  • I played this selection in the School of Music, but the tempo was faster. This is one of my favorite songs.

  • I enjoyed playing this selection in high school...has stuck with me for these many years

  • Thanks for sharing this.

  • trying to find a video where someone actually plays this peice right. anyone have any suggestions?

  • @mstenorsaxplayer When a peice is played it is almost always played right, just with a different feel if you get where I am going. :) I like it best when the beginning is both fast and slow at parts, thats how we played it. Talk about hard to follow O.o

  • The tempo is way too fast. For some odd reason, most bands don't play this tune at a slower tempo. Thus, allowing the natural richness of the tune to permeate.

  • I am a band director, PHD, way too loud and fast

  • Tooooo fast in the beginning...

  • Amazing song, we played it last month, and i fell in love with it. took a lot of work to pull it off, but it was so worth it.

  • I remember playing this piece in concert band while in college (played timpani). Surprised that I still remember my part after all of these years, even though I miss it.

  • Again, played at a tempo that strips the organic soul and passion from the piece. At the beginning show off the rich pipe organist sound of the lower woodwind. Overall, like many others not a bad performance.

  • its written to be exactly 10 min long!!! too fast :(

  • Definitely too fast. It's poignant when it's played at the correct tempo, but this conductor just seemed to want to get through it.

  • i love this song lol

  • yeah way to fast..

  • Hehe we sight read this piece in one day and we did not screw so we decided to try either mars or jupiter

  • I love this song.

But I feel like this band could have played with 150% more emotion.

  • Love this piece. I played it this year in band on the bari. We played it much slower though. Still very well done.

  • The song feels rushed and the the clarinet parts should have been solos and tongued

  • i was oboe

  • Great song! our highschool band did this with 30 people. we did bad but our clarinetist rocked.

  • too fast at the beginning, wayyy too slow at 3,4 etc.. very noticable mistakes throughout, but you have a very dark, rich sound which I wish my badn could have. Come on clarinets on that tonguing

  • Dont like the style of playing from this ensemble.

  • Too fast!!!

  • Beautiful song and I loved the speed..but those clarinets were god awful. Stop squawking!

  • I played this in junior high during the transition from marching season to concert season. This is just an Awesome piece.

  • We are going to play this for festival and it sounds SO much better slower ... ok sound but misses the a lot of the musical aspect of the piece

  • haha we played this for honors band it was like alot laster haha :)

  • guys slower ;) pls

  • gah, too fast =(

we sight read it this morning and it was so pretty when it was slow, i almost wanted to cry(baby, i know haha)

this is an awesome freaking song, it made my day better when we played it, and we only got half way through =)

  • good job anna. it's sad that we watch the same videos.

  • lol, well i must've watched it first since my comment was 10 hours before yours tyler =P

  • @MomijiLover93 I love this song, even though it takes 10 minutes to play, it is just beautiful and no one in the class complains when we play it, unlike with the other pieces like "grand serenade for a whole lot of wind and percussion"

  • Good rendition ! Maryville High School did this in 1964 with a pipe organ at a competition at Maryville College at the Samuel Tyndale Wilson chapel.

  • I graduated hs in 08 and this brings back memories senior year...we played this for festival and other bands thought we'd do bad on it but...we killed it. I love this sooo much and would love to play it again. (I play clarinet 9 years and going...CLARINETS RULE!)

  • We just did this song for our spring concert in my High School Wind Ensemble. I'm a contrabass clarinetist and this song was fun.

I think we did just as good as this band, or even a little better (not to boast), but we sure spent a lot of time on it.

It's one of my most favorite pieces that I've played, and it's really beautiful!!

  • contrabass clarinet FTW. I played this for bass clarinet. Our solo clarinetist was sick at the concert, and didnt play very well, so our performance was lacking

  • The whole song seems a lttle rushed. I personally prefer the begining espe to be a little more drawn out

  • playing this song for honors band....its really fast....it should be drawn out in the beginning. its so long and hard....well actually not really.

  • 4:29 is supposed to be a cymbal hit, not a roll.

  • we just played this at LGPE

and got straight ones on our preformance

  • my highschool is playing this right now

  • We played this in symphonic band my jr year in high school....it was one of my favorite pieces

  • What made you choose this particular piece of music?

  • I am a fan of "British Light Music" and this piece was one of the items on a CD I have of "Light Music". A hunt on the internet turned up the score and parts for this and I gave it to the band to play.
