What happened to Dinwiddie? Think he died around 2002 and must have pushed 70. Was this old age? Gene was not in the top 6 musicians in the Butterfield band but only a place or two lower, which took some doing.
BUZZ FEITEN RULES!! I've always liked Buzzy for his greast melodic sense, and the abilty to go 'out' just enough to keep your attention just as things get to diatonic. I also like it that he seldoms plays millions of fast note unlike some of the other shredders up there. He's always in the service of the music, and let's not forget his Feiten Tuning System which helped improve the intonation of the guitar. This guiat he plays should be using his system.
@Dazlewis09 This is from a Japanese only release that you can find on the net or that famous auction site. The CD is "Buzz Feiten, Live with Brandon Fields" it is a great CD (as is all Buzz stuff is) and this video came on the CD. Video wise it only has this song on it, hopefully Buzz will release the whole show on video. Also get "The New Full Moon" which is a great cd also.
@ottolight i also think that that time of making music like he did with neil larsen on jungle fever, high gear and larsen/feitenband will never come back....those albums are just great and never bore me.
Buzz is playing at The Cotton Club Tokyo in June with one hell of a band .. incl Brandon , JT and a rhythm section that sounds wonderful ... bassist studied with James Jamerson ... his name is JV Collier .
It nice to see I'm not the only person in the whole world that thinks that these guys were/ are amazing..Full Moon knocked me out when I was a kid, it still does. I saw Larsen / Feiten when they were around. I just think they have a very basic groove that's very complimentary and unique
It's good to hear from these guys again. I had lost touch. Sitarnut, what Stevie were you speaking of? I still love the Full Moon LP with Malibu being the best track on it
Yes, the first Full Moon album is an absolute classic, probably the best unknown record ever made. I like 'em all but Midnight Pass is probably my favorite.
Sounds like his guitar's in tune...lol no seriously did he invent the tuning system or what. Cuz i just got a Suhr guitar with the system and it's awewsome.
He certainly did. Buzz Feiten is one of those musicians who never caught the public's attention, but mention his name to anyone of the calibre of Robben Ford, Larry Carlton, Michael Landau, and even unlikely players like Vai and Satriani, and they all know precisely who he is, not just because they've endorsed his tuning system, but because they've been knocked out by his playing. Stevie Wonder rarely used guitarists but on Talking Book there are two: Jeff Beck and Buzz Feiten.
Dude- right on, so few bother to look at their liner notes on those Stevie LPs.... and all that stuff he recorded with Stevie was so killer and first takes as well... we're still playing Malibu in our band..... great performer and gurtarist indeed
Now there's an understatement! There may be a few guitarists in the world who can match him at lead: there may even be a few who can match him at rhythm. But how many can match him on both? We need more Buzz!
alright universe I lived 3 houses away from the buzz in my youth. I recorded him on my panasonic reel to reel my dad gave me with his high school band 'the reasons why'. The band was known in town as the 'grapes of wrath' but they were to do a local radio show and they got called on copyright.
after all these years, the most gifted and transpirational player i know of. I wish there were more videos of Full Moon and Larson Feiten band to be found.
That is the tastiest player on the planet ! Hotter than a jalapeno more nourishing than a bowl of porrige , VIVA BUZZ !
Life affirming stuff .. what a groove .
We can apparently expect a DVD in whiich Buzz discusses his technique on release soon through Cherry lane Music publishing . In the mean time everyone should go and get this album with Brandon - its a total groove .. great keyboard player too .. good choice .
Buzz Feiten still cookin',great soulful player, the first recordings I heard was with Paul Butterfield and later Neil Larson, I think it was "High Gear" that album was very inspired full of fine compositions even included Michael Brecker on a tune called "Demonette" the guitarwork was so tasty very Bluesy and adventurous, in my opinion a very underrated player at least in Europe, a great channel fora great musician, greetings Vic.
Brandon Fields. Brandon played with Buzz in Dave Weckels band a few years back and on Buzz's album, The New Full Moon a few years ago, which is a great album incidently.
@ottolight - That would be Synergy and Rythm of the Soul
But better yet, get "The New Full Moon" and "Buzz Feiten featuring Brandon Fields"
Better music me thinks. The only reason to listen to the Weckl stuff wa to hear Buzz Play. I shaw Weckl's band with Buzz 5 night in a row, and the only thing that varied was Buzz's solos. Weckl even said the same things between songs. A bit like a machine and no soul.
1n 1972, I was walkin' down Bleecker St. and as I passed the old Cafe`au Go Go some guy came out and waived the cover charge and offered a free drink to passersby to get a crowd inside to see some group called "1984". So, I go in, get a rum sour, sit down, and these guys come on stage. To my astonishment, out walks Phillip Wilson, Gene Dinwiddie and BUZZ FEITEN! Turns out it was "Full Moon" !!!
Remember clearly "Heavy Scuffles on", they were Killer !!
Well, I wish I would have seen that show. There are live recordings around of the original Full Moon band which are great, but no video so far as I know. That first Full Moon album on Douglas is a Desert Island Classics, as they say.
For many years, Buzz used a custom guitar by John Carruthers. He is currently using a very similar custom guitar by Kenny Bevins of Westchester Music in Los Angeles.
Hey Buzz, I first saw you at the Golden Bear in 1968-69 with Butter. I was disappointed that Elvin B had left by then. But you didn't disappoint at all. The band cooked that night! Trouble is you guys made 45 minutes go by like a few seconds. Couldn't get enough of it. I met Gene in the back alley with the other guys. You're right, he was a gracious fellow. They all had girls with them so I didn't stay long. Glad you wrote this for him. If this is your new stuff I love it!
Outstanding! Fantastic solos all around ... Feiten as usual gives his very best ... this was obviously from a concert performance ... please ... is there more? Also please check out the Wikipedia entry for Buzz Feiten now ... as a childhood friend and someone who has followed his career, I have added a lot to it.
John,as a fellow "local",thanks for your contributions,Buzz is still the best.I went to school with your bro and was friends with Buzzys brother John(sadly no longer with us)I saw him with "The Reasons Why"when he was still playing bass and french horn!
What terrific footage and sound quality! A great performance by the superlative and unique Buzz and his band. Where's it from? Is there more? Thanks FF!
This is the "enhanced" track from Buz's new cd called Buz Feiten with Brandon Fields. A live album recorded at MI in LA as above. At present have to order from Japan. Support Buzz and buy it and maybe he will release the whole show on DVD. Most of Buzz's releases in the last 10 years are only available from Japan. At least the Japanese know real talent when they hear it. Thanks to them, there is some new Buzz
Just wait 'till you hear the version of Danger Zone from Buzz's new album . Its phenomenal and entirely fresh .. phenomenal guitar playing .. light & shade , whole band is rocking & blowing like a hurricane .
What pure and utter joy to see Buzz looking and sounding so fabulous .This band is rocking and having fun .. Brandon is magnificent as ever , great keyboards too , tight rhythm section and Buzz is stellar as always .. floating like a butterfly & stinging like a king bee . Welcome back Buzz , please can we have footage of the entire show on DVD ? I'm looking forward to hearing the whole album which music lovers everywhere should rush out and buy immediately .
Whenever I feel like shit, I blare this at maximum volume in the car. Instant therapy.
