I'm glad I was into origami back when I was younger. I can tell when something's symmetrical by sight now. Also, what was he using to file the bow down?
Yep, most of us soak and steam the stave before clamping in a form. Plain heat will make it brittle and cause stress fractures and compresses the wood fiber, which makes the bow weak.
i thought you make the wood wet then it becomes flexible and you dry it after you clamp it in the mold? he drys it first and then he bends it whats up with that?
@MartinSoulflake well when wood is held in a certain position then heated it will stay in that position but when you bend it when it's wet it will not hold it's shape as well.
its very cool how he showed every how to properly make a bow and i would like being his student as well. and its true what he says, a compound bow is not a real bow. theres no heart and soul in compounds. if you want the true experience of hunting with a bow you would probaly have to learn how to make yopur own bow first.
@MrSchpankme : He has plenty of thickness to go without being worried about marking up the belly. When I am just getting it out of the "floor tillered" stage, I never use clamp pads, but when it's close to final dimensions, it definitely needs pads.
Just wondering is that a bastard file or a rasp?
