I'm currently a 25Q and reclassing to 68W to reenlist because all signal MOS'a are over staffed and all E-4 and below can't stay signal to reenlist. This was the only MOS available to me besides 11B and 19D.
Yeah, I joined right out of highschool, and got 68W, but it's a really hard MOS to get right now because the military is already overstaffed. Good luck guys
ya that is odd my recruiter office started my future soldier stuff 4 days after i got back from meps, most of everyone who went to meps with me had a later ship day most are going end of feb, i am the only one going medic at my station out of about 25 future soldiers
@socal1000 i don't leave till nov and i got mine in may, this other guy got 68W too and he got into future soldier training about a month after me and leaves in oct! WTF?!?!
@SPOCKTAVIAN---- You are full of crap!!! I am Female, 68w. I went Airborne and Air Assault schools and am currently deployed for my second tour to Afghan. SO>>>>SUCK IT!!!!

about a month ago i walked into a army recruiter station and asked a few questions, filled out a card and got called back 3 days later by my future recruiter
went into the office talked to him told him i wanted to be a medic, he said what if medic is not available i said then i will do something in combat arms to get the most medical experience.
long story short took my asvab went to meps and yesterday left a 68w
@TheColbert54 only if your nationally registered, if you are only state registered you will still need to do all the training and take the EMT test.if you are nationally registered, you become "fast tracked" and will usually skip about half of the training (emt portion)
I was this one when it was 91B.........."Doc" is a heavy weight on your shoulders if you are lucky enough to serve with the combat arms. I've had Captains asking my call to bring in a Dustoff. You can literally be an E-1 and have control over EVERYONE because YOU are the medical authority. But.....You'd better be right.
There is no more noble profession than a Combat Medic. None. When the boys start calling you "Doc".....if the ever do...You've made it. You're in.
@supremo502 its not the actual overall score they look at. i know your GT score has to be a 107and an ST score of 101. And a bunch of online things will tell you that AIT is 16 weeks, but mine is 18 weeks.

Anyone know if a female 68W can be assigned to a line unit??
One girl I knew was a light-wheel mechanic and she was deployed to Iraq with an infantry unit out of Hawaii...so I think females are allowed to be attached to infantry units, as long as they aren't on the front line. (Which is BS in itself; I was in Iraq in '05 during OIF III and there was no damn "front line"; the whole f-ing country is a war zone.
@SavoyTruffle78 .. NO female medics can not be with a line unit. They can be with a Infantry Brigade that deploys but you will see no action, Don't worry, you will be in a BSB, Charlie Med unit on the FOB a nice A/C tent.
@peterstednick Actually, SavoyTruffle is right. There really are no front lines, and despite the fact that women aren't supposed to be put into combat situations, it's hard to avoid. Convoys hit by IEDs or ambushed, FOBs under mortar and rocket attacks. You get the idea.
@peterstednick That's funny because I saw more female medics out in the "front lines" when I was in Iraq. Then again there is not front lines anymore. You're convoy gets hit, guess what it doesn't matter if you are male or female you are then on the front lines. A female will not be in an infantry unit that is true, but that is more for the safety of the female. As a medic I have served in Iraq under fire in a Mass Cal incident, with female medics beside me. Female medics DO see combat.
Whiskey school was so fun. I can't stand getting up at 4 every day, and staying awake in class was hard, but other than that, I had a blast.

