black people are just the original people and we historically didn't care about color because we knew that we produced all kinds of color. My wiife & I have 3 shades of black in our 4 children. The source of this confusion is really other races that are monotinous and they want everyone else to look like them and we can't continue to follow these people's views
There is NO SUCH THING AS PURE BLOOD ANY MORE! this woman has a mixture in her blood with someone who is lighter. She may not know who, since most american dont even want to recognize that. Once you are african american you are mixed with something eles. Point blank. People want to come up with their own history and say look i'm black and light skinned with no mix, bull shit! Especially americans. a lot are mixed with aboriginal, white (caucasion), asian, spanish and the likes.
To ismaithleat Are you stupid or just unaware? Just because a Black person has a very light skin doesn't make them biracial! Idiot! A part of my family is from East Africa and many of us have sharp features like White people, but we are 100% Black! How do you know that she has more European blood than the average Black American? Skin isn't always an indicator of more European ancestry! There are many light-skinned Africans who are light-skinned, but have no European blood! O.K.!!!
@amasonga I totally agree with you. People forget that their are bi-racial dark skin people and looking at their features you can tell that they are mixed. On the contrary their are light skin people who have more negroid features than the dark skin bi-racial person. People assume that the light skin person is mixed because of their complexion.
PEOPLE ARE JUDGING THIS WOMAN BY HER COMPLEXION. YOU CANNOT JUDGE BLACK PEOPLE BY COMPLEXION BECAUSE WE HAVE ALL COMPLEXIONS IN OUR RACE. ANYBODY THAT LOOKS AT THIS WOMAN'S CHILD WITHOUT JUDGING HER BY HER COMPLEXION CAN SEE THAT SHE DAMN NEAR LOOKS EXACTLY LIKE HER MOTHER. SO DOES THE CHILD HAVE 50% WHITE IN HER TOO BECAUSE SHE LOOKS LIKE HER MOTHER ? IF YOU PUT A BUNCH OF BLACK PEOPLE IN A ROOM I GUARANTEE YOU WE WILL NOT ALL LOOK LIKE WESLEY SNIPES OR MORGAN FREEMAN. THIS WOMAN IS BLACK
THIS WOMAN IN THIS VIDEO DOES NOT HAVE EUROPEAN FEATURES.I HAVE SEEN AFRICANS THAT LOOK JUST LIKE HER WITH DARK SKIN.LIGHT SKIN DOES NOT MEAN YOU HAVE EUROPEAN ANCESTRY.AFRICANS COME IN DIFFERENT COMPLEXIONS, FEATURES & HAIR TEXTURES. PEOPLE THAT SAY THAT THIS WOMAN IS MIXED RACED WANT HER TO BE MIXED RACE.MY DAD HAS A DARK BROWN COMPLEXION AND MY MOTHER IS DARK SKIN BUT I CAME OUT LIGHT SKIN SO DOES THAT MAKE ME MIXED TOO BECAUSE I AM LIGHT SKINNED ? NOT ALL BLACK PEOPLE LOOK LIKE WESLEY SNIPES
Very thought-provoking! I can really relate to Anisa and India, but on the flip-side. I am a white appearing Black woman and my mother is darker than me. We've had one bizarre reaction after another, related to us being mother & daughter. One time, in an NYC restaurant, the White waitress tried to ignore my mother and address me even though I was only 10 yrs old.Another person even referred to my mother as 'mammy'. Colorism is vicious and cruel and ignores our common humanity. :-(
why the fuck do people talk about skin colour when they talk about race. a black man can have white skin. i think people need to focus on the life that is passed on from father to son. cannot separate skin colour from the spirit. mixed race kids can have white spirit with black skin or black spirit with white skin like michael jackson. so fuck everyone! the world judges anyone with black skin or black features as black but they ignore the spirit inside even if the father is white. SHYTAN!

