  • i think a five year old knows that gravity is everywhere in the world

  • Carries a load of 900 Kg? If someone cuts the cables, this thing snaps you through the roof of your house directly into space!

  • so is there a 'real' one or not.. they only showed a small proto-type that they didnt even put anything on...?

  • 7 years and it still needs tethers.. woopy!! couldnt a series of pulling and pushing in a certain order give some form of stability. you might as well use subzero semiconductors. at least they keep them self's in the right place. ( hypothermia and being frozen to the bed might be a letdown)

  • @MrDigitalDAYdream im sure it was looked into. the series of magnets. not the frozen bed idea, although very interesting: not practical

  • @TheRicheg those bracelets are bullshit snake oil for gullible people. I would google around. Same thing about those "balance bracelets".

  • bed for mini me?

  • this is the worst invention ever... i mean imagine coming home drunk, heading towards your bet and hitting the floor so bad that someone needs to call 911, just because those "thin" strings that uses all the rooms space... also, he says the magnetic field over the top of the bed is close to 0 ... totally harmless UNLESS YOU HAVE ANY PIERCINGS ! haha wtf close to 0 but if u don't wanna die no piercings alowed lol

  • so... what if you have sex on the bed??? will it get very shaky??? or what if you are a heavy dude and the magnet can not support you??? or will it tilt to another side if you are leaning on one side more than the other???

  • There's no such thing as "permanent magnets" . I think when you buy this bed after a year or 3 it will slowly start coming down.

  • @1paardenkop

    Google for: Neodymium magnet

  • @Soulway1 I'm sorry but I am studyin the magnetic capacity and their durance and I can tell you with certainty that even neodymium magnets lose their power...

  • @1paardenkop You mean at high temperatures and due to corrosion right? Otherwise I never heard about that, care to explain further? =)

As far as I know (and i am no expert in the subject) they are permanent magnets, but have low tolerance to temperature changes (start to lose magnetism at 80º C and lose it altogether at 312ºC) and are affected by corrosion, that does'nt mean it's not a permanent magnet though =)

  • @Soulway1 No, not only by temperature and corrosion. Magnets (all magnets) have coercivities .This is the factor that determines who fast a magnet loses it's magnetic field. think about this : if magnets were inexhaustible you would have an infinite source of energy( which is impossible).

  • @1paardenkop You don't understand the concept of "Energy Transformation." Sad. Gravity is "inexhaustible" (it's also a force like Magnetism). But that does NOT mean that it is the "source" of infinite energy. Revise your physics lessons bro.

  • Guys.. i'm pretty positive that's just the bed 'frame' lol. The mattress isn't on it.

  • it took how meny years to realize that gravity is every where and how meany more to realize the idea from a levitating toy cold be coveted in to a bed.. hay hears another idea lets use super conductors and permanent magnets then we can get rid of those 4 trip wires ps if magnetism dose not influence the body a all how do megnetic wristbands work?

  • Everyone with a right mind has thought about such a thing, it only takes enough resources to actually realize it.

  • Here's what makes me want it:

1-The wires are conveniently placed wherever you will be walking in the room.

2-It looks even more comfortable than that rock I blacked out on when I was really drunk.

3-the ability to support a car will surely make this bed fun to jump/have sexy time on

4-Sleeping for years on a super magnet will not at all have any long tern negative effects. It will probably turn you into magneto

Just make sure not to bring you laptop/ iphone anywhere on the bed.

  • You'll be tripping over those wires that extend 10 foot out on each corner in no time!.

  • Did They Film This in a sauna .. why dose he look like he just run a marathon ?

  • Finally! Someone has made a user-friendly bed!

THIS IS THE MICROSOFT OF BEDS!

  • this reminds me of Sirens of Titan

  • Thats amazing, it took you 6 years of Architecture education to realise that gravity is everywhere on earth. You Twat

  • @MrLearntoread Dude do you understand the dynamics of magnetism you twat. Weight, keeping the damn thing stable and magnetic fields you SOB.

  • @souldesign09 I dont give a fuck about the dynamics of magnetism. Its a shit idea.

  • @MrLearntoread I'm pretty sure he means 6 years to create a bed that doesn't have a magnetic field above that will cause you to stick to the bed if you have metals in your pockets or something.

  • @nambinhvu He says "6 years ago when I graduated as an architect I realised that all architecture is dictated by gravity". Its a stupid statement and a stupid invention.

  • and picking up where i left off in the last huge comment, so theres a huge magnet in the room that was once using its force to push off of each other (the two parts as designed to do) but now they are one part and it seems to me that the magnet would shoot out at the closest i beam in the wall and crush anything in between. idk. yeah idk

  • sooooo.... also one more thing... so theres HUGE magnets involved here. and one is pushing off of the other.... because the poles of the magnets are opposing... but... what if somebody accidentally connected the two magnets? because i noticed by just messing around with magnets that they will flip thier poles if they are connected by an objec (or maybe i was more drunk than i thought) but yeah... idk. i just assume bad things could happen if there is a huge magnet in the middle of the room.

