Great song. Is there any way to tell what year it was composed? It's supposed to have been composed for an episode of a film drama called "西厢记," so I assume it was probably composed in the same year the film was made and released. Some sources say 1940 and some say 1941 (during World War II), but one website says 1937. There was a 1927 film version of "西厢记" but I'm sure that's not the same one.

Are those the Shanghai-based Russian session guys playing the jazz instruments on this recording?
