i am not english but live here and i have a great respect for the royals. especially for prince harry who fought in afghanistans frontline! immagine that! a prince who risks his life for our freedom. my upmost respect. also the queens mother, i dearly loved her. what a wonderfull person.
The history, the footage and that particular version of God Save The Queen are a fine and fitting tribute indeed. My mother was Scottish, and her Queen was Elizabeth, Queen Mother.
I read that her husband, George 6 had a terrible temper, swore horribly and was even known to hit her quite a lot. Suddenly I like her more now. Knowing this makes her seem more of a human being.
im a staunch scotsman and celtic fan but she was what a true queen should be staunch opinionated and a leader plus she was proud to love scotland a true ground breaker xxx
But WHY did she make you proud to be "English"? The Queen Mother was Scottish (daughter of the Earl and Countess of Strathmore). And as Queen she wasn't "Queen of England" as so many Americans mistakenly called her (and call her daughter, the current Queen) but Queen of Great Britain (which encompasses England, Scotland and Wales) and Northern Ireland.
@Manfromelpaso How is Northern Ireland a part of Great Britain, unless you're using GB in a "slang" sense? It's on a different island! Northern Ireland is part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and the Queen Mother was Queen Consort of the United Kingdom..
We don't have a king! We have a queen! But when the current Queen's father was king, the Queen mother was just his wife, but she wasnt more important.
Unlike Diana Spencer who needed the media to boost her ego, Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother simply got on with the role of representing the people of the Uk and the Commonwealth. No crying on TV. No tell-all interviews. No pandering to public opion polls. Loved and respected for 80 years.
Let us get back on track. This video is about Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother. The member of the royal family who invented the "walk about"..bringing the monarchy closer to the people. This was the Queen that stayed in London throughout the blitz. Who learnt how to use a pistol in case Britain had been invaded. The Queen Mother who, as we discovered recently, fought cancer and went on to serve the people of the Commonwealth a further 40 odd years.
she was a true symbol of Hope you really have to respect someone like her she was brave, dignified and possibly the greatest woman i have ever heard of
Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother was a lovely person with a great deal of class. She was a wonderful representation of everything that was/ is regal to the British throne.
I agree. She was a great historical figure who learned from a very early age, not to discuss her feelings or opions in public. Senior members of a democratic monarchy have no business interfering with party political matters. We will never really know what the Queen Mother's views were on anything. She had personal friends from all sides of the political spectrum. On the one hand she was said to be a big admirer of Thatcher and yet she supported the miners during the Miners Strike. A great lady.
Brownies in 1966 on Vancouver Ilsand formed a guard of honour for this woman. She was so kind and sweet. Bad primeministers come and go but oh the crown goes on|! i saw nothing disresectful in any of the slides.
Yes, I agree. I can't understand why your comment would have gotten so many (7) thumbs down. There's something I've never been able to decide: Was the Queen Mother the greatest queen in British History, or the mother of the greatest Queen? What do you think?
I don't know if we are fortunate, but looking about the world, I don't see in republicanism is in any way superior.
The advantage of monarchy is that the symbol of the nation, chief of state and head of the armed forces does not exercise political power; and the person who exercises political power is not the symbol of the country, the chief of state and the head of the armed forces. We can despise the government and not betray the nation. Besides the last 2 monarchs have been great.
George VI diead as a result of heavy smoking and stress of leading an empire through a world war. If edward had stayed on the throne - his brother perhaps would not of gone to an early grave.
The Queen Mother treated in them that way, because it was their fault that her husband was placed on the throne which ended up killing him! She blamed Edward for the death of the King and quite right she was to.
It would have been known us Canadians, Americans, Brits - by all in the world how important it was THEN, for Hitler to bomb Buckingham Palace - yet the last thing on Her mind and on King George's was to leave it and their people. Her and her husband - a stutterer like me - were dauntless, and loved by all. I hope the monarchy lasts forever.
American men of the 1940's understood honor... that's why they fought for the preservation of Britain-- America's Motherland. Those men saw and understood the horror of the German bombings. Their families and friends back home in America could only know of it second-hand via the stories these men told them.
...Think of 9-11. That was just - one - day. Americans on American soil, have never had to suffer bombings day after day, night after night, neighborhoods suddenly blown apart, familiar landmarks instantly gone; nor had friends, neighbors, family here one moment and gone forever the next.
...I am proud of the steadfast Brits of that era, for trying to live through each one of those days routinely and as civilized as possible in the midst of all that Hell. And it was Queen Elizabeth whose own firm stance against panic and fear helped bolster their determination to see to it that "There will always be an England."
A very hard working, Christian woman. Loyal wife, mother of two exemplary and beautiful daughters. The Queen Mother lived a long, blameless life, and was a good example to us all.
I'm American; born in the 1960s. I did not know a lot of this, but you've put together a fine tribute to a remarkable woman.
thank you for showing this video, i miss her very much, i have always loved the royal family since i was little now am 47 i miss her most when it was her birthday when the children used to give her presents
The Queen Mother is way better than Diana, Princess of Wales. Diana may be more famous in today's celebrity-crazed world but for me the Queen Mother loved her husband, did not cheat on her husband, did not even remarry after her husband's death and was a woman worthy of emulation.
What a wonderful piece of monarchy propaganda. I have never ever understood how the poorest people of Britain have admired the richest people in Britain. Lets face the truth. Had the Germans invaded in WW2 They would have been the first people on board a plane or boat out of the Country along with that other "great hero" Churchill
My Personal Heroes are the likes of Mandela, Martin Luther King, John F Kennedy, Robert F Kennedy, Yitzhak Rabin - People who were preapred to make great sacrifices for change - Villain - only one really - Thatcher - truly despise the woman. As for Royalty - they do nothing, and achieve nothing - so have no opinion on them
What a great lady she was! I have so many books about her. She was unpretentious to a fault and gave the best to Her England. May she know eternal peace.
This is a tribute to a gin swigging gambling, hate holding grudge bearing old trout. Never gave an interview, who was a poisonous old bag to the late Duke & Duchess of Windsor
Wallis Warfield Simpson aspired to be Queen of England-- but that didn't happen. She baited the feud with Elizabeth for years. And of course the Duke (Edward VIII) was nothing more but a "Casper Milquetoast" through it all.
Coffins, even for royalty, are rarely, if ever, custom-sized, as clothing is. Superficial design elements may be customized, however. The only exception being for deceased persons whose weight exceeds several hundred pounds. When such is the case, special construction routines must be brought into play in order to contain the remains.
At the time of the Queen's visit to Germany in 1978, I was 14. It made a deep and lasting impression on me and it turned out that this moment would quite literally change my life. Ever since then, I have been fascinated by everything connected with Great Britain, especially Her Majesty.
Over the past 50 years she has been, and still remains, the best advertisement for her country.I hope the people of the UK preserve this unique and fine institution for the future.
