a real bass player is a someone who plays bass good duh regardless if u use a pick or not but my moto is if ur gonna use a pick u better fuckin rip... if u play slow songs why use a pick it makes no sense if ur playin like there is no tomorow wippin out 64th notes left and right then its ok if u use a pick
I think you should play it with a pick like you would a guitar. In Music, the Bass instrument is used as a push and guide for the melody, or in this case, lead. It's better with a pick, as it relates to the guitar more. However, it is better to not use a pick, like in genres that aren't rock.

Dude, if this kid wants to give a tribute to cliff, he needs to start by spelling his name right, Cliff Burton, and second he needs to not suck. That usually helps. Keep practicing
if you play daily... it only takes like a few hours... slapping is more difficult to get used too... it's really matter of minutes :D if you just have to use the 4 basic strings lay your thump on the 5th string and it will be no different than a four string... i hope you'll buy a 5 string, i personaly love the 5 strings...
oh thats cool. ya i play at least1 hr to 2 hrs a day. so ill be alright with a 5 string in a week im guessing. but its cool though. i dotn play slap, not cuz i hate it in fact i like the sound, but its just not my style, i do use my fingers but slaping just isnt me.
