Haha we performed this today at the Natchez Mississippi All State Band Directors Association Clinic. (Oboe) It is a very gorgeous peice, thank you for sharing it.
@mstenorsaxplayer When a peice is played it is almost always played right, just with a different feel if you get where I am going. :) I like it best when the beginning is both fast and slow at parts, thats how we played it. Talk about hard to follow O.o
The tempo is way too fast. For some odd reason, most bands don't play this tune at a slower tempo. Thus, allowing the natural richness of the tune to permeate.
I remember playing this piece in concert band while in college (played timpani). Surprised that I still remember my part after all of these years, even though I miss it.
Again, played at a tempo that strips the organic soul and passion from the piece. At the beginning show off the rich pipe organist sound of the lower woodwind. Overall, like many others not a bad performance.
too fast at the beginning, wayyy too slow at 3,4 etc.. very noticable mistakes throughout, but you have a very dark, rich sound which I wish my badn could have. Come on clarinets on that tonguing
@MomijiLover93 I love this song, even though it takes 10 minutes to play, it is just beautiful and no one in the class complains when we play it, unlike with the other pieces like "grand serenade for a whole lot of wind and percussion"
I graduated hs in 08 and this brings back memories senior year...we played this for festival and other bands thought we'd do bad on it but...we killed it. I love this sooo much and would love to play it again. (I play clarinet 9 years and going...CLARINETS RULE!)
contrabass clarinet FTW. I played this for bass clarinet. Our solo clarinetist was sick at the concert, and didnt play very well, so our performance was lacking
I am a fan of "British Light Music" and this piece was one of the items on a CD I have of "Light Music". A hunt on the internet turned up the score and parts for this and I gave it to the band to play.
I played this selection in the School of Music, but the tempo was faster. This is one of my favorite songs.

Definitely too fast. It's poignant when it's played at the correct tempo, but this conductor just seemed to want to get through it.

Love this piece. I played it this year in band on the bari. We played it much slower though. Still very well done.

The song feels rushed and the the clarinet parts should have been solos and tongued

Good rendition ! Maryville High School did this in 1964 with a pipe organ at a competition at Maryville College at the Samuel Tyndale Wilson chapel.

We just did this song for our spring concert in my High School Wind Ensemble. I'm a contrabass clarinetist and this song was fun.
I think we did just as good as this band, or even a little better (not to boast), but we sure spent a lot of time on it.
It's one of my most favorite pieces that I've played, and it's really beautiful!!
