This is very common in Japanese Bonzai trees. Here they also use small stones to create a landscape effect for decoration and feeling. This has been an old tradition which ofcourse came from China to Japan. Sometimes they even manupilate the stones to the desired shape.
Amazing stones! I have always been fascinated by rocks/crystals/stones.
You are brave enough to paint landscapes with mountains! You do a beautiful job. It is hard to believe you are new to brush painting! I admire your work very much, Nacho. :)
found your videos from searching for Bob Ross, but has opened up my fascination with watching all your pieces and wanted to commend you, really enjoy them, you have the smooth voice and the 'atmosphere' that the joy of painting shows have. you should record one 'live', would be interesting to see your process. greats vids, great artist, keep painting and posting please!
thank you so much cu27 and soulcomfort1, you have made my day! :) Seriously, your comments have encouraged me to paint again. I am glad you like it :)

This is fascinating. I did not know that such stones were collected or displayed as this; treasured. But I can see why.
This was a good education.
