It takes a good ear to sample. I personally dont prefer to sample because im more into creating my own sounds from the influences i get from the crates :)

look sample or no sample these dudes is trying to give hip hop its luster back no not dissin the south but lets be honest listen to this beat then listen to the beats of whats hot now this takes it am i wrong?
i agree. the very first hip hop track was a sample. if someone is gonna sample a song make it sound right. you dont wanna take a classic and ruin it.(jim jones, camron lol)
9th wonder used this sample too, thats why im not into sampling that much anymore,if i sample it has to be so hot and i have to flip it unreconizeble, plus big recordlabels aint want samples anymore^^
m phazes told himself that sampling is for the love,so its not what producers want,if producers wanne make money of music they cant sample, plus m phazes a homie of mine^^ im a sampled based producer too^^
Most hip hop producers need to sample because people who aren't musicians really don't know how to create melodies. If Primo needs a horn loop, is he going to blow the sax or trumpet himself? Can Pete Rock play guitar? Can Timbaland play piano? You can't create melodies with drum machines. And you can only do so much with synthesizers and keyboards if you aren't a trained musician. Shit, the dirty south producers hates sampling, and look how wack their beats sound.
No doubt! A lot of modern day hip hop producers say that they don't sample because of the clearance fees. That's not the real truth. They don't sample for two reasons...first, because they don't know HOW to sample and secondly, they're too lazy to crate dig. Also, they're too cheap to shop for records. Many wouldn't know how to chop a sample anyway because they don't have DJ skills. Any asshole can call themselves a producer nowadays if they have a drum machine, keyboard, and Pro-Tools.
exactly, i make beats and sample, check em out, i loop and chop depends what influences me and whats hard or easy, but i gotta crate dig on youtube, i dont have a record library :(
There is a lot of truth in what you are saying. But just because some producers choose not to sample does not make them lazy or cheap. Me, preferably I like to arrange my beats instead of sampling. I do sample though from time to time, it's just I naturally don't prefer it. That does not make any less of a hip-hop head than anyone else. It's about personal preference. Everybody has their own style and their way of doing things. If the music is hot and the element is kept it shouldn't matter.
a dope beat is a dope beat wether you sample or make your own beats from scratch like making your own melody, drum, etc. if you can make dope beats which ever way you do it then......KUDOS. you know what I mean?
Exactly. Don't make it seem like every producer HAS to sample or it ain't Hip-Hop. There's nothing wrong with synth as long as the element stays intact. Now when you start going all electro-pop then that's a different story.
I agree with the spirit of what you're saying, but still, if you aren't a musician, you don't know how melodies are created. Without a melody, you get garbage. That's the difference between a beatmaker and a producer. Nile Rogers is a producer, Lil Jon is a beatmaker. If you're a beatmaker, then you need to be sampling actual musicians if you can't play an instrument. "A Milli" is fine from time to time, but i'd prefer "Can i Live." Mostly because i prefer music over just hearing drums.
This track is a great example. Where in the heck is a rap producer gonna get the elements of this track from if he doesn't sample'em? The horns, the vocal...plus the Biz Markie punch...it adds up to a dope track with a real hip hop feel. This is my kind of shit. I don't wanna hear no Polow Da Don or Swizz Beats overproduced synthesized shit that was made for some jr. high school kids. I want my hip hop to actually sound like you put some work into it.
Oh I understand that, I've been a musician since I was ten. So I know composition, and music theory. A producer not only creates the track, but assists the artist with vocal arrangment, co-writes, and stays along throughout the whole process. I know the definition of what a producer is, because I'm one of them homie. I'm very knowledgeable my friend. I use synth, but I also sample to keep the street element because of my love for hip-hop. It's like I said when it gets all electro, I fall back.
I can tell that you know music because of the language you use. I'm not coming down on people for not sampling, but for making music that a damn 5 year old could make. Hip Hop is a joke nowadays. A million clowns calling themselves producers and have no idea about theory. The rappers are an even bigger joke, but i expect more from the "producers." Even R&B, which should be more musically driven, is now just beat driven garbage. Black music has been drained of musicianship. Damn shame!
I agree 100%. R&B nowadays sounds all electro-fied. It's losing the soul element that should be involved. Producers and rappers put absolutely no thought into what they are doing. People don't have standards any more. They're so easily impressed. YO MAN THAT JOINT IS CRAZY! YO THAT SHIT IS HOT SON! Come on man, have some standards. Stop being impressed with everything you hear man...
LOL...damn, i feel the same way. I can't even fuck with it. My nieces and nephews were drooling the other day over a Gucci Mane freestyle...the same freestyle that a 9 year old could come up with. But this new generation is just like you said...no standards! They think everything is dope.
The comment below idk if that's directed at me or not, lol. But as far this comment, exactly. People are so easily impressed man. Then they call you a hater (that excuse of a word nowadays) because you won't fuck with them like that. I'm sorry but I will NOT be bullied into big upping something I don't like. It's my opinion, if I'm a hater for that, then I'll be that.
No, that was directed at another cat on here that was getting shit twisted. Niggas are quick to throw that "hater" bullshit at you nowadays if you don't drop your standards. I love Dilla, but dude assumed that just because i have Detroit roots, i wont critisize him. Fact is, i gives a fuck about location. Shit, the dopest shit IMO is coming outta N.C. if you ask me. But i'm with you...aint no nigga gonna punk me into giving props to weak shit by calling me a hater. Won't work.

