  • i seen the subhumans with jello and his new band at the rickshaw last night in vancouver and i must say it was fantastic..punks not dead...

  • I may be there.

    The Budda,Stalag 13,Wank Manor,The Asylum North(Patient 8) ,KitsBranch,The Wighthouse,a few places i lived

    Snotface,Ergot,Slutty,Crimson,a few guys

  • I saw them 8 or 10 times back then ,but I wasn't there that night. Awesome vid. Thanks.

  • EPIC FOOTAGE

  • This is great footage.

  • Holy shit I thought Overkill wrote this fucking song! I'm a fucking dumbass. I had no idea.

  • FUCKING HELL WTF?

  • Brilliant! Thanks for posting, Doreengrey!! Am loving the typical youtube squabblefest which accompanies this, although it does make me wanna bang some heads together. BOTH Subhumans bands were/are wonderful. Punk, innit? Also, I'm well impressed by Wimpy Roy's trousers.

  • I believe Crass devolved into some sort of hippy-ish commune. They were full-of-shit commies and a pathetic joke.

  • That how they started out - arsehole.

  • So, in that case, crASS were always a bunch of hippy-faggot, communal type shit.

  • thats flea on bass and brian from d o a

  • I love this song, i used to think it was a DOA song. both versions are amazing!

  • wimpy roy can kill sid vicious, well all most. subhumans vancouver, should collaberate with the remnants of a.w.t. minous cancer boy

  • I've always thought this song was too much better than the rest of Overkill's production... Now I know it was a Subhumans' cover..!

Thanx for posting, this is great.

  • Yes, the Subhumans wrote this song in 1978. They have written a lot of really intelligent and angry songs - try "Firing Squad" or "Moving Forward." They are a band with a lot of integrity but are not very well known. BTW, Overkill claimed to have written "Fuck You" and then later had to admit they had stolen it from the Subhumans.

  • did subhumans rite this song?

  • Dude.....

  • why is it that all punx are rebels but talk shit about stupid ass shittttttttttttttttttttt like u dont know that blahahahahahaha fuk ittttttt fuk u youuuuuuuuuuupunk smunk hip hop smip smop wattttttttttttttttttttttttttt evers!!!!!fukkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk it im gunna use my full space in this comment 2 make this look long and important let the argueinggggggg continue. fukin i wanna hear the diss'es!!!!!!! lets talk politics fuk politics. dude POLITiCAL DRAMA RID IT!!!!!! haha this comment eats dick

  • too bad vancouver's mostly a bunch of yuppies and scene-pricks now

  • Song is just called 'Fuck You'. Ta fer uploading it. Spud's been looking fer it fer a bit now. DOA version is pretty cool. Anyone got a vid of the Subhumans singing "Slave to My Dick" That one is an uber classique. NickNack and Lust4Hate need to get a room or sommat. Lust actually comes off as the bigger douchenozzle there. Deth has a suggestion fer Lusty. Try writing a 10,000 word essay on "Wot Punk Stands For" Have you done so? Good. Now shove it up yer ass.

    Be Well.

  • i always use the full title when there is one, fuck you is 4 lazy sods like yrself

  • so the subhumans were lazy punks to lol... on the maxi i got from them back to 1979, the song is called "FUCK YOU" and that's all, go buy the album before saying stupidities... Punk !

  • Great show! Nice to see some of the retro punk footage!

BTW. this is SUBHUMANS the Canadian band. not the other band from the UK. I think some of the comments on this page are referring to a different band and not the Canadian Punk Band that changed punk music for ever! Oh and DOA and The SUBHUMANS are friends from the start and have been in the same bands together on and off over the years. So to say one is better than another is just silly. They are both the same movement in Vancouver

  • I saw Dr Know do this bit in LA over 20 yrs ago. Godddamn I'm old...

Anyway, its good to see a record of this so a younger generation can get the vibe of what their parents were REALLY up to.

  • this is the original and it sounds pretty good but i like the Overkill version much better than this (just my opinion).

  • "we don't care what you say fuck you" is the ultimate expression of punk rock. it encapsulates the anger and rejection of a world cannibalizing itself from the inside grinding us up like the meat in sweeney todds grinder. it is the key to ultimate freedom, you don't have to listen to anyone tell you what to do, that is your choice. whether you fail or lose in your choice, doesn't prove anything, because we need to live fearlessly in order to survive the apocalypse in which we now live.

  • this subhumans band is every bit as good as the slightly more famous uk band. This band in general is more traditional in their approach but that takes nothing away from how great their songs are. Incorrect thoughts is classic, the new album is also very good, but this song is my favorite for pure punk rock attitude.

  • Well, if you look at punk in the basic sense and all you want is the "Fuck this" "fuck that" attitude then of course you will like this band better,

Subhumans UK writes their songs about things that matter.

  • it sounds like you haven't even listened to the Subhumans (vancouver)

their music is very political and socially aware

their bass player was even sentenced to 10 years in jail for environmental and politically motivated firebombings

  • A bass players actions do not reflect on a band's attitude, however a song called "we don't care what you say fuck you" does.

