interview and said that the ple who do things to children used to speak profanity to her in the night/demon spirits as a child. Or whatever, then she found the people in a book.. Where the images were the same as those dreams. I forgot what its called. Labarynth style, I forgot now. I used to get freaked out as a toddler by insain laughing tv characters, I guess we all have our thing. Strange thing

  • Sorry its a lispery, still I'd like to see my wife and her in a 69 position

  • Its a listery

  • always been a fan of Toyah`s always will be, I wish Toyah would sing new songs in the style of her earlier songs ie: ieya ,Waiting,She, Danced etc. I have seen Toyah many many times in concert and each one has been brilliant,

  • I did not know that song at all. I found that horrible, there is a thousand bands and singers better than that nowadays.

  • pump some more toyah right voice n tune there

  • Memories..........lol

  • Great! The background music reminds me of "Moomins" theme tune.

  • Toyah!!!! Oh yes...I was a huge fan back in the 80s, This song..this whole album, actually was a true jewel!!!

  • this is so much berrer than the shyte nowadays. LOL 1:34 someone starts singing the chorus then realises its not time.

  • Very nice song !

    Thank you for posting !

  • fuck lady gaga this is THE biatch!!

  • It's a mithtery

  • sorry but this song makes me laugh

  • Awesome babe and saw her at Battle abbey where her performance was top notch.

A great early 80's icon very much overlooked.

  • Siouxsie Sioux (of the Banshees) and Kate Bush list Toyah as a main influence on their music. Toyah was part of the "Theatre art punk" scene that was influenced by the Bowie/Eno/Roxy Music/P.I.L side rather than the Clash/Ramones/Black Flag scene. She was REAL though. I mean she came up with the whole 'space alien sex symbol' image and looked it all the time. Where Sheena did what her record company told her to.

  • A brIlliant song i loved the 70s and 80s songs Toyah was brilliant love Shirls xx

  • Lovely just love it and remember it as well, shows how old i'm getting hehe !!

  • Wish I could dance like that :O)

    P.s.

    Hi EMSers! Too easy! :O)

  • It's a mystery to me, but I love this track :O)

    Hi again EMSers :Op

  • Peter Jones..

    I used to 'BED' him!

  • Peter Jones...?

    Who's she?

Why the CAPITAL letters with bed and semi-quotation marks?

  • Hey hyena....

Get some rest... You look Tired!

  • OK. Good idea.

Can you sing me a lullaby. Promise me one thing though...you'll keep your hands to yourself.

    He! He!

PS You failed to answer my question re your funny grammar.

  • Hey Hyena...

    You up for a shag.?

    'No...?

ok, well, The funny grammer was in line with my Pre Punk-Goth-Toyah Behaviour! It was spose to be un noticable and ignored.. Trust you' to pick up on it!

  • A shag? Just had one, but thanks for asking, old stick. Very white of you.

    "Pre Punk-Goth-Toyah Behaviour?"

    Erm....OK.....

    Ol' Hyena notices everything.......

  • 'Oi.. Hyena...

Come alive would ya!... You're responding to a message i posted DECADES ago!!

Never keep a lady waiting' Boy!

  • Steady on, luv!

You think I spend all my waking hours sending you YT messages...?

I gots other fish to fry, but I trust you are suitably impressed with this speedy resonse and I will try my utmost to be prompter in my correspondence as I had no idea I meant that much to you.

Peter Jones looks great after the big refurbisment, but the rooftop restaurant is insanely over-priced. Fabulous view of my home town though.....

  • Are you reffering to the Peter Jones in Sloane Square, London..?

  • Naturally.

I think they closed the mini Peter Jones in Brompton Cross by my favourite eatery, The Admiral Codrington. A bit of a Hooray/Sloane Ranger venue, but that's what makes it fun.

    Such pretty girls there!

  • hahaaa this is an awesome conversation

makes me feel warm and gives me a hard on

  • Hey there Hyena.... You still around.?

I thought i'd re visit this wonderful song again' so i'm giving you a shout!

    x

  • Indeed, ol' Hyena is still alive and kicking, dearest yaniska.

Delightful to hear from you. I'm truly flattered.

The wee singer is still wee and still has a lisp. I was more into Clare Grogan, Tracy Tracy from The Primitives (even though she was a bit of tart!), and don't even mention Debbie Harry.......

I trust that you are well.

  • Hey There Wyena..

Have i got good news for you..

Not sure if you're a london boy or not, but Clare Grogan..(also my fav), is playing in an 80's concert, Two months from now, Midge ure, Gary Numan and others are also lined up for the 2-Day event.

