  • thats one of the most awesome guitar sounds i've ever heard. Does anybody now what kind of guitar it is?

  • @Jkguitar96 Tommy plays Maton guitars

  • lol do you know what this is called a pull off and a hammer on - isn't that like basic stuff you always use ? XD

  • 1080p

    720p

    Apple's 80's Advertisments

    This video

    Great vid though XD

  • Tommy 's a patronising cunt but he's briliant. Nonetheless he's a cunt.

  • I'm amazed at how fast the other guitarist got this stuff with clean tone.

  • 2:33- is a big joke :D

  • Tommy, stop with the jokes. They're crap, yet I'm shitting myself with laughter.

  • what an idiot

  • Will someone write the joke Tommy is saying down? 1:21

Im danish so i cant hear what he says, but it sounded like a good joke :-)

  • @DanskeSange what do you get when your throw a piano down a mine shaft. You get a flat minor.

  • @jdlow77 Thanks ! :-)

  • @jdlow77

    and for the joke 3.10 ? i'm french ;)

  • @themadworld A guy raced into the doctor and said: "Help Help!" "I'm shrinking!" The doctor said: "That's all right, you'll just have to be a little patient"

  • lol look the caption, xD Is funnier that TE

  • ahh what a pleasent racist

  • Awesome person as well as an awesome guitarist?

    Wow.

  • LoL and his cheezy jokes.

  • How amazing would it be to get a lesson from tommy?!

Also, was this set up? Because if he is learning that from tommy it's amazing

  • Lol I like the laugh at 1.32/ 1.33

  • My god this is amazing shit!!!!

  • about the joke "land of good currys" the indian laughed at it

  • wtf m8 its called a joke

  • let me guess razz you are an Aussie

  • Maybe, then again maybe I am black....but does that count me out as being an Aussie? Maybe I am Pakistani! I could live next door to you, I would be fine with that and your opinion. Could you live next door to me? I am Danish, irish, Scottish decent. Am I a mungrel? Have I no heritage? I don' t care about the past I live for now and the future. In a couple of generations in this country everyone will be equal. Will that be the case in countries so governed by their heritage?

  • got a problem with aussies?

  • how is that racist?? you idiots will never get it. Why is it in Australia race is the first and only thing an Aussie will see, and then they make jokes about it. typical Aussie humor, if he is going to comment on on his background why not mention something relevant like the classical Raga system. It is after all one of the most respected musical traditions in the world but i would guess tommy is unfamiliar with the system, pretty ignorant for a musician Typicalfor an Aussie.

  • Land of good curries! What the hell is wrong with saying that?

And Mrfornsworth "Famous for being racist" and being racist is vastly different. Ask a Jew from the 2nd world war what a racist really is, as you have no idea.

  • 'Land of Curry' - I thought he was talking about England! :o) In 1976 Patel replaced Smith as the most common surname here and curry is offically the most popular dish among white Brits. I know, I'm one and I'm no rascist!

  • I don't know where you got that from because Patel is around the 40th most common surname in Britain. The most common are; Smith, Jones, Williams, Brown, Taylor etc. I'm pretty sure Patel is the most common surname not from Anglo-Saxon or Celtic origin.

  • Well robbie , iIlive in Australia and can tell you they are famous for being racist and having no culture. Your just another jack ass who doesnt know what you are talking about.

  • mrfornsworth ur a moron. Ive met loads of australians and even lived with sum for a wile and der sum of da nicest ppl ive eva met

  • He is a moron "the land of curry" A typical aussie Idiot. But their is a kind of poetic justice in all this, he Is one of the best australia has got which isnt saying much for Aussie culture

  • *Sigh*.. lighten the fuck up. It's all in good fun..

  • Actually "The land of good curry" He comes from India and I love Indian food! Unfortunately the chap wasn't Italian, Imagine Tommy saying "Angelo comes from a land of Good Pasta!" Italy I love Italian food! God forbid what a fuckin' racist he would be. Or Nicko from a land of good Gyros! even worse! you are blinded by your own inferior complex. If you want to get serious, who started with the insults here? Of course you didn't hear that did you. because it isn't what you want to hear!