While I did listen to some songs before completely disregarding them, I don't think the lyrics are on the level of Dick Lucas'

  • Subhumans UK are a bunch of pinkos...not punk!

  • You have no idea what you're talking about.

  • I don't? You call the Subhumans UK pinkos, do you know anything about them? They certainly aren't communists, and for their radical ideas they get put down by ignorant kids like you who don't know anything about punk past "Skate or Die" and "Fuck this and fuck that"

  • You don't, and you certainly don't even know me, so shut up. Boring strawman tactic on your part. You're the ignorant kid. It's moralist and dogmatic attitude like yours, and all the pseudo-anarcho, pseudo-punk bands like Crass and Subhumans UK that destroyed what punk was about. You're a pretentious kid and being a leftish moralist certainly doesn't make you punk. You belong to the flower power generation, and have nothing to do with punk. Pinkos=leftish nazis...

  • Pinko was a term for communist, learn your terms before you use them.

I'm ignorant? How so, I value my knowledge, you on the other hand seem to support an ideal of punk that makes punk virtually useless, claiming that Crass and Subhumans UK destroyed punk. Crass did more for punk than most other bands. I never claimed to be "punk", and I would hope that you don't either, because your attitude and beliefs contradict everything the music stands for.

  • You're a narrow minded hypocrite! Period. Now stay away from punk rock.

  • wow. you make a statement without any evidence, then you give me an order. Its as if you don't know anything about the music you claim to like.

  • An order? Damn. It's just an advice. You're the one preaching everywhere. It's pretty obvious you're narrow minded. Preaching kid.

  • Actually, it's The Subhumans from Vancouver who were commies or at least their bassist, Gerry Hannah, is a commie. After he left the Subhumans, he joined a radical eco-freako commie terrorist group called Direct Action.

  • Actually, "FUCK YOU" is quite unlike most of their other songs, lyrically. I think you'd be surprised at just how socially and politically charged this band was. Along with DOA, they probably influenced politics in PUNK more than almost every N.A. band you could name except for the DK"s maybe.

  • I prefer the Vancouver band

    Subhumans great Canadian punk rock!!!

  • I don't see why

  • The original Subhmans. Great stuff, Doreen!

  • subhumans vancouver you fucking kooks.

  • Subhumans Uk...no need to say anymore.

  • Vancouver had a great scene in the late 70's.

The Subhumans were as good as any anywhere.

The lat time I saw them was at the West End Community Centre with The Pointed Sticks and Payola$.

  • its the ones from vancuver, i don't like em eather, but there ok i guess....

  • This really is FABULOUS!!! DOA or The Subhumans?! Do I really have to choose?! They don't, Roy played with DOA for a while, they played songs from both bands equally well. Ever see 'Spunk'? They were the comedy spin off band containing members of both bands. Thanx SO MUCH!

  • This is some vintage footage. Awesome!!!

Wish i was there. I was 11 yrs old mind you but still!

  • Subliminal messaging much?

    still, pretty good.

  • great piece of Van. punk history, were was this gig @

  • Looks like the Budda

  • Not the Buddha

  • the center of punk in the late 70`s & early 80`s !!!!DIRECT ACTION-SQUAMISH 5-!!! & The smell of burning banks&goverment buildings !

  • BTW whenever I saw D.O.A. at the New York Theatre in the mid '80s, there was always a film crew around. Anybody know where this footage wound up?

  • good question. I want to see the live DOA version, and/or the 45 they put out... fantastic.

  • Regarding who is the 'real' Subhumans- I asked the guys in the U.K. band if they ever played a show together. They said almost, but the gig fell through. In any case, if both these bands are cool with it, who cares?

  • WHAT A GEM !!! Real quality footage.Doreen you're a pro !!Thanks so much for posting.

  • to: jacobcracker

HERE'S WHAT YOU DON'T KNOW: THE VANCOUVER SUBS WERE THE ORIGINAL SUBHUMANS. SO WHY DON'T YOU STFU YOU STUPID IDIOT> NO ONE CARES WHAT YOU SAY, SO FUCK YOU.

  • bucknek, it is not worth it to be upset about this stuff, the history is well documented, jacobcrocker just didn't know better, now he does. your awesome heart is not unappreciated, but we need to fight the real enemies...

  • yes doreen.

  • Doreen, thanks for the old footage of a great and underrated band.

  • the vancouver 'subhumans' started in '78, but really, what is "real" these days, it's nothing but a lying, cheating, dumping, pimping, whoring world out there...

  • this is the piece of subs i used for beginning of part 1 of bovary's children. some of the stuff "thepunkmovie" is using, the old stuff is mine and i think as of yesterday it has now been credited. i lent the footage to raise funds for a film, so i've been kind of put in limbo, i could have been working on this stuff six years ago if i had been given the support i needed just to transfer the stuff to digital

  • ty doreen. it's nice to finally see this stuff surfacing..i knew there just had to be some video out there of these guys from back in the day. more please
