what you see here (in halo CEA) is commander keys being turned into a gravemind. because he is fighting back so hard the flood cannot mutate his extremitys so instead ingulfs his entire body and memorys. however sometimes if the flood infection form is deficiant (as seen in the book halo: the flood) when the flood attaches itself to a human/alien (like lutenent jenkins) the host still retains all of their memories is compleatly transformed into a combat form and can still use basic communication