  • a flat minor, lmao

  • how long ago was this filmed? You really wouldn't get away with blatant racism like that nowadays...

  • After 9/11 you can barely LOOK at a black person without getting racism thrown in your face.. : p

  • what has 9/11 got to do with black people?

And also if anything 9/11 has increased racism to arabian people, especially the islamic...

The point is making "curry" jokes to an asian guy just isn't funny...

  • A sense of humor is a flavor you can't afford to drop when dealing with this kind of music - it either will become boring, reflecting how bored you are, or you'll have to play something else.

  • To add, i see nothing racist or insulting about it, if you disagree, you need to look and see that both guys are simply having fun. I play guitar a bit myself, Tony's lesson was very helpful just to know how he plays this. I don't see anything wrong with a few jokes thown in.

  • Muahahahaaaa!! A flat Miner! :-)

  • i have the full version ..thats funny

  • 3.25/3.27....lol

  • Yes tommy, all indians are restaurant owners, just like all australians are criminals...

  • cheesy humor...i love it

  • yeah he is corny but we can forgive him for that :D

  • Wow, he is so corny. :P

  • half the videos on youtube I can't access anymore including this one says "video is no longer available" wtf is wrong with youtube

  • just refresh the page and it fixes it, it happens to me sometimes

  • A guy walks into a psychiatrist's wearing cling-film underpants, and the shrink says "well I can clearly see your nuts"

well if it's ok for Tommy....

  • how the fuck do u learn it in like 6 minutes

  • I'm pretty sure he forgot the song pretty fast, if you'd ask him to play it from the beginning he wouldn't be able to do it.

    Repetition ftw.

  • haha true but it must take many years to just repeat something liek that on the spot... at the moment im trying to transcribe songs and its taking me ages!

  • Amen, vipers60

    Repetition ftw.

  • a flat miner...that cracks me up!

  • o geez... tommy cracking jokes... he guitar is better than his jokes...lol

  • without a doubt...

  • tbh his pretty funny guy :P at least he has humor

  • o geez... tommy cracking jokes... he guitar is better than his jokes...lol

  • i liked it when he turned into a comedian

  • i fell off my chair laughing when he started tellin jokes

  • ha ha ha ha ha that is hilarious.

  • I love how he stopped teaching and suddenly turned into a stage comedian haha.

  • Lol it cracked me up

  • Amazing guitar player but he's still such an old bastard!

funny laugh too, I love the bit when he laughs about his 'dog joke' right after saying it.

  • cold joke king :P

  • love your music, love your work! i will surely subscribe

    5 star*****

    With Respect~~

    JESSE

  • you are ridiculous mogofou

    jajaja

    vamos boca carajo NAno

  • because we can find it very ridiculous

  • that was a joke ! everybody say i love xxxx food when they meet foreigners people, he was laughing at them ^^

  • thing about racism is some people dont know how to laugh about themselves,You could take anything like "speccy twat" or "fat bastard" and make a law against it i for one am proud to be white are you proud of what you are?

  • What I don't understand is that the Indian guy is obviously a great guitarist so why is Tommy walking through it- I suppose it's just a show. Tommy should lay off the jokes though he's a better guitarist thancomedian and that's an understatement

  • How is that racist? It wouldn't be racist if he say to an Englishman the he liked fish and chips would it??

  • I don't really think he is meaning to be racist but he is sounding it.... If i said anything about curries to a indian descent they would label me as racist the way there are many racist people today saying ''bing bong popadom'' mockingly.

anyway he did slag TE playing xD

  • man im Australian and im indian and i dont find that the least bit racist. i thought it was a clever snappy rebutle to Harsha's scathing remark about the quality of TM's rendition of classical gas.

  • haha :D tommy emmanuels.. Mindfreak <3

  • Did not spot anything racist in this video

  • such a good bloke

  • get anything but a taylor. good video.

  • does anybody know what kind of taylor the indian guy is using?

  • Great vid!