Sorry i am a 68W and unless you are a female, go ahead get mad but not at me at the army they are the ones who wont let you do as much, hearing health care specialist is funny stuff. i think i heard it called that at my recruiter station and then never again. learn soldier medic first for ait at fort sam then combat medic or doc after that.
<--- 68W with 4 years active-duty, 2 years in Iraq and stationed @ Bragg. If you're even 10% motivated to do anything "Hooah", medic is NOT the way to go! Question for ya'll. I signed as a 68W 3 months ago and leave for basic/AIT Jan 4. Im already an EMT so i signed as a CASP candidate so im an E-4 and am accelerated to the 8th week of AIT. Do you think i will have problems with comradery and learning?
@Jahr30 im at 68W ait right now, since you have you already have your emt you are going to go straight to a company that is in the whiskey phase of the training. Im in my 7th week just about to take the national registry. you work hard here but you also play hard and you get to go to downtown san antonio on the weekends once you get phase 5. the instructors here are great and so are the other soldiers atleast in my company
I want to do this but I don't want to wind up cleaning a car, standing at a gate, or punching my self in the face for joining. I would like to be on the front lines making a difference is there anyway to request a field unit?
@fr33t0killy0u You won't be cleaning cars or standing at a gate. It's true that a lot of army MOS's get stuck doing details that aren't relative to their MOS, but as a 68W, I can tell you it's an exception.
-Once you graduate ait you get to your unit and you'll either be working the aidstation. "like a doctors office" Or you'll be attached to a line unit. Getting attached to a line unit is up to your platoon sergeant, and more than likely they'll need line medics so you're good.
im sure someone already answered this but... you can try to do airborne or ranger school, which increases the chance of you getting into a field unit.
however, they just rotate you periodically. most 68W's do not ONLY stay in a clinic or ONLY stay in the field. gotta be well rounded, they say.
@thabonestacker easy! if you have a penis youre going to combat! if you have a vagina, they will give you rank, stick you in an office hospital, and you will never deploy!!!!
@bimboy08 Same path I took. Fort Sill to Fort Sam. Same time, too. January of '08 for me. Be prepared to freeze your fucking ASS off. I mean it. Lawton, Oklahoma at 5 in the morning early January is no joke. Your hands are going to freeze to the ground while you're in the front leaning rest.
How does one become an infantry line medic within 68W rather than a clinic medic? Do you get to choose or are you initially a line medic but with further qualifications you become a clinic medic?
@AsrkidDF Right now if you go in you'll most likely be a line medic, they need more of those than anything else. They put you where they need you though.
@hailthereaper Yea that's my MOS too. I'm leaving August 23rd. Funny cuz i got 66 on my ASVAB. O well. Well i guess I will see you there? when u leaving?
Ooo see you did things smart lol, I'll be going in as an E2 and you will probably go in much higher than me. I'm still in high school which is why I don't get to leave till July :/ O well good luck.
I just signed as 68W and will be going to Basic in Fort Jackson March 08, 2009 and then on to Fort Sam Houston. If anybody is entering at the same time please e-mail me. Also, any information about M6(LPN) training would be helpful. God Bless.
how long does it take after basic training to become a basic feild medic?(i know it ranges anywhere from 16-50 weeks but i need something more accurate)
Hey... My MOS is also a 68w. BCT at Fort Sill and AIT at Fort Sam. I ship on dec 30th. If there's anyone else going to the same training posts, I'd like to get in contact as well. May become battle buddies
Hey guys I'm A new enlister. I leave for basic at Fort Bennings on Feb. 2, 2010 and do my AIT at Fort Sam Houston after my basic training. I'm really excited about my decision on become a 68w and was so happy that I was able to get it. What are the other things I can look forward to and there is anyone else that is going to my field and will be traing at Fort Benning I would really like to get in contact so we can both help each other out. I hear that this is a hard MOS. I wanna succeed!!!!
you do not need college credits just have to qualify based on asvab scores....I am going to bct on 10/20/2009 as a 68w and I do not have a college degree....
i am a licensed paramedic and have my associates degree if i sign up for this mos would be able to start off with additional rank? i dont know if its just a rumor i heard or if its true
You might be able to start out with a rank of E-4 (Specialist) if you are nationally certified as a paramedic and with an associates degree.
My associates degree gave me a starting rank of E-3 (Private First Class) and if I remember correctly I think my recruiter told me I would have been an E-4 had my EMT certification been national instead of just state.
Im an EMT-B and I'll be a 68w in Feb'10. Im an E-2 and w/o an associates. My recruiter said that to start at E-4 you need a 4yr degree but I can make E-3 my first year. Where are you a medic?
i work for AMR in tampa florida but its just not the rush im looking for so i hoping to sign up as a combat medic sounds crazy but if me signing up makes a difference out there savings some ones life then fuck it thats str8 for me
68W here. If you didn't get the M6 in your contract, you are 99% not getting it so don't even worry about it. As for the guy worried about being stuck in a hospital- If you are male you are almost certainly going to a line unit. And if you want to ensure seeing some shoot em up, request Ft. Campbell or Bragg or any other high speed station like that. If you request 101st or something, you'll probably get it, they always need people.
Hey everyone, I got the 68W as my MOS and I'm already an LPN but I only got 68W without the M6 (LPN). Does anyone know how I'll be able to get the M6 title in AIT?
I'm currently a 25Q and reclassing to 68W to reenlist because all signal MOS'a are over staffed and all E-4 and below can't stay signal to reenlist. This was the only MOS available to me besides 11B and 19D.

I wanna succeed!!!!
reithna 2 years ago

you do not need college credits just have to qualify based on asvab scores....I am going to bct on 10/20/2009 as a 68w and I do not have a college degree....

I am a male, (not going to say current rank) and I am in an ARNG ASMC unit.

i am a licensed paramedic and have my associates degree if i sign up for this mos would be able to start off with additional rank? i dont know if its just a rumor i heard or if its true
TheRealestout212 2 years ago
You might be able to start out with a rank of E-4 (Specialist) if you are nationally certified as a paramedic and with an associates degree.
My associates degree gave me a starting rank of E-3 (Private First Class) and if I remember correctly I think my recruiter told me I would have been an E-4 had my EMT certification been national instead of just state.
JQ24 2 years ago
I had a bachelors, but no EMT and started as e-4 specialist. You will get more shit from Drill SGT and cadre for starting as e-4 SPC!
TOMGPII 2 years ago
Im an EMT-B and I'll be a 68w in Feb'10. Im an E-2 and w/o an associates. My recruiter said that to start at E-4 you need a 4yr degree but I can make E-3 my first year. Where are you a medic?
jesseh22 2 years ago
i work for AMR in tampa florida but its just not the rush im looking for so i hoping to sign up as a combat medic sounds crazy but if me signing up makes a difference out there savings some ones life then fuck it thats str8 for me
TheRealestout212 2 years ago
yes you will, i think the hightest rank they can boost you up to is E-4

nieciesbaby 2 years ago
If you request 101st or something, you'll probably get it, they always need people.
alstevns 2 years ago
68w here. Swore in yesterday and I'm shipping to fort sill on September 21st.
plasticine86 2 years ago
Hey everyone, I got the 68W as my MOS and I'm already an LPN but I only got 68W without the M6 (LPN). Does anyone know how I'll be able to get the M6 title in AIT?
chocowate 2 years ago
my friend is doing the same thing. she's in the reserves though. my guess is that you get the M6 when you become an LVN.
but the M6 was already added to hers when she signed her contract.

zephrus21 2 years ago
What are the chances of me actually being in combat if I become a 68W HealthCare Specialist
? I DO NOT want to be safe and snug in some hospital. I want to be out there helping our troops.
emnity33 2 years ago
You can be attached to an infantry unit, and run with the 11B. You could also be part of a field hospital, or battalion aid station.
Just, let your drill seargent know during AIT, and maybe you can get assigned to a field unit.
I was a combat medic back in the day, did AIT in 97, back when the mos was 91B. Was a fun time.
andrewclear 2 years ago
what asvab score do you need to get to do this?