  • so also at 1:15 you can see that its harnessed to the ground by the corners. its cool for sure but i thought it would be cooler. and i bet there will be a cooler one soon....

  • "never weakening permanate magnets"?????? that is actually the problem with permanate mangets is that they infact do lose thier magnatism over time.... so while i know im not good at spelling, this is a bogus statement.

  • good concept, crap video, audio compression is all over the place.

  • I think their problem was not only in understanding how to make it fly but how to make it healthy for people!

  • Why did it take them 6 years to figure out how to put a giant magnet under the

    Bed?

  • heeey een nederlander! :D

  • Arthurs bed was better. 1.6 Million, really, for magnets? not even electro magnets.

  • Nice

The fear some express of being crushed by cables snapping and field pushing up is not only reason for the cables Look at the cables spread out configuration bed looks cool but if magnets are not centered the bed would have bigger tendency to shift sideways off magnetic field and would then crash to the ground

  • thumbs up if you came here because of the movie Arthur!!!

  • @xxgamer360xx ... hahaha, yes, I stopped the DVD and immediately googled "floating bed"!

  • @xxgamer360xx I paused the movie just to research it lol

  • now we just use this idea, and apply it to a skateboard.

  • @GanjaMunchman Back to the future 2 hahah

  • @BLuFLamE973

    Yeah :D

  • @GanjaMunchman A skateboard tethered at each corner to the ground? Wow...rock and roll.

  • @lopartino19 never thought of that, thanks for clearing it up

  • it cost 1.6 millions us dollars........

  • It dosn't look very comfortable...

  • ugh it would suck so much if by 2012 the Polars magnetic in the world switches and stuff but other wise that would be awesome but is it comfy! i need a bed fr my back pain

  • if they used certain material for the string it wouldnt break and it does not defy gravity it is and outside force that is stronger than gravity but will still fall if weight limit over seeds just saying

  • if the cables snapped some how, would you be pushed and crushed by the ceiling?

  • Thats a lot of force between the bottom of the bed and floor? is that really safe? Lets say all the cables snap and your pushed up, crushed between your ceiling and Ikea sheets. And the cables hold, Is the force powerful enough to push through the floor of a second story building so you crash down? I want one, but I dont want to die.

  • I'm not sure you'd get a good rest if you have a bunch of confused birds flying into your window, lol.

  • what's funny is that he made this because he wanted to make something which was not dictated by gravity, and ironically, the reason the piece is so distinguished is because it defies gravity...sooooo, gravity still is the key aspect of the piece; it makes it what it is...

  • how will the technology works in this room - lol ) but its cool idea

  • This thing is hilariously dangerous, if the cables get cut it'll fly up on one end and the magnetic fields will try to align in a way where they attract each other. Imagine getting trapped between the plates, if he's telling the truth about 900kg load capacity, it'll have several tonnes of pulling force when the plates slam together!

  • @SAerror1 I was thinking about this, too. If those cables broke, you'd probably be dead before you knew it, lol.

  • Fucking magnets, how do they work?

  • What happens when the cables get loose!? You get crushed against the ceiling!? Splat!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is a great invention, but I don't think I'd sleep on a platform that weighs -900 kilos. I'd rather dress up in a metal suit and sleep under it!

  • I heard that the magnetism can hurt your body

  • @tantanpowns magnetism is good for your body. its a proven form of therapy for common pains

  • troll science

  • ....i was thinking about doing this since i was a little kid..im sure some of you guys did also..this is cool but i think it should and COULD of bin donw a bit ago

  • Oh my god, everything is dictated by GRAVITY? Magnetic fields are used in MRI Scans?! THESE AMAZING FACTS JUSTIFY HIS BULLSHIT!

He thought it would be cool to "levitate" a bedframe with magnets. Just fucking say that and move on.

  • Cool concept, but to spend 6 years trying to develop it seems like a waste of time.

  • IS THE BED STONG ENOUGH FOR ADULT ACTIVITY?

  • Is this bed strong enough for STRONG SEXUAL ACTIVITY?

  • Why does it take 6 years to design a block made out of magnetic material -.-

  • What happens if there's a earthquake?

  • Cool in theory but would actually be really impractical and dangerous

  • You could never have any electronics near the bed, let alone the room. The magnet would have a huge field bedroom. This is really impractical and kind of pointless.

  • atleast no more monsters under bed

  • think about it... your sleeping on a solid steel bed

  • sux

  • what if one of the wires snapped?

  • Magnetic forces are rumored to cause cancer =/ failboat

  • Funnyjunk! :)

  • What a stupid brainless idea.

Such a strong magnetism would effect many electronic devices and a metal object could injure someone if placed in-between.