  • sweet

  • lol at 2:27...'and then you go' several tones jajaja

  • He'd be a great teacher. Very self-effacing and real guy. Nice to see such a gifted player so ego-free these days. Thanks for posting it. Great jokes as well :))

  • i am so proud to be aussie right now

  • ...can you take a joke, he's just having a little fun with the guy. i said i was proud to be aussie but also what im proud of is being able to make fun of myself or not care when people make fun of me. He 's a really awesome guy... i know because he teaches me guitar, but seriously, lighten up

  • have a fuckin sook larrylucille he was havin a little fun u dont need 2 pull the whole "oh lets all b nice 2 the curry muncher" card and fuck you for saying that about a musical ledgend

  • haha thats also a good way of putting it

  • up your ass?

  • Ah man you might really say you've got a great sense of humor.

    How sad...

  • Ehh is it rude to say that the Indian food is good?

  • no,is just a bullshit.

  • Aussies always speak their mind, and they are not ham-strung with political correctness like we are in the U.K and in the U.S.

    Its a cultural thing.

  • TE is eaxcellent, his songs and stage presence are just top notch.

  • craftsmen should stick to what there good at, e.g. guitar, not jokes

  • Have you not seen the video where he spends about 5 minutes telling jokes? It's hilarious.

  • what is the chord after the A diminished on the walkup to the A minor on the 5th fret?

  • I think shift the A diminished (played 5-4-5) up by 2 frets (7-6-7) B diminished with E note bass :/

  • that guy is soo gay the radio presenter

  • I've heard those jokes sooo many times, but it was still soooo funny. I have to say, best performer in music.

  • wow, that indian guy picks up pretty well...

-definately better than me, that is, lol

...there might be a possibility that it has something to do with my hearing eh...

  • Tommy is an abolute genius, most amazing guitarist Ive ever seen, period.

  • they guitar playing is much more better than their jokes

  • very true

  • What is it with guitar afficionados? They are such snobbish, prudish, up their own arses kind of people some of them....get a life and enjoy music...why shouldn't he laugh? What if he is showing off? I believe Paganini was a right show off, and Mozart too.

  • The jokes are sooooo old but the way he tells them makes it hilarious somehow... Tommy's one funny guy!

  • I think Tommy is great, it's just that people either don't know him or has just seen the clip out of the context. Have a open mind people! Relax!

  • You shouldn't take the jokes too seriously. Like when your Dad will tell a joke, (from my father: The cemetery is the most popular place in town. People are dying to get in there), its funny not because of the joke, but because the joke is so bad.

  • zzzzzz Scissor Sisters FTW !

  • You people obviously dont appreciate australian humour. It was said in a completly non threatening way. I dont understand what you're complaining about.

  • Search for Woodsongs site and go to the archives. You can download it from there free. There are two great shows with Tommy. One is 245 and the other 349.

  • what dvd is this from??

  • Yeah He's a #1 and he's funny too...

  • Whoowh, dudes..Most of you don't know tommy emmanuel??, If you jsut listen too even, 1 song I bet you'll think he's fantastic... I think tommy is even one of the best Accoustic guitar players ever..and you should just listen to one or 2 things of his, and then come back and say what uoi think of him then;)

  • You may or may not know this, but Tommy Emmanuel is actually the best guitar player in the world.

  • Cheesy Jokes, but a good lesson!

  • response to jasonwaite2:

After seeing Tommy Emmanuel play many times, it would be ridiculous to suggest that he could not play classical gas "as Written if he wanted to.

You claim that music is about expression. Exactly! When people watch Tommy they enjoy what he is expressing through the music. No one really gives a rats ass if he took lessons!

  • i think its funny i mean with mentions of mozart. See why mozart is considered so talented is because 250 yearfs later its still relevant peopla are itll playing it and enjoying it. Now of course someone is going to say oh well TE stuff will last forever but the truth is we wont know will we. there were alot of compsoers im sure who had 10-20 years of fame or even fame during their lifetime and didnt last after they were dead

  • wow, i don't understand why people get their shorts up in a bunch over this video. I put it up because I thought you could learn it, and you can, if you don't mind the corny jokes. But I didn't think he was being racist. If you're offended then maybe I'll remove the video.

