Maple body and ebony fingerboard? I guess that Cantrell is highly influenced on old Kramer guitars ;) Change the pickup with any pickup with a ceramic bar in it and that guitar will be so shrill!..
this is probs a stupid question so bare with me.why has it got only 1 pick up?,would'nt metal/grunge need more then 1 pick up and only has a volume knobe.
@tommW13 I believe this setup is saying that simply Jerry almost never uses other than rear pickup and volume knob throughout his play.
Having less circuit in guitar contributes to wider range, especially in high end. It helps to prevent the tone to get muddy, and to cut through clearer in band sound. And the more mass and weight the body has the sound become fatter and heavier.
Also maybe looking different, or by having only 1 pickup, makes cool sometimes, too.=)
@anoshinyamo so if since he only has the rear pickup and wants a warm sound would he get the off hes amp settings instead of his guitar? thanks for the help
@tommW13 I guess it depends on songs. My memory is so long time ago so not that certain, but I believe he uses Crybaby wah pedal through Bogner amp, and sometimes Gibson LesPaul. Probably leave wah pedal closed some way to curve the tone like tone knob, and uses LesPaul for fatter or warmer sound. Bogner Fish preamp, which he uses, has got only 3 channel and he is not so effector-guy either, so it seems he makes various tone mostly by picking through that simple equipment.
@anoshinyamo true,he uses the guitar with the marylin monore pic alot for most of his songs, except for check my brain but theres probs more.He also uses allot of amp and pre amp combos like mesa and bogner ect,he uses alot of wah and the roto vibe and other stuff but as someone once said ''make it simple stupid.thanks for the help
It wasn't clear if this was the Tribute import model or the US model, which costs almost 4 times as much. He did mention "affordable" a few times, so I have to assume Tribute.
sounds great but it has an ugly ass color, btw whats up with everyone going to kahler's? kerry king, jeff haneman, jerry cantrell.... are new kahlers better than floyds or what?
@johnathandk42134 only if you dont' bend the strings alot. they're alot smoother of a pull, but if you bend the strings they go right out of tune, most guitarist fix that by bending down after they bend.
@karonhiio1992 that sucks cuz i bend the hell out of my strings, oh well I'll just stick to folyds or probably end up goin to hard tail bridges in the not so distant future.... thanks for the reply
@johnathandk42134 dude, the slayer guys have been using kahler for decades. Kahlers are a far superior tremolo system in my opinion. They're easier to use, stay in tune better and about a million times easier to change strings. Also, with a Kahler, you don't have a hole all the way through the body of your guitar since they're top mounted. Adjusting string height, intonation and leveling the bridge are also significantly easier... and no I don't work for Kahler haha
@syclone1931 you sure sound like you work for kahler lol jk, ive been coming to realize how often i dont use my whammy bar so ill probably start using guitars with TOM style bridges or some type of hard tail bridge... thanks for the info though
it's refreshing in a way to see an artist who uses a guitar with inly one pickup instead of overly complicated multi pickup guitars with complex wiring etc.
@dorillo765 tiny hands aren't that big of an issue. it's the way you grab the neck. you can have small hands and still reach far enough. in my oppinion this paul guy isn't much of a guitarist. not good at all.... he just has the job, most of us dream of =D
@mod3l I guess you said it right. Paul isn't a "great guitarrist", he just know the chords, some solos, but he ain't got the musical talent to impress any guitar player, but I respect him for have one of the best jobs in the world. :)
@dorillo765 I have a bit bigger hands and been playing for 18 years but they play much, much better. I respect Paul and those who give extra effort for smaller hands. Thumbs Up!
@851852093114208513 i'm not 100% sure, but they actually can't play certain stuff due to copyrights. if you've seen the GW review of the randy rhoads amp, Paul says he'd "do his best" to recreate the tone. but thats just my speculation.
dont buy guitars from todd at the music farm and beatstreet music .those scum bag b-sdtock slinging pricks .young dudes take my advide save and buy a carvin or handmade g&l or bc rich .go to ed roman .com he will set u all free .

