  • hey the trilobite you listed as otarion... isn't it a cyphaspis? besides that i love your moroccan trilobites and heck even more your video! very nice!

  • at 10:10 it sounds like your saying "it makes creationism not true". As in 'god created the heavens and the earth about 6000 years ago' is simply false. Is that what you were saying?

  • @funkymuz - IT should really say that "proves" creation is not true but when working without a speech it came out as "makes". I often make such errors sadly!

  • Wonderful, informative and fascinating video...

  • Thysanopeltis not Scutellum @ 1:37

  • @billiard9 You are quite right! Thanks!

  • "there are creatures around today we have no fossil record of"

    AHA! so evolution DOESNT HAPPEN!!!

    :-p

  • And someone gave you -1 for that =}... LoL, he stands corrected, I fixed that ;-). By the way, interestingly enough this fact is not often brought up in debates vs creationists...

  • Hey darwinsgift, do you own a Sprigginia fossil?

  • No, I could not afford one!

  • how much will a Trilobite fossil cost typically?

probably my favourite animal after nudibranchs

  • It is obviously dependant on the specimen quality an rarity. The Scutellum specimen shown was £23.50 sterling and the large pos/neg £95.00 yet you can find some common species for about £5.00.

  • well that takes care of that, now i just need to find a place that sells fossils somewhere in my region of southern ontario... thanks!

  • love the video. here in Florida we have site all over the state to find MEGALODON teeth and although I have never went searching for them I have friends who have done so. I would love to do it but we have to be very careful because of the alligators and snakes in the areas.

  • You are right Claire, the sound is too quiet. The last video was too loud and burnt out so I turned this one down. The result only seems to come to light when I download it. Third time lucky perhaps!!

  • Sorry to bother you, can't you reupload it with a higher level of sound? Because it is in fact too quiet. While I can lower the sound level if it is too high, I cannot raise it more than what I'm listening.

  • They're still around arent they? Cuz they look an awful lot like Horse Shoe Crabs. Ok i think i miss heard you... about them not being around anymore.

  • Horse shoe crabs are also arthropods, and are probably the closest living relatives of trilobites, but they aren't trilobites. Similar species to the horseshoe crab were apparantly around in the devonian, when the trilobites died out. Hope that helps.

  • thanks man I was just wondering... I have horseshoe crabs in formaldehyde at my parents home. Its a pretty sweet collection of creepy crawlies i got back there :) I need to get them. they're kinda like family heirlooms.

  • They are Xiphosurans, members of the arachnid class, a seperate class of arthropod from trilobites & horse shoe crabs are more closely related to the extinct eurypterids.

  • I used to love tormenting slaters when I was a kid, to see them roll into a ball. Do you think Trilobites rolled into balls to travel down hills???

;-) Lovely Vid. Thanks for the info.

  • Excellent vid DG!

  • Beautiful Trilobites, Thanks

  • did u see the face of christ from 6.18-6.42.

  • no.

  • another great informative video, thanks!

  • As a kid, I used to dig up my own trilobites near my home. The largest one I ever found though was about the size of a silver dollar.

I was recently reminded of this article I read a few months ago about ocelli

    tinyurl[dot]com/mrwsuh

and there are some paleontologists who believe that the trilobites were the first to develop this organ.

    Cool stuff!

  • Thanks for pointing me to the article, that was interesting.

I have doubts that they were the first though, it is highly likely that these pre date even the trilobites.

  • Yeah, I guess I should have said that some paleantologists believe they first appeared in the fossil record with triobites. The controversy (as I understand it) is that the little indentation in some Cambrian trilobite fossils which have been interpreted as an early ocellus could easily be interpreted as something else.