  • do not remove it tommy is great

  • I just lost all respect for the man. I'm middle eastern and I don't appreciate this.

  • wtf are u on a about? ... wqhy is this offensive?

  • You are a whiny pussy.

  • first teach me how to play it!than we gonna paint the town red,get drunk, whatever, fuck i hate this kind of teaching.SHOW ME HOW TO PLAY THE FUCKING SONG.

  • americans shouldnt judge australian humor, clearly the indian guy wasnt upset, infact he seems to be having the time of his life

  • some of tommy's curry jokes were a little off, but i think he meant them without mean spirit. he was being a showman true - that's what he is - but why not, would you have preferred he sat there and gave the ins and outs of boring technique to the audience, who may not even play guitar?

  • hes not a student of tommys hes a guitar player from that radio show, and tommy happens to be the best gutiar player around, and i think youll find hes hardly making fun of the guys "ethnic backround" tommys far from racist, hes simply jokeing around with the guy

  • not impressed by this guy. He's a show-off, he's not funny, he's not that talented, and there are way better versions of the song on youtube.

  • "he's not that talented", that's like saying Tiger Woods is an okay golfer. If Stevie Vai says Tommy's the best, that's good enough for me.

  • I know TE is respected as a great fingerpicker. But I don't respect making fun of a student's ethnic background, not appreciating how quick and talented his student was, and playing a version of Classical Gas that was an approximation of the song. Chet Atkins -- a true Tiger Woods of the guitar world -- thought TE was a fine guitarist, but doesn't mean that TE's Classical Gas amounts to anything. Anyway, I don't need Vai or Atkins to tell me what to think.

  • Where did he make fun of his ethnic background? He obviously didn't take any offense to the "curry" gag. People dig at English folk for fish & chips but do I look that bothered? If you watch the entire show, these guys shake hands afterwards and the presenter congratulates Harsha for being a great sport. This segment of the radio show was intended for entertainment only (why do you think they didn't bother with the entire song?)

  • i'm Indian myself and didn't see any comment by TE that was offensive. You confuse me here..TE said he loves Indian food, that sounds like a compliment to the culture not an offense.

  • Ethnically, I'm from the Indian subcontient, and I didn't find it offensive. To me, it came across as making fun of the stereotypes people have about South Asia, rather than perpetuating them.

  • To mysg67 ... "Show-off"? "Not that talented"? Are you serious? And since when is it a political correctness crime to like a curry and mention someone's country?

  • not.. that.. talented? no offense but you're either tone deaf or blind :) There's a lot of players out there I don't particularly like but I know some still have talent regardless of whether I like them or not.

  • lame jokes but good player

  • some here say tommy just plays for show, and he shows everyone that he is better and so. But I think that he is so f***ing good that he can do it. cause the music he plays is great and extremely hard to play. so I think it's allowed for him to show that, that he's so good...

  • Extremely funny and awesome to watch. Tommy has a very vibrant personality.

  • racist...

  • To the above argument, you have to remember that the only songs Tommy plays "as the composer intended" are the ones he writes himself, and no bad thing!

Fantastic job as always from TE.

  • i don't get the joke about the doctor, great guitar player anyway

  • It's a pun. A patient is someone who goes to a doctor's office. It also describes someone who is able to wait. The patient says he is shrinking, and the doctor says "you'll have to be a little patient."

  • Tommy is definetly awesome. One of the best guitarists of today. And yeah, the video's meant for entertainment. Jason, your attitude towards other musicians isn't very respectable. Besides, what's great about experssion that isn't fun (in this case fun means enjoyable)? Expression is important, but without anything fun with it,it may sound like no expression at all.

  • Love how he plays. the man got skills.

  • The way you play Classical Gas is nothing period.

  • You act as if classical gas is a classical masterpiece or a work of compositional genius. Perhaps if I pointed out that classical gas contains disrespectful things such as parallel fifths, you would reject the song as a worthless mediocrity.

