Brings back great memories from the summer of '92, when my summer seemed endless, the possibilities, the friendships, the sun, the waves. The movie, Endless Summer 2 came out. It seems like a whole other life now, but I will always have the memories!
@ozWeb2 You might remember Ward "Pally" Austin then OZ, as I stated he used this as his theme as he was coming on air at drivetime on the old 2UW. I was about 6 and it remember it so well. Incidentally I'm on the Northern Beaches of Sydney.
Thanks so much for posting this. i remember going to see the movie when i was ten. Loved it then, love it now. i taught in Ghana, West Africa, where one of the surfing scenes is filmed. i still recall trying to teach some of the kids how to swim in the Atlantic.
A man and a friend are playing golf one day at their local golf course. One of the guys is about to chip onto the green when he sees a long funeral procession on the road next to the course. He stops in mid-swing, takes off his golf cap, closes his eyes, and bows down in prayer.
His friend says: “Wow, that is the most thoughtful and touching thing I have ever seen. You truly are a kind man.”
The man then replies: “Yeah, well we were married 35 years.”
Watch my video "Is John Severson my Father" and learn how I discovered that John Severson, founder of Surfer Magazine might be my father and find out how he responded to my request for the truth.
SHAPED the SURF DOCUMENTARY is the official opening film for the Southern California Film Festival. The film will be showing on Sept 28th 2010. Screening at 7:00 pm
at the Huntington Beach Central Library and Cultural Center. (a favorite venue for surf films)
The wide range of great stuff being played in the Summer of 1967 made it not just endless, but remarkable to the point of music-intoxication..........I had the opportunity that Summer to hear stations up and down the East Coast and all along the Gulf and many midwest stations........as a Merchant Marine sailor on coastwise tankers........and did so for severl more years.
@thesandalsband, do you have a web site?!! You just don't know how special this melody is to me. I'm from the SF bay area but I used to spend my summers in So.Cal, which I love so much. I'd put it on my cassette as soon as I reached Santa Barbara and kept playing all the way into Baja. I would sit on the rocks having a beer watch the sunset & the sea with the melody in the background and life was beautiful. San Clemente in the 60's was paradise. God, how I miss it.
Glad to see so much memories from this soul full tune....
This song was written in our garage at 231 la Esperanza in San Clemente Calif by John Blakeley & my brother Gaston
What you are listening to is a re-make of the original done with the original instruments. If you have the original LP you will hear the voice harmonies done by
the girlfriends/wifes? of the famous Jazz Crusaders .. LP was released on World Pacific Records a small jazz label in Hollywood
Takes me back to hearing this on WFLA,-AM, as I sailed of the FL coast in 1967.......crew member, SS Delaware Getty-Delaware City, DE......still get chills.
this song still takes me back to the first time i ever saw ESII (im too young to have been influenced by the original), and i knew that life had more to offer.
yeah bro. that is it, this is the real soul surf and makes anyone want live the best things in the world, get close to the pure people and run away from the violence, crowd and corruption
Love this! I still have the original album as you have pictured. Will always treasure it! Just listening to this record sends chills up & down me. Takes me back to my teenage years in Ocean City, N.J.........Thanks so much for posting!
I've been to Ocean City, Maryland but have never heard of Ocean City in Jersey... was it a cool place to grow up? I grew up in Metro Detroit, no surd round here but still a rad place to grow up

I can't surf for quids, but I grew up near Cronulla in the 60's - 70's and it brings back great memories of my youth.
It was an awesome time to be alive... love this music.

@7272257 I remember the name but I dont recall ever listening to him.
Northern beaches is cool, I have been up there a few times & loved the atmosphere there. I now live on the Gold Coast.
When my school friends were going surfing, I got involved in music, I am a drummer, & I had played all over Sydney, & some northern beaches pubs.
The Royal Antler, Time & Tide where 2 that I can remember. 70's was a great time back.
Richard Clapton was from northern beaches if I remember?