@AtlantaSistah ah now..of course the mother is closer to being 50% white than she is 100% black, judging from her features and colour she has more european heritage than the average black american....does it matter that much anyway? lol
@ismaithleat Let me ask you a question. Are you stupid or just unaware? There are plenty of people in East Africa, where a part of my family ails from, who have very sharp features like what you call White people. You cannot always tell if somebody is 50% White or not. I'm dark-skinned with facial features similar to that of Whites! How do you know she ahs more European heritage? My mother is almost just as light, but she's African! You're an idiot! LOL! Blackness is diversity! Fuck racism!
Actual it does. Anesa would have to have a white ancestor somewhere in her family tree. black people just don't come out light skinned for no reason. Her daughter is darker because she shares the fathers genes and her mother's genes. Think about. The lighter gene is more recessive. Anesa could have 2 or 3 more kids and maybe 1 might come out light. My boyfriends sister has 3 kids same guy, 1 is really dark and the last 2 are light skinned.
@reuven2007 thats ignorant dudey, black people can be as light as the sun.....get educated...u saying black people should be only DEEP DARK BLACK as darkness...
bi-racial no. Both her parent can be dark and she still be light. Black people are the most mixed of all races. She just happened to show the recessive white gene that exists in her family. That should be common knowledge by now. But people still think that black people can have light skin without there be a white or lighter skinned ancestor. NOT gonna happen.
@reuven2007 I have lived around North, East, West, and South AFRICANS all my life and i could never, never distinguish physically between them. I have meet people from Uganda who resemble what you call "biracial people" who have very light brown soft curly hair long bridged noises and are very, very fair skinned to the point where they resemble white folks w w/tans and yet you would see there brothers or sister dark as can be. So acquire more knowledge before you spew your ignorance!
Dark skin helps protect against skin cancer that develops as a result of ultraviolent light radiation, causing mutations in the skin. Dark skin prevents an essential B vitamin, folate, from being destroyed. White Australians have some of the highest rates of skin cancer as evidence of this expectation. Studies have shown that black people tend to recover faster from injury that other races. Higher levels of melanin also mean more natural strength.
i dont know how people could ask u if thats your daughter cause u guys look EXACTLY alike. people r so ignorant to assume u cant be related b/c of skin tone
the mother and the daughter have the exact same eyes, nose, lips and cheek bones. HOW CAN PEOPLE BE SO BLIND NOT TO SEE THAT? i've seen black and asian cousins share the same resemblance!
they don't look like mother and daughter but, nobody should be telling them something that they obliviously already know. if a woman tells them that they can say you look more like your dad than you do a woman. if a man says they don't look like mother and daughter they should reply you look more like your mother than you do a man. they say you haven't seen my parents you reply, don't have to it's oblivious. look at the feminine features in your face.
People would say the same thing when I was with my dad. It just silly logic. I'll never forget this wht girl asked me if I wanted to see her baby. I was like sure. That baby was dark with straight wavy red hair. We really need to stop the maddness. There a million ways genes can line up. It's really like a flip of the coin. Like my mom said, "ppl never look at the features." I look just like my dad.
I think this whole colorist issue is so sad and sickening at the same time. To be honest, I highly doubt it will ever go away based on MY life experiences while living and growing up in New York as a person of African descent. Our image as people is becoming more negative everyday especially with the ignorance that is showcased on the shows of TYRA BANKS and DAVE CHAPELLE. Living in New York, there is so much disrespect amongst black folks solely based on NATIONALITY. You are constantly asked
Okay, colorism is a state of mind and focus. Black people reinforce colorism more than whites. I think that it had to do more with lighter skinned people getting preferential treatment in the past which led to better education and economic circumstances. Now however, there are more opportunities regardless of color. Colorism is more of a myth nowadays but it's black people who insist on keeping up these negative and regressive attitudes. Getting a real education can eliminate the madness.
The daughter has a slightly larger nose than the mother and her face is shaped slightly different and of course the color issue, but this kid looks SOOO much like her mother it's .
Why is it that many black women have an issue with colorism and beauty, but many black men do not? I'm a dark skinned black man and I've never really had a problem getting a female due to my skin tone. However, this is a concern for many black women. Could you please provide me with some insight on the matter?
The reason that it's more of an issue with black women is because nobody really cares about the skin color of a black man. A black man's attractiveness is not determined by the shade of his skin but a black woman, for the most part, is usually seen as beautiful depending on her skin color.
Light has been acquainted with white and white has always been acquainted with what ppl perceived as pretty. Some men embraced that and chose women based on their skin tone..sucks really.
