aww..little tom is very cute and small...but now he's grown up he's already 17 in (2011) .....i will just miss him ni libera and micheal horncastle his neck is always in the side when he sings wether r not i think maybe it's a concentration technic
@siamese63 They are not made to do anything, they are totally free to do as they want and they choose the songs themselves (together with the director). This is their hobby, they like to do it.
And I'm not sure what they believe in and to be honest I don't care. I find it horrible that you attack young children who are doing their best and having fun with your anti-preaching. They can't help you had some bad experiences in a choir.

Some boys stay on to do the lower parts. They usually fit their studies around rehearsals and touring, so they don't miss out on too much, but basically once they either choose to leave or stay on I think.
all of the boys go to regular schools in south london. it is not like the vienna boys' choir where they live together year-round. This is just a 'hobby' for these boys, much like soccer or violin. Most boys will continue on in the St. Philips' Church Choir, singing tenor and bass, and some choose to remain in libera.

hmmm...some people say this is lip-sync'd...well, to my eyes, this is a true recording, but the way it sounds i suppose doesn't match up exactly with the church or chapel. that said, it really doesn't matter if they are singing that or not, their recording has not been totally changed, apart from maybe mixing a few recordings. maybe for some reason the recording in there wasn't working. it is difficult to get a recording anyway while filming, especially with a choir. great video i think.
Well, if they are lip sync-ing, they are lip sync-ing to their own voices, because both Tom and Michael's voices sound like mini-versions of the way Tom's voice sounds now and Michael's sounded before his voice changed!!
intersting, you can really tell that tom is younger than michale here...tom still has is "early childhood voice" while michael's is definately a boy's voice.
Seeing how young Michael and Tom look here, really does bring it home, how quickly they grow. I wish they could be on Songs of Praise every week (impossible I know, but wishful thinking nonetheless)
tom and micheal just kill me every time I watch this! sure, michael is a little "notey" and tom voice has not made the transition from early childhood to late childhood (it has an "edge") but the tuning was wonderful (for ones so young) and they are very very cute!

Hi, Why on earth should boys with obvious talent, standing in a setting where a "live" recording would be ideal, have their true talents hidden by the use of a backing track.. where rehearsing for the video requires the boys, not to sing as they can so well, but instead to do their very best to match the track?? Of course the pop stars do this too. In such cases, these videos then do NOT show off the REAL talent that the singers have!
Why don't you go for some live versions of libera then? You would learn very fast that they CAN sing! And, f.y.i., its's not only "those choirboy vids" that are lip sync'd but also anything shown on channels like mtv. You wouldn't question the singing abilities of, for example, Gwen Stefani, right?
Watching this one and their most recent videos makes me feel old. Michael went from the smallest boy to the tallest right before my eyes! Tom is now the main soloist! Sniff...they grow up so fast... :)

I always thought of tom and michael like my babies...cuz they were so tiny...then.. when "You were there" vid was first out...i saw tom looking like a big boy(let alone Michael) and i thought...gees...does this make me a mother of teenage boys? lol xD
this is just amazing. some of them MUST have perfect pitch...they have such perfect in-tune melodic voices. this is the music that goes above all the other church music(organ, big huge manly choir etc), it really can't be any better than this.

Every year new Members come and some go 7 - 16 Yrs old.
Every time 1 goes another comes.
And they get scholorships and degree's in music and a choral degree.

actually, they don't. some go on to music degrees, but most of them go on to lead normal boys' lives.
The boys join libera when they are judged by robert prizeman to be ready.

I imagine it's a lot like a cathedral/chapel choir school: you sing and study and in the hols you tour abroad.

Boy choirs are the best. It's something in their timbre that makes them the loveliest singers. They are WAY more beautiful than most adult choirs.
