the song itself was amazing - one of my fav - but on the big night they screw it up so badly i couldn't believe it's the same song - they were literally screaming it in to microphone without any proportions
Amazing that Norway has had both one of best songs in history of the contest but also one of the absolutely worst entries. This for sure goes into that list with their entries from 69,75,78,81,90,92 and 97. Their best are of course from 88,93,94,95 and 96
Not one of Norway's best, I'm afraid. However, while I wasn't born until June that year, my sister, who was eleven years old at the time, still remembers it.
I love the fact that they are completely stoned in this song..... I only realised a few weeks ago. Watch how the blonde one tries to make the other one laugh...
This is my favourite Norwegian entry ever! I agree with the comment above: the live orchestra suited better the big and dramatic ballads, but killed the up-tempo songs like this one. One way or another, I like this song even more than the Swedish crap that won this year!
@faezdel Most orchestras ever involved in Eurovsion were of top quality, and those musicans have no problems playing modern up-tempo popsongs. The hard job is to get the sound mix right. And the sound job at the 1984-production were not the best, escpecially not in this song. Linda Martins with "Terminal 3" was luckier with the sound i her song, and I thinks it's a good example how great an up-tempo song can sound with a live orchestra.
The recorded version of this song is fantastic! One of my all time ESC favourites. Unfortunately a rather nervous performance doomed it. It's also another example of a song that would have been better with the backing track not the orchestra.
@shadowcatphaser Recorded versions and live versions are two very different musical expressions which you can not compare. Where the studio version has a 100 % perfect and balanced sound, the live version got the spontanity, liveliness and magic of the moment.
The song sounds fabulous on record but this performance was ruined already from the first second with odd scream and their horrible choreography. A shame - one of Norway's best Eurovision entries ever bombed.
So this was our '84 entry. It was a Top 3 favourite, but ended on a 17th place (Of 19). The reason: A very weak and screamy vocal performance (Terrible mix!). Still, I think this song was rather underrated. It's a beautiful, powerful song and their outfits are very cool! :-) BTW, many strange things happened in their performance, look at 2.30-2.33, LOL!:-P

I totally agree that the backing track should have been used. I think that the orchestra should return, but should be made an option.

SchoyenBlunck 3 years ago 2