Dont say i dont tell you Nuffin!

  • Course I'm a bleedin' London boy, yannie, ya daft mare! But now I'm many, many miles away from that fair city.

Midge Ure and Gary Numan good news? Midge was bald in the 80's so God knows what he looks like now. Wonder if there'll be any aging "Numanoids" at the show? Like Robert Smith from The Cure, he had all those weird lookalikes.

You do look out for me......

  • Great Song!!!

And to any EMSers, "YOU'VE BEEN MYSTERY-ROLLED!!!" :OP

  • Wonderful.

Boy.. I was MAD when i found out that Toyah was Married..

I tore down all her posters & Broke all her records..

    SHE WAS.... MINE!!!!!!

  • Haha it's funny how singer etc become "mine"

  • Yeah, You're right.. And i have forgiven her for doing that to me!

Hey.. You're not trying to steal her from me are you???

She;s still mine! And when i found out that she kissed that bloke in Quarophenia' I smashed the tv.

  • Hmm well I'm 18 so I originally know her from all those "100 best...100 funniest" programs, she always does them, along with Venessa Feltz :( Anoying woman. Dunno why they both always do those programs.

So she was never mine, see if you can get her now, be her stalker

  • Show some backbone, cubanbrown!

    Yoy should have stalked her!

In fact, it's not too late now......

  • Hahaha!

    ''NOW YOU TELL HIM!!!

  • Ha!

Excitement over a midget with a lisp...

Harrods, by the way, is shite these days. Been to the Egyptian Room lately....?

Where oh where is Tiny Rowland?

  • Where oh Where' is Tony WHO..?

Harrods Shit (these days??) Was it ever a great place...?

Dude... You should've gon to SPECSAVERS!!!

  • Yeah, H R Rods was pretty classy in the day when Tiny (NOT Tony) Rowland ran the show. Used to go there as a kid and play hide n seek and jump up and down on the beds and couches. Wouldn't last two minutes doing that now with all of Al-Fayed's Nazi stormtrooper insecurity guards.

And now they have Harrods outlets in airports for heavens sake!

Just an over-priced tourist trap now. I'll take Peter Jones or Selfridges any day.

  • LOL, stalk Toyah and Robert Fripp will insert a New Standard Tuned guitar in you sideways.

  • Toyah, you are good.

  • it's a mystery! oh it's a mystery! why this isn't more popular! 0:55

  • The brilliant Toyah :)

  • classic. love it

  • Thanks for uploading. I remember watching this live in 1981.. havn't seen it since. Made me an instant fan. I didn't really realise it at the time but she was pretty good looking wasnt' she? Good dancer too, if you can call that dancing. Not exactly shy onstage either. Saw her perform live onstage in '81 and '82, the Anthem and Warrior Rock tours.

  • i remember her as the voice of "brum"

  • Absolutely brilliant. Possibly the best song from my junior school days. (Mrs Blythe's class!) Tried to dance to this at the school disco once. Failed abysmally.

THIS is what music's all about. Not the tripe that passes for "music" nowadays.

  • @Lee71England pmsl fella you and me both mate toyah top girl not bad live either , god why do we have to get old , so many good tunes and good memories to tracks like this , the cure, maddness, the specials , omd , etc,, etc,,

  • @gwrscoob Yep. Great memories indeed. Just can't believe all this was nearly 30 years ago...

  • This has to be the most shaggable dwarfette ever.

    4ft 11 of total hornyness!

I wish I was an Oompah Loompah, then maybe I'd have a chance!

  • lol

  • Melissa caplan clothes! handpainted, based on celtic imagery & vikings. love love love this song. COVERED in clothes, not like Britney, christina, ciara and all ´the other american WHORES who project the idea that any girl to have any value at all in life; should do anal on the first date and say shes bisexual on myspace or else no guy will even talk to her, or go on to the next skank. HATE what the world has come to!!!!!

  • Well Said and how true !

99% of todays female singers have no values the only reason they have got to where there are is dropping their knickers to the right person and making raunchy videos ( though i say raunchy some are more or just as well be porn ) nothing to do with being able to sing as good as Toyah.

  • ...in hithtory, it'th a mythtery

  • This woman was responsible for kick- starting my hormones as teenager. A lot to be responsible for. She starred in a TV drama called 'One Summer' which did for me! Anyone remember it?

  • Music these days is total crap i wish there was still music like this.

