my name is graham coxon and i enjoy nicking the tune of the verses of range life by pavement and using it in the verses of my song called freakin' out
The 90's was my generation for music and at that time I liked some Blur songs, but was never really into them that much. These days I cant stop listening to them and I like Coxons solo stuff. I think he's the best guitarist of that era hands down and he plays some amazing riffs on that SG on this vid. There's also a cracking vid of Blur doing beetlebum live on Jools Holland around 97 and I recommend watching it for his guitar work. LEGEND!!
Deep meanings are true because you derive your own truth. Straight forward lyrics are nice though; you can tell the band was takin' a piss and came up with some natural stuff.
"think tank was superb. im just looking forward to seeing them together again.:D "
"Think Tank" was absolutely terrible. Take Blur, dump the ingenious guitar tricks, the humour and the sheer joy and you've got yourself the 2003 offering.
Hey, I suppose it's still better than Radiohead. That wouldn't be particularly difficult, though.
You know, I'm sorry to those who think differently, but I agree here. Think Tank never really did do much for me. It may just be me, but in their later stuff they seemed at times to "dumb down" the guitar and I hate that. I'm much more for a complicated lick than an effects box trick. For instance, I like Essex Dogs, but seeing live vids where Graham is bent over his effects for whole minutes KILLS me.
i think coxon's solo work is good but it lacks something. All the songs ove heard are kind of tounge in cheek and not very deep and that annoys me, maybe thats the blur fan coming out of me.
yeah well im nottalking about blur's commercial stuff like Parklife etc i assume you haven't listened to all of blurs albums because if you had you would know what i mean, try (BLUR,13 and THINK TANK!) btw beetlebum does have a deep meaning you obviously don't get it.....LOL
well there is obviously more to it than that! like i said anyway im on about album tracks on BLUR, 13 and THINK TANK. I was saying lol cause you did btw so ur now quoting youself? and why you afraid? Just listen to them albums!!

No, I'm sorry but what you said about most of Blur's lrics is total crap. If you bothered to actually listen to them you'd realise that Country House is about being stuck in the rat race and people's desire to get out ("caught in a rat race/ treminally ...caught up in the century's anxiety"), Song 2 is about being lost in yor own self contradictions ("I'm pins and I'm needles... all of the time I'm never sure why I need you/ pleased to meet you").
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Sorry about this, I ran out of space on the last message. Anyway, Beetlebum is actually about Damon Albarn's experiences of heroin ("nothing is wrong/ I just slip away and I'm gone"), Girls and Boys is an attack on uniformity and steroetypes ("like battery thinkers/ count your thoughts on one, two, three, four, five fingers") and Parklife is just about being British/ English and the shared experiences of being British, its meant to be just a banal description of an ordinary person's day.
Country house - how is writing a song about being caught in a rat race being "deep"?? there are millions of songs about that e.g. rock n roll star. Beetlebum - (already explained in another comment) Girls and boys - again not profound at all millions of songs about that. Song 2 - "woohoo".......enough said. Parklife - loads of songs written about that and it's in no way profound there just observations just like the kinks, small faces..etc
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
First of all it's pretty dumb to disiss sing 2 because it has a catchy chorus line. Secondly, what do you define as deep? If you want Kant set to music then you're going to be looking a long time but if on the other hand you want some observational songs (the fact that other people also made these observations in no way makes them less relevant) that actually bear up to lyrical analysis then Blur can provide you with that. And a song about the unfulfilling nature of capitalism is deep.
Actually you don't have the intelligence to realise that music is completely subjective. Also just because you've convinced yourself there's a deep meaning in an average pop song, in which even the writer of it has explained is not profound in any way, shows that if any one of us lacks intelligence it is you!!!! Which is why i'm not going to reply to your next post; in which you''ll try to be witty and fail miserably. p.s. my IQ is 129
Well I'm sure mummy is very proud of your IQ. But my main point was that Blur lyrics do stand up to attempts to get meaning out of them very well. And in fact, post-structuralist subjectivity is the keystone of my argument as I pointed out that meaning is there so long as you want to look for it. You however, cannot say that all meaning is subjective and then make the objective assertion that the lyrics are meaningless. And IQ results have never been 100% reliable indicators of intelligence.
I don't really think you can compare Graham's solo records to Blur, they're just very different, just as you can't compare Blur and Gorillaz in my opinion. But well, I'm not going to tell you to fuck you cause everyone's entitled to their own opinion I guess ;)
I don't care what anybody says, to me Graham is perfection! He's a brilliant guitarist. He has a unique quality to his voice, reminiscent of 70's punk rock.
well they might eventually. but good for them if they do. graham is one of the most influential indie guitarists on the scene.. some of his stuff is really complex

what does your IQ have to do with Blurs music having deep lyrics?
like i said before the ALBUM TRACKs (not singles or 'average pop songs') have a deep meaning that i think coxon's music lacks.
have you listened to blur,13 or think tank?
