I don't know why you are amazed that they had 5 minutes to prepare. That's how most musicians are, just give then the chords or a scale or key note and you've got a decent song. Not even that, good musicians can do that by ear and get a great improvised song.

For a jam session this was excellent. In a performance the other musicians should interact with each other and show more passion. Its not just about the singer, everyone counts.