  • Wow so beautiful

  • A few years back I installed modular hardwood flooring at Toyah Wilcox's house. We got talking and she said the flooring was an early birthday present for her hubbie Robert Fripp. "Robert Fripp!" I said, "if I knew it was for a real musician I wouldn't be doing such a half-arsed job". We both had a good laugh but unfortunately I never saw her again as I was sacked the next day.

  • thxs Sheep!

  • Great!

  • i was an 80s fan my hero jane b

  • This song is great. Gotta love the 80's.

and I love her hair. Its so bouncy! LOL

    =^___^=

  • Toyah is underestimated as a singer I think, she is up there with Siouxsie Sioux and Polly Styrene as a female vocalist who defined the punk/post punk era.

  • she could blow poly off the stage...........

  • Please....Toyah was about as punk as Sheena Easton.

  • one of my teachers at school wrote this song XD

  • LOL he wrote the lyrics too?

    What was he thinking?!

  • MITSUBISHI should use this in an ad...

    Mitsubishi for me !

  • It's a mystery alright, I'll never understand how this crap sold, lack of competition I suppose, the music producers could put any old rubbish out and mugs would buy it. The spluttering cow is a real turn off.

  • it was a time for all things new, new style music, open your mind, it was a good bouncy dancy song, I remember fondly dancing at school discos to this, don't put down what you don't understand......

  • fantastic. no question about it. It Was FANTASTIC.

  • CLASSIC

  • Toyah, left a mark in the early 80's. Toyah was one of the early 80's pioneers. The 80's would of been alot different without her...

  • Totally agree- In my opinion she bridged the gap between new wave and the new romantics...She is often cruelly overlooked for her achievements :-(

  • reminds me of yea yea yea's.

  • Anyone knows where I can find her song 'Popstar'? I looked everywhere, even iToones haven't got it....it's a mystery to me (no pun intended)! LOL

  • It's on both "Anthem" and "Good Morning Universe-The Very Best Of Toyah". Both are available from HMV, Amazon, Smiths etc...

  • it would have been better for this song to come out in october 1981 for halloween-it would be the perfect song

  • Back in 1981, songs like this got me through school. Ahhh the memories. Or as Dracula would say to Dolly Parton....Fangs for the Mamaries. Right I'll get me coat.

  • her haircut is a mystery, lol

  • I was there. best times ever...

  • This is a class song saw her sing it in concert 5 times Im showing my age!!!!

  • love this track when i first heard this..it stayed with me all day at work its a mystery!!! gr8 song!!!

  • ithhhh a mythhhstery indeed!!

  • ITTH A MYTHTERY.

  • PUNK YA DICKHEAD

  • Really difficult to work out whether she's a rebel post-punk trailblazer or a soppy middle-class brat poncing about... maybe both. Nice tune.

  • Toyah was pre-punk..........and very underrated.not the greatest voice, but innovative.....

  • Prefer the older stuff - Sheep Farming in Barnet & Blue Meanings still sound top notch - She was way ahead of her time at a very young age but went mainstream & then lost it big time after she split musically with Joel Bogen. Joel Bogen the unsung hero

  • unsung is the correct word....if you have ever heard Joel's solo album

  • loved toyah to bits when i was a kid. god bless her!

  • Saw toyah last week in Exeter 80s concert, she was ace and looking so good now shes 50.This song reminds me of school.

  • I found this really scrary when it was released in 1981, Toyah looks funny oh the memories of the 80's classic fashion sense from back then!!!

    DA

  • Nigel Glockler from Saxon on Drums before he joind in 83 for Power and the Glory

  • This is available on the 2CD set "Good Morning Universe- The very Best Of Toyah" which is released on 30th June 2008.

  • Saw Toyah live last night at the Wisley Music Festival in Surrey. She was excellant! She is still a top drawer live performer! She looked and sounded fantastic.

  • Is that Andy Nye on keyboards?

  • Toyah's keyboard player was named Joel somethingorother......he released a solo album in the 80's that bombed

  • lets have a heated debate... gosh so much contention over hair, lisp etc... get over it- she was drop dead cool... anti racist anti homophobic and proud to be loud lisping and unnecessary... after a childhood of disability dyslexia and severe bullying she grew to light the way for others and contributed to the leading movement of the day whether you like it or not- lets call it new wave not punk.... Toyah bashing seems to be some kind of national bloodsport...strange.

  • well said.....toyah was far ahead of her time.....

  • Keith Hale you legend! wooop

  • WTF?

    is ermine

    HAHA LEDGEND!!!