If the music is hot and the element is kept it shouldn't matter.

a dope beat is a dope beat wether you sample or make your own beats from scratch like making your own melody, drum, etc. if you can make dope beats which ever way you do it then......KUDOS. you know what I mean?
dablesser10 2 years ago
Exactly. Don't make it seem like every producer HAS to sample or it ain't Hip-Hop. There's nothing wrong with synth as long as the element stays intact. Now when you start going all electro-pop then that's a different story.

AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!

Fourthplanet2487 2 years ago
I can tell that you know music because of the language you use. I'm not coming down on people for not sampling, but for making music that a damn 5 year old could make. Hip Hop is a joke nowadays. A million clowns calling themselves producers and have no idea about theory. The rappers are an even bigger joke, but i expect more from the "producers." Even R&B, which should be more musically driven, is now just beat driven garbage. Black music has been drained of musicianship. Damn shame!
desertdetroiter 2 years ago
I agree 100%. R&B nowadays sounds all electro-fied. It's losing the soul element that should be involved. Producers and rappers put absolutely no thought into what they are doing. People don't have standards any more. They're so easily impressed. YO MAN THAT JOINT IS CRAZY! YO THAT SHIT IS HOT SON! Come on man, have some standards. Stop being impressed with everything you hear man...
Fourthplanet2487 2 years ago
LOL...damn, i feel the same way. I can't even fuck with it. My nieces and nephews were drooling the other day over a Gucci Mane freestyle...the same freestyle that a 9 year old could come up with. But this new generation is just like you said...no standards! They think everything is dope.
desertdetroiter 2 years ago
The comment below idk if that's directed at me or not, lol. But as far this comment, exactly. People are so easily impressed man. Then they call you a hater (that excuse of a word nowadays) because you won't fuck with them like that. I'm sorry but I will NOT be bullied into big upping something I don't like. It's my opinion, if I'm a hater for that, then I'll be that.
Fourthplanet2487 2 years ago
No, that was directed at another cat on here that was getting shit twisted. Niggas are quick to throw that "hater" bullshit at you nowadays if you don't drop your standards. I love Dilla, but dude assumed that just because i have Detroit roots, i wont critisize him. Fact is, i gives a fuck about location. Shit, the dopest shit IMO is coming outta N.C. if you ask me. But i'm with you...aint no nigga gonna punk me into giving props to weak shit by calling me a hater. Won't work.