Wow youre an asshole for dissing G&L like that, but your the cool type of asshole cos you direct ignorent people... Like my self.. to look at carvin guitars... And totally redeem yourself lmao ;P, theyre beautiful guitars.
@flonkertonband Hmmm, its a bit of an offputting sounding problem but Surely it cant bad as the jagstang, mustang or jaguar. If not then im more than happy to purchase this guitar, cos as far as trem systems go, i dont use em that often so it wont really effect me too much. I hear the quality (USA) version is just the tribute version with a pro Kahler bridge and a seymour duncan pickup in it.. i'd just get those parts and add it to the tribute model and save some dollar, but thats me.
@flonkertonband Sounds like the springs to me... fook sending it back to G&L, take it to a proper music shop... Ive had that problem with a number of guitars the best one being the fender jagstang lol... that thing was jokes.. pretty sure its weak springs dude.
That guitar sounds fuckin killer clean and distortion tones. I love the tones from that custom wound pickup. Overall an awesome guitar. Hope lots of people get it.
i played this guitar today........oh my god!!! it sounds fucking great. great tone. keeps in tune really well and the fine tuners are great. it's pretty light. and it has a super fast neck.
And the first riff is a rip-off from Got Me Wrong. By the way, he mostly play rip-offs. And he is right, 'cause it's a Jerry Cantrell signature guitar.
Grunge?? They played in Seattle but fuck it shits me when AIC get labelled grunge...Great tone though and what a magnificent guitar. As a fanatical Cantrell fan i may be biased however...
waste of money 5000 dollars for a bolt on 22 fret neck guitar with one pickup there are so many better guitars for less money hell a gibson les paul axcess is cheaper and thats bad a axcess is 2500 dollars
@cobraopts7 The way better version is only $2000 which is less than the $2500 axcess. You may have seen the MSRP for it and not the actual asking price.
@cobraopts7 5K? Which model cost that much? The one in the review is a "G&L JC Rampage" I believe it's the 'Made In The USA' model? If I'm correct, which I think I am from look of the headstock (which reads: G&L RAMPAGE w/ Jerry signature. Oh yeah, I think it also says signature series under the G&L logo?)... Anyway, the G&L Jerry Cantrell signature series Rampage cost under 2k (which is still WAY to expensive!!!) & the G&L TRIBUTE JC Rampage cost around $600.
Ummm, that's not flannel, that's just plaid tweed. Flannel doesn't refer to the print of the fabric, just to the fabric weave. Flannel is what warm pajama pants are often made of, as well as bedding here up North. And Paul's shirt is too tight and has a preppy/country look. Furthermore, flannel isn't necessarily plaid. Therefore, that shirt has nothing to do with grunge.
Who knew guitar shoppers could be so fashion conscious?!? Back to guitars!
Do it man, amazing guitar! I ordered ANOTHER one (in ivory) after my black one came in yesterday. Idiots complaining about only one pickup & one knob don't know what they are missing...Its a very liberating and gorgeous guitar. And plus, having a tone knob robs some of your natural tone too.
haha i love the encouragement, but i think the lack of a neck pickup will deter most people buying this as a first guitar - as a 2nd guitar though it seems amazing, ironically i love the colour of the one in this vid (i'm a sucker for any white or cream coloured guitar!)
The color of the guitar is amazing, and someone getting a first guitar shouldn't go this high of a price and best not to start out with a special tremolo like this one.
@Iamfukenripped 8 months down the line and these rampage vids have become like heroin.... just sorted a job out, all being well, I should have this for christmas :D... selling my peavey to buils up some dollar too.... I CANT WAIIITT.
You gotta break it in a little (I think thats typical for all floating bridged guitars), but after a little bit, it starts holding it tuning once you wear into it some.
kahler actually stays in tune better than a floyd in my opinion but has vaery different feel, alot of ppl dont like the feel of a kahler, its better to palm mute with and is a low profile, but most ppl prefer the more muscular resistance of a floyd but you can get a kahler to stiffen up
Just remember G&L actually made very good cheap guitars like this one of course the USA model is better but this version is amazing! and friend of mine who has a small Randall KirkHamet combo makes that guitar sound like a monster
Musicians Friend has these for $599, free UPS shipping included.
Played one at Guitar center yesterday, neck is thin, maybe not Ibanez thin. Felt like a Fender American strat with the C neck shaved thinner (which to me was always Fender's thinnest to begin with).
Hung out for about 3+ hours there and the winner on the day for playability was the Ibanez Prestige, chords felt like they were being played half by guitar half by me, you know what I mean. Looks like I'm saving up for a Prestige!
Wow...what a nice, big sound! Incredible tone.

@theonetheycallderek
That's more or less what I was saying, but since someone noticed the shirt, I thought he might as well know that it's the wrong one.

RNRDOLL 1 year ago
haha i love the encouragement, but i think the lack of a neck pickup will deter most people buying this as a first guitar - as a 2nd guitar though it seems amazing, ironically i love the colour of the one in this vid (i'm a sucker for any white or cream coloured guitar!)
rchan0 1 year ago
The color of the guitar is amazing, and someone getting a first guitar shouldn't go this high of a price and best not to start out with a special tremolo like this one.

how is the tuning with the Kahler 4300 X-Trem tremolo ?
cobol11111 2 years ago
You gotta break it in a little (I think thats typical for all floating bridged guitars), but after a little bit, it starts holding it tuning once you wear into it some.
RNRDOLL 1 year ago
kahler actually stays in tune better than a floyd in my opinion but has vaery different feel, alot of ppl dont like the feel of a kahler, its better to palm mute with and is a low profile, but most ppl prefer the more muscular resistance of a floyd but you can get a kahler to stiffen up

Important to know what amp is using, I don't believe that with only that guitar and the JB, you can achieve that tone...
