God i wish i could have been alive in the 70's. sadly i wasnt. my dad piratically raised with their music. for the short time they were here they were mere gods among man. but you know they up in heaven rockin, thanks for postin this man
Thanks Ted, I was 18 when their plane crashed also. I heard about it on the radio and plugged their 8 track in and turned it up! I had just seen them at the Miami-Hollywood Sportatorium.
Man, the band seen rejuvinated after Steve Gaines joined. Great video Ted. I love to look back at those days, some of the best music that defined my early years.
Thanks so much for posting this comment Timjr1959! I appreciate you stopping by. These guys were the best of the best! I think only Gary Rossington, Ed King, Bob Burns, Leslie Hawkins, and JoJo Billingsley are the only ones left.
Fuck me!!!!! What a band. all the guitar players...Ronnie (Rest in peace) Lynyrd Skynyrd was and Still is americas best Rock and Roll Band!!!!!!!And I'll have words with thinks different
Oh what memories... My first concert experience was Skynyrd and Frampton at Cleveland public hall in 1975.. Saw em again in 1976 at the Richfield Coliseum with ZZ top.. Had tickets in 1977 for the show that got canceled because of the plane crash..Saw em in 1980? at Allen Theater.. Just saw em in 2007 at Blossom music center... Going to Blossom in July 2009 to see em with Kid Rock!!!!! Some ROCK LEGENDS NEVER DIE...
This is the best band in the world . I have and will be a Skynyrd fan forever.
It still brings a tear to my eye every time I watch the old videos I really miss these guys and now that Billy is jaming with Ronnie, Steve , Allen, Cassie, Leon it make heaven an even more desirable destination.
In closing: from one Powell to another I will see you on the other side Billy
billy, billy billy, now tickling ivory for the man upstairs. Freedom rock ain`t free but sure kicks ass. Kiss the ground , kiss the sky,let your free flag fly. You can say goodbye but you will never die.
Simply put: They were the greatest Southern Rock band of all time! I miss you Ronnie and the rest of the band. You meant so much to me in my youth. Rest in peace my brothers.
Amen! I was at a promo in Orlando Just days before the crash. The boys signed my fold out Street Survivors album that afternoon. I skipped school to get that album signed and several years later some piece of crap stole it. Rock On Skynyrd fans!
The times that I saw Skynard this song was like their opener for the show. It was a signature song you know. The Rebel flag would come down, Ronnie growling in the mike, Gary, Steve and Allen tearing it up, man what a memory. They started it up, and it didn't end untill the Bird would fly. Thanks for this video.
Steve Gaines never gets mentioned much but in the new Guitar World Gary says he was the greatest player he ever worked with. He came in at a critical time and gave the road-weary band a much needed kick in the pants. He contributed a lot to their songwriting on Street Survivors too - a talent the band was clueless about until after he was hired.
I love to see Allen play - his fingerings are amazing!
Steve never got the props he deserved. So many compare him to his predecessor Ed King. Two different birds! Gaines was an asset to Skynyrd big time! Thanks for the feedback DanInNC66! Peace!~Ted
Take this for whatever its worth, but I always thought the late Leon Wilkeson never got his due. He was an outstanding, hard working bass player, ala Geezer Butler from Black Sabbath
So many memories come to mind when I clicked on this...its important to remember fondly the musical excellence, and the the tremendous insight of Ronnie Vant Zant. The man posessed wisdom beyond his 29 years. God Bless Patong Ted
Thanks for watching gitrdone72404. Your opinion is shared by many people. Ed King's songwriting skills were a major part of the Pronounced Leh-Nerd Skin-Nerd, Second Helping and Nuthin' Fancy albums as well. Peace!~Ted
A great tribute Ted, my friend Ron was a huge Skynyrd fan back then and working for MCA was his favorite song. But tragicly he died in 1983 in a plane crash also. so that song brings back good memories. thanks again. chefdor.32
I was 19 when the plane crashed! I too felt a terrible loss (still do) I was suppose to see them with Ted Nugent at the Nassau Coliseum in NY. After the news I got the "Lynyrd Skynyrd Rebel Flag Skull head" Logo on my right forearm that year. I sure miss em all. All of the Greatest Southern Rock Bands suffered tremendous loss, and it sucks..big time!! RIP to all of you Boys. Phal
Yes they were wtcba08! When Lynyrd Skynyrd opened for The Who during their 1973 Quadrophenia Tour they used to earn mega-encores. This was quite an accomplishment for the little-known band in the faces of a Who crowd. Pete Townsend was quoted as saying "They're really quite good, aren't they?" Great Video....'76 was the year I was born man, so I never got to the original. This video still makes me miss the south though, I'm in exile up in the frozen great lakes for awhile.
Man I really wish I could have been around in those days and see the original skynyrd. Its okay though, I can through in my Skynyrd on vinyl and imagine. Thanks for posting this, I love workin for MCA has to be one of my favorite songs. True southern rock the way its suppose to be.

here's a story for you Ted..years ago I rented the video of this concert and watched with my 4 year old daughter...she drew pictures for days after of a little red stick figure with long hair and a guitar..she loved the "jump" from freebird...she's 13 now and into other bands...but I still have the pictures!!...they are really..really cute..scary in a way if I were Steven King...but cute..lol

I am English but my uncle was and is still mad about this wonderfull band my dad would storm along country roads in our ford playing these exellent songs .....totally inspired me to music
Thanks Jerry! Keep putting out that good music bro! I will stop in some internet shops from time to time while I am gone to see what you are putting out there for the YouTube family to enjoy. Peace—Ted
As a southern boy from Alabama, I can feel the soul from their music still as the years have flown. I have caught myself many times drunk in a bar somewhere on this plannet yelling for "Free Bird"! Thanks for the great video Ted! Have a safe and awesome trip to Phuket! Bill
Thanks Bill! I am a country boy as well from southern Maryland. I was raised on Skynyrd as a youth. Thanks for the send off to Phuket Bro! Cheers--Ted
Thank you kindly Bob! Wow! You saw them real early. I did not see them until 76. I cannot get into the so called "Skynyrd" that is touring now. There are only 2 original members in the band. I give Ronnie's little brother Johnny and gang credit for trying to keep it alive, but its NOT the same band. Thanks for the send off for my trip.-Cheers Brother--Ted
Ted! Ted! wow! at the beging that damn near brought tears to my eyes!! Lynyrd Skynyrd was my all time favorite ROck Band! I seem them live in St.Louis in 74 i think it was, what a show!! great vid man! thanks Be safe on your trip and have a great time pal! peace! B 5**** and fav'd for damn sure!
***** ...excellent Ted !..great video man !..I love Skynyrd man...Steve Gaines was a great guitarist...what a loss...what a loss all around !..thanks for this Ted !
Thank you Eddie! Very much appreciated!! I leave in less than 48 hours Bro. So, I will stop into internet shops from time to time to see what you have new on your channel. Bon Voyage My Friend!--Ted

As a southern boy from Alabama, I can feel the soul from their music still as the years have flown. I have caught myself many times drunk in a bar somewhere on this plannet yelling for "Free Bird"! Thanks for the great video Ted! Have a safe and awesome trip to Phuket! Bill

When Lynyrd Skynyrd opened for The Who during their 1973 Quadrophenia Tour they used to earn encores. This was quite an accomplishment for the little-known band in the faces of a Who crowd. Pete Townsend was quoted as saying "They're really quite good, aren't they?" But, rumor has it that Townsend and Daltry really did not like the whole encore thing Skynyrd was receiving night after night.
