Hey, does anyone think that 0:23 - 0:33 sounds like some of the music you hear when you land on Freedom's Progress in Mass Effect 2? Makes sense, since its both about exploring an apparently deserted planet. I hope someone knows what I'm talking about.
@finalfantasyst yeah exactly i think that song, freedom's progress was directly influenced by this song on alien's soundtrack. i noticed it too and went looking for this song on the alien soundtrack, good shit to know someone else noticed it too
LISTEN TO 0:00 - 1:30, IT IS DOWNRIGHT SINISTER AS F- - -
IF THEY CAN CAPTURE THIS VIBE — MUSICALLY, SONICALLY — FOR PROMETHEUS, I WILL BE BEYOND THRILLED. GODSPEED, SIR RIDLEY!!! CANNOT WAIT FOR PROMETHEUS!!! 6/8/12
a cool thing about the alien movie is that it's so focused and concentrated in it's awesome creepyness. At the beginning there only a small alien that jumps the face, not hundreds of massive aliens and gunfire nonstop. In Aliens (Alien 2) there is more of the "massive-aliens-and-massive-gunfire". And that is good too, but gets a different feeling.
Heres a tip from personal experience: Never listen to this track while working in your office at 11 o'clock at night when all the hallway lights on both floors are off and everyone else has gone home.
this one has to be the best sci fi horror movie ever made 2nd would be the thing it is such a shame they don't make movies like they use to have'nt seen a decent horror in decades.... lol i bet theres some right scary things out there in the universe but even more scary if its just us!
The score to 'The Shining' was in itself a fantastic orchestral piece of music, but in my opinion, it never quite worked with the film...Goldsmiths orchestral works on the other hand fit what's happening on the screen to perfection, and also work brilliantly as stand alone works. imo.
@mrpolaroid123 "The score to 'The Shining' was in itself a fantastic orchestral piece of music, but in my opinion, it never quite worked with the film..."
That's because it wasn't written for the film. Kubrick took concert works by Penderecki, Ligeti, and Bartók and edited them into scenes.
Fear not, in time those abominations will be forgotten, like the "Son of Kong" is today (the immediate sequel to King Kong) and tons of others forgotten sequals.
Fox wanted to earn a quick buck by hoping to appeal to the masses of videogame playing kids who like anything VS.
Now this is scary. This alone has the power to scare the shit out of you regardless of how stupid horror movie is. lol It's so dark and gets your imagination. I had a nightmare just listening to his last night.
this is my favorite track from the film! also it because it is the track used then they encounter the space jockey... one of the most interesting, eerie, and fascinating scenes in science fiction. but also, one of the most important scenes in the film.
@jonasbjarki And it's that scene that has made me a big fan. The enigma of the Space Jockey. Fyi, he plans on doing a couple of Alie movies to explain the enigma behind that. Giger 's vision is also what made this movie. Without him, that Space Jock and Alien creature wouldn't be. Even the organic like spaceships.
jesus this movie scared me.1st time i was like 8,i think my parents must have been drunk.had to sleep w/ the lights on for weeks.the perfect soundtrack too.
@Asdferfjg It was written for the acid test sequences, but it was replaced in the film by Goldsmith's Main Title for Freud, a score he did in the early 60s
in my opinion the alien from "alien" is the best designed movie creature till now. someone thought about any detail, if you watch the movies carefully, you will have no question left about it. near to perfection...
Is it just me or does the scene in Alien, when they're in the Alien spacecraft remind anyone of the deep sea salvage mission in Perfect Dark? It had that same creepy overtone. Maybe I'm just thinking too much. :)
I can only imagine what Jerry would do with the new Alien prequel coming up if he was alive today. He was really talented and part of the reason Alien was so scary was because of the score.
BTW: does anyone know if there is a track for the scene where they're trying to pry the face hugger off john hurt's face and the acid blood trickles down through the decks.
I've been looking for it and it one of my favorite parts of the score!
Smells like mystery and death.

@fermie125 I;ve always loved this soundtrack. I think one of the reasons it works so well is that it's so laid back and intense. Sparseness...

Well Wendy Carlos did the main theme, and she did it all on her synthesizers. She also had worked with Kubrick on A Clockwork Orange.
