people are so brainwashed with political correctness that they that they find racism where none was intended. "indian giver" was a common expression, and they just used it in a song.this was the 60's. you can't judge them retroactively by todays uptight P.C. standards. good song! nice keyboard work
@Federalwarhawk - If the words were "white cracker devil" instead of "indian giver", you might have a different opinion of what constitutes uptight political correctness - LOL.
I love these videos! thanks for posting them..It's great to listen to them but putting a face on them and they way we used to dress..wow! classics never die!
@federalwarhawk Well, it's how you look at it. Indian Giver is a term refering to the Eurpoeans (white man) giving worthless land to the Native Americans then taking it away when they found it was valuable.
@fffreddie Actually it was a misunderstanding of cultures, indians would give the whites
something only to establish barter and trade , and expected white people to give them something in return, The white people saw it only as a gift with no strings attached, and when the whites did not give them something in return, the indians would demand their item back,
@federalwarhawk Well, it wasn't a misunderstanding. Europeans knew the customs. When dignitaries went to another country they knew they were to bring gifts. It was the arrogance of the Europeans that looked at the natives as savages. To go to another country in Europe or the East it would have been an insult not to bring gifts to the heads of state. The African tribes were no different. If you entered their land you brought gifts.
@fffreddie Why would a white man of that time, that came from a society that had written language, science, art, mathmatics, astronomy, mastered navigation of the world oceans, built huge cities and forged great weapons of war from iron, put people that lived in houses made out of mud or animal hides, and fought with stone age weapons
@federalwarhawk Exactly. It wasn't a misunderstanding. It was arrogance. They knew proper protocol. They had enough experience from the first settlers that encountered the natives.
@storrs19 It's from Upbeat (Cleveland), but I think it was syndicated. The Ramones mentions the show in their song "Do You Remember Rock 'n' Roll Radio".
@jadis420 The times weren't as good as you remember them. Did you know the U.S. was at war with a country on the other side of the world, one with which they had no quarrel?
@zapkvr I agree. Some of us kids were in grammer school and we were tought that we were "the good guys" and the vietnamese were "the bad guys" I remember our 6th grade teacher would write the body count of dead "bad guys" on the board and us dumb kids would all cheer!
My mother searched Morgan City, Thibadeaux, Houma and finally found the 45 for me in Franklin, LA. We kids were crazy about this band and especially this song.
Wow... great vid! So interesting to see the evolution from pure bubblegum. Good stuff! A little sad to leave the sweet fantasy world behind but I'm sure they band became crazy to grow. Thanks for the post!

That looks like David Cassidy on the keyboard, and this song would be considered racist in todays age of uptight political correctness,

This looks like it might have been from a local tv show. I know Cincinnati had such a show similar to Hullaballo or AB in the late 60s.
