One problem I see in american politics is that the candidates are so similar...the democratic and republican parties general stances are almost identical in most respects. The reps want tax cuts, the dems want smaller tax cuts. There's even less choice when you only focus on one party.
Obama and Clinton have been struggling to differenciate their positions, and what that leads to is personal attacks. They just have too much in common.

It's not even a scandal, it's a minor controversy. Hillary has been in the hot seat for weeks and McCain is still fighting off rumors of his involvement with a female lobbyist. It's not killing their campaigns. Most voters are smart enough to realize that Obama's pastor does not speak for him and the situation will blow over as Obama distances himself. 3 weeks may be an exaggeration it may take a few days. Either way it's nowhere near the scandal you want it to be.

I highly doubt Wright was preaching about 9/11 and defending Obama's Presidential campaign for 20 years. Preachers can tell a gentle message one day and an angry sermon the next or hold off on such sermons until something really ticks them off. I'm pretty confident that this will blow over. Obama's church itself was founded on Black Liberation Theology. That's not news (except to FOX). Some of Wright's statements that are circling in the media can be construed as unpatriotic. Obama has publicly denounced these comments he even has a video on his Youtube channel ("Obama Denounces Controversial Remarks) about them. Preaching BLT does not mean Obama would be used to some of the inflammatory remarks Wright has made that are being presented to the public.

That song was released 16 years ago. Common has actually contributed some positive messages such as the "Knowing is Beautiful" ads, encouraging youth to get tested for STDs. His music has been much more positive lately as well. This ofcourse has nothing to do with Obama's character and politics which influence mine and any sensible voter's perception of him as a viable candidate. Obama does very well at taking the high ground with these attacks so I look forward to his speech.

Obama isn't denouncing BLT, the theology the church itself was founded on. He's denouncing certain comments made by Wright. There's a distinct difference. If you insist that Wright has been teaching these same messages, circulating in the media, for 20 years and Obama has chosen to tolerate them go ahead and try to prove it. Obama knows what he is doing. He's going to squash this and get back on the important issues like the economy and ending the Iraq war.