The reason is b/c society places more signifigence of a woman's looks than a man's. Go to East/Southeast Asia, South Asia, Arabia/Middle East, Latin America/Caribbean, North & Sub-Shara Africa and you'll seee the same colorism. It's not just AA women. And in most countries darker men and fairer/lighter women are preferred so yes you indeifference to black women's struggles with color makes more sense than you think.
@svaughn4 Even though it may affect both sexes, Any issue (skin color, weight, eating disorders) that has to do with the outward appearance or beauty seems to have more of an impact on women...that why it seems like that :-) Hope that helps...
I know exactly was this mother and daughter are talking about. Im light skinned and my mother is dark skinned. When I was little no one believed that my mom was my mom. People assumed that I was part white which Im not. It was annoying to deal with constantly. I think that's one thing that makes black women so fly, that we come in so many different shades and tones.
@KKS685 LOl it aint only black with this stupidity colourism, indian people look down on dark skinned indians, white people see Blonde & blue/ green eyes as more beautiful and worthy than dark hair , and brown or black eyes thanx to that b***** hitler...why do u think every white people are dying their hair fake blond & getting blue eye contact....so ya racism will always exist for yrs too come, coz people are too dang stupid....
i know about this my sister is really light and i'm dark and some people find it hard to believe we're related even though all of us in the family look alike. another time this cashier said me and my friend look alike just because we were both dark when we don't look anything alike!
Well, many of us do accept our own selves. But we do have some that need to be addressed. Yeah, we got issues, but do know we are not the only ones. Everyone has problems. Not making excuses, telling the truth. As for so called other races accepting us, who knows. What I do know is that we got to keep striving regardless. I'm not looking to the other man for acceptance.
There is a lot of us who don't accept ourselves, that is why our sistas have european hair whether thru relaxer and/or weaves ect. I'm not concerned with issues of another race.
In my experience, there are some of us who don't accept themselves. There are many of us that do. Weaves and relaxers don't prove to me one way or the other. You say you are not concerned about the issues of other communities, yet you are concerned about the acceptance of other communities. Interesting ...
thtaz a real messed up, nasty mentallity to have!!!!!yea, she might have been more expected 2 have a combination color , but WHO CAREZ??????? luv has no color!!
and this uninformed white girl was trying to say that my brother and I (he was still light then) couldn't be related to our sister who's much lighter than us because we were a little darker than she is.
I can so relate to this. Thank you Anesa for letting folks know that high yellow people get discriminated against, too. In school, two girls told me the same thing that I probably don't experience as much racism as they do because I'm light-skinned. LOL. My siblings and I were about the same color, (I say were because my brother likes to surf so he's no longer light-skinned)...
Its sad... my mom is India's color and when I was little my mom said two old white ladies was like " on my gosh, this little baby is lost" my mom said she snapped and had to snatch me away from them, lol. I think its such a waste of peoples time to focus on color when its false, unjustified discrimination. I very glad I don't get consumed in the ignorance and focus on real issues; racism is an issue, however I have surpassed its ignorance. Racism will always exist, especially in america.
LOL, it's funny because the shades are switched between my daughter and I. The shenanigans began right in the delivery room, with the doctor saying to my mother ( whom she was friends with, but still) Wait, wait...what's up with this white baby? It continued with people staring me down when I had her out in public, asking if I was "the help", etc. She is definitely more brown now as a teenager and our resemblance much more apparent, but some people are just ignorant as hell.
this colorism thing is soooo real. My mother was as light as the lady in the vid, my dad was a very dark man. I came out medium brown, my sister is light, my brother came out dark like my dad, and he has always had a stigma...we had to drag him to take family portraits. People have asked us before if we have different parents, ....eeeven though if they look close we really look just a like..Girl this just mess...Good to see you back.
People try to tell me that I am not black all the time, and it is very annoying. I had a Mexican woman stare me down, that my daughter's dad had to be white, because she was so light...this kind of stuff gets on my nerves.
LOL I'm from New York and I'm light skinned but my father is dark skinned, but I have a white mother so I guess that's why I'm so light

Peace and Blessings Zoe

"Your daughter had that dark baby. "
That's so fucked up.

People try to tell me that I am not black all the time, and it is very annoying. I had a Mexican woman stare me down, that my daughter's dad had to be white, because she was so light...this kind of stuff gets on my nerves.

One of these days, we have to breaak the cycle of this ignorance. How can we blame the white man for colorism if we continue to do it to ourselves????
We have to realize we aren't Mr Peabody and have a wayback machine to change the past. We have to move on from it.
BTW you are right at 2:10
PS Mrs Winners is off da chain lol!!!!
