Also, there is plenty of ways to learn from someone without copying their riffs/melodies: scale, equipement,sound, playing techniques, mood, etc... This is what most people means by influencing, not copying. Halen influenced many with his tapping technique, not the tapping parts themselves.

About the domination riff, the one note chugging is similar, but the problem is, intuitively, people tend to write breakdown sounding the same. Even I probably played it by luck messing around