  • You act as if classical gas is a classical masterpiece or a work of compositional genius. Perhaps if I pointed out that classical gas contains disrespectful things such as parallel fifths, you would reject the song as a worthless mediocrity.

  • This is not teaching. Your :student" does not have your playing talent and will not be able to "mimic" you. This is a silly video used to show off.

  • You are right, this isn't teaching, it was a segment on a 1 hour radio show. It was meant for entertainment not a serious guitar lesson. I have one of Tommy's "teaching" video's, I've learned alot from it, again, in this style of music, he's not only a gifted musician, but a good teacher as well.

  • Lessons didn't hurt Mozart or anyone. To play the same notes does not mean one has to mimic. There is more to it than that. Parkening is high above TE and Segovia (if he were alive) is high above Parkening.Music can be fun but that is not the end goal. The end goal is expression. But expression doesn't mean to apply corny and cliche variations and incongruent tangents at the end of each phrase.

  • Yes I agree lessons didn't hurt Mozart or anyone. And I mentioned Parkening and Segovia and Tommy not to compare them, just the opposite, to say they are playing different types of music, and it's not fair to compare them. You're right, music is expression, and there are all types of expression aren't there? Is one better than all others?

  • Tommy I do not like your approach to the guitar and your teaching method is ridiculous. You have a lot of natural musical talent but you should have studied classical guitar and learned to have more respect for it. You play for show, but I am not impressed.

  • Well, of course you're entitled to your opinion. But I'd rather spend 10 minutes with Tommy Emmanuel, than a lifetime with some teachers. You can tell with Tommy, it's all about the music, playing it not reading it. He may not have the most "proper" technique in the world, but when he plays a note, he means it. Every note counts, and there are few players like that. I think he has a lot of respect for the guitar, he's only been playing it since he was 4 years old.

  • Playing since 4 is not a good thing, it's probably the reason he plays this way. Flatpicking is different. Lets have him play Classical Gas as written with no nonsense.

  • Okay, I think this is an interesting discussion. Saying that playing since 4 is not a good thing is like saying Mozart shouldn't have mastered his first piece of music at the age of 5 within 30 minutes. I consider Tommy to be on the same level of musical genius as Mozart. Someone who has a gift of God.

  • pt 2.

He can't help the way he plays, he just does it. For him to have taken lessons might have stunted his ability. He could play Classical Gas the way it was written, but then, he'd be like everyone else, mimicing instead of creating. Not to say that that's a bad thing. I enjoy listening to Parkening as much as Tommy, Ed Gerhard, Joe Pass, Segovia, the list goes on. The thing about Tommy that I enjoy so much is that he makes music fun, and isn't music supposed to be fun?

  • You obviously know very little about Mozart and less about musical genius. All good things come from God. If you read bio's of Mozart and his legacy you will not be so quick to put TE in that league. Mozart took lessons.

  • Well, I'll agree I know little about Mozart. But I didn't say he didn't take lessons. I know his father trained him rigorously. I just said that he could master a complex piece of music from a very young age, he was gifted. The point was that true genius shows itself whether or not one has lessons. I don't know if TE was like that, but he was obviously motivated from a very young age also.

  • And that's not to say TE didn't take lesson, he just didn't take "classical" lessons. Maybe that genre of music just didn't interest him.

  • Jason, it is attitudes like your own that stagnate musical innovation and delopement. Whether you care to admit it, you would have rejected Segovia and denounced his innovations for the guitar, claiming that the guitar is not a real classical instrument.

  • If you say tommy plays for show, I can only imagine that you haven't seen much of his music or performances. It is you who has a lack of respect.

  • HAHA... tell you what, why don't you record something and put it up before you critique his technique?

  • every guitar player who had studied classical guitar, will nevertheless look stupid beside tommy ;-)

  • kiwis are so cool

  • best auzzy guitarist and best auzzy comedian too (im an Kiwi if tht makes no sense then it dsnt matter)

  • I love this video hahahahaha