    What a stupid idiotic idea.

  • Should've done more research. MRI does have a negative impact on your body.

  • this could make the scenario of a movie ... The Killing Bed:))

it would be more awesome is they put magnets all over the room and make the bed stay there without those cables ...

  • if i pay 1.6 Mill for a bed how much dose you chairs cost?!?!?!?!?1

  • Well, this may rape your phone if it gets near.

  • Just imagine if a person was sleeping on the bed and all the cables broke. That would be one hell of a wake up.

  • Just a thought.. won't the ropes make it hard to walk around the room though?

  • it's just cool. Not functional. I wonder if Kubrick would have used it for Space Odyssey...

  • dont drop nothing under. ha!

  • So I could achieve the same thing by replacing the ropes with say metal rods and replacing the "bed" with something like wood.

  • Dang he is "Sexy." I watched his video twice before I rememberd why I was watching the video.

But yeah, I was wondering the same as wendal, if a cable broke and all.

  • Call me stupid but if just one of those cables breaks wont that bed flip over and squash the poor person lying on it, magnets that are put like pole to like pole are unstable and will flip over and attract each other with a violent smack.

  • and there goes all the electronics in the house... at least i have a floating bed?

  • with this bed, you could die having sex!

"my sex is killer, do you wanna die happy?"

  • I don't think having such a strong magnetic field in your everyday environment is healthy... and so much metal as well...but could be attractive if you put it in a cafe or something... as long as people don't have piercings :P

  • i guess we should use plastic spoon/ fork, etc when eating and we must remove all jewelries and other metal accessories..

  • @kugmo04 Not necessarily jewelry since some jewelry is made out of gold and silver, which isn't actually magnetic

  • If people put this some how in roads and let that bed move forward with a prop or something would that bet awesome.

  • It has tethers...

I thought they had done something amazing with the magnets, controlling the fields, having some sort of torus field or such, balancing and holding the bed in the middle.

But no. It's simply magnets in the ground, repulsing magnets in the floating block, which is tethered in place so it cannot move horizontally, or up.

  • This guy is not a genius... This is not practical AT ALL. In fact, its potentially fatal

  • p.s its a bit worrying aha, what if your sleeping on it and cables snap, you'd be squashed against the roof?

  • i was thinking about this but with cars.

  • My only concern about this bed would be the fact that over time the magnetic permeability will decrease and the magnets will lose their magnetic ability and you will either have to re-magnetize them or replace the magnets. Since they are used in MRI machines they will last much longer than small less powerful magnets. Anyway..an amazing work of art and it deserves my respects!

  • If I ever make alot of money someday this will be my first bed!

  • Lets say you decided to use it as a bed and while you were sleeping two of the floor mounts failed. How in the hell would the coroner get the rest of you out from under it?

  • Comment removed

  • He failed. He wanted to create furniture that is not dictated by gravity...Well, the very core of the need for the magnetic field to exist is to defy gravitational forces acting on the bed in the first place....so his design is still dictated by gravity. Duh!!

  • Yo...

    quit being so anal.

  • @chatbox No, he did succeed. He built it in such a way that there are no conventional architectural supports; that allows for much more artistic embellishment upon it, compared to every other single work of architecture that requires some structural support. But I guess, literally, he did fail.

  • Loved the bed and also the architect !

  • They call it a bed, but is that really a bed just by itself? It looks like without a mattress it'd be pretty uncomfortable to sleep on. >.>;

Make sure to take any metal objects out of your pockets before sitting on it! xD

  • did you not fucking listen? above the bed has no magnetic field

  • I don't know about using it as a table...with a magnetic field that strong, dropping your knife or fork could be potentially fatal!

  • @lordfly88 The forces are opposing, so putting your knife or fork down it would stay there and be harder to lift up.

  • @lordfly88 If you would have actually listened to the guy talking he goes on to say "the magnetic field above the bed is virtually zero"

  • @Squeakypinktricycle Doesn't matter, there is a huge magnetic field under it and probably to the sides too.

  • @lordfly88 the magnetic field on top of the bed is almost zero

  • Wouldn't particularly want to sleep in a magnetic field that strong. I don't like cancer thanks. On the other hand... Couldn't you just use 4 high tension load bearing cables and attach those to the ceiling for exactly the same effect? It's just a pointless toy.

  • I don't think magnetic field causes cancer, because magnetic fields are all around us (Earth magnetic field, MRI, ect. )

  • @Badhabitsjay oh hait. If you listened, the way they designed it was so the magnetic field above around the bed is near zero. Just don't climb underneath it. Also, if you're worried about cancer, you probably shouldn't live on this planet considering a new necessity of life is announced as carcinogenic every day.

  • I WANT ONE SO BADDD! :D

  • It would be a really bad idea to have, you could get cancer and if you have any metal object they could fly around and hit you
