  • Smells like mystery and death.

  • Truly great avangarde score, love it !!!

  • That flute in the beginning is haunting. Who knew that that instrument could be so terrifying?

  • I was not scared of space... until I watched alien. Now whenever I look at those hubble photos from nasa, this music is all I hear in my mind.

  • The chord after 3:52 is just AMAZING

  • Hey, does anyone think that 0:23 - 0:33 sounds like some of the music you hear when you land on Freedom's Progress in Mass Effect 2? Makes sense, since its both about exploring an apparently deserted planet. I hope someone knows what I'm talking about.

  • @finalfantasyst yeah exactly i think that song, freedom's progress was directly influenced by this song on alien's soundtrack. i noticed it too and went looking for this song on the alien soundtrack, good shit to know someone else noticed it too

  • @hadlow92 Reminds me of some1 trying to kick start a motorbike

  • Everything about Alien is genious, in every way possible.

  • LISTEN TO 0:00 - 1:30, IT IS DOWNRIGHT SINISTER AS F- - -

IF THEY CAN CAPTURE THIS VIBE — MUSICALLY, SONICALLY — FOR PROMETHEUS, I WILL BE BEYOND THRILLED. GODSPEED, SIR RIDLEY!!! CANNOT WAIT FOR PROMETHEUS!!! 6/8/12

  • @DJSpecialSauce amen to that!!!!

  • @DJSpecialSauce amen

  • Could this quite possibly be the single scariest soundtrack of all time? I don't know about you but its got my vote.

  • @fermie125 I;ve always loved this soundtrack. I think one of the reasons it works so well is that it's so laid back and intense. Sparseness...

  • Ahh, you got me Mr. Goldsmith! I jumped out of my seat at 3:51. Well done sir!

  • Ridley Scott gave us a masterclass in crafting a truly scary movie - and succeeded !!

  • a cool thing about the alien movie is that it's so focused and concentrated in it's awesome creepyness. At the beginning there only a small alien that jumps the face, not hundreds of massive aliens and gunfire nonstop. In Aliens (Alien 2) there is more of the "massive-aliens-and-massive-gunfire". And that is good too, but gets a different feeling.

  • 3:53 i nearly shat myself.......

  • Heres a tip from personal experience: Never listen to this track while working in your office at 11 o'clock at night when all the hallway lights on both floors are off and everyone else has gone home.

  • @shadowwolf41

haha, I've been there. It makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand straight.

  • @shadowwolf41

Could someone, or some"thing" be hiding in one of those dark offices?

  • 2 am, dark bedroom, up late working on an astrobiology assignment and listening to this all alone - I guess I did not get the tip.

  • The Space Jockey Was "The Skeleton's" name

  • The Space Jockey Was "The Skeleton's" name

  • this one has to be the best sci fi horror movie ever made 2nd would be the thing it is such a shame they don't make movies like they use to have'nt seen a decent horror in decades.... lol i bet theres some right scary things out there in the universe but even more scary if its just us!

  • The score to 'The Shining' was in itself a fantastic orchestral piece of music, but in my opinion, it never quite worked with the film...Goldsmiths orchestral works on the other hand fit what's happening on the screen to perfection, and also work brilliantly as stand alone works. imo.

  • @mrpolaroid123 "The score to 'The Shining' was in itself a fantastic orchestral piece of music, but in my opinion, it never quite worked with the film..."

That's because it wasn't written for the film. Kubrick took concert works by Penderecki, Ligeti, and Bartók and edited them into scenes.

  • @RogueRotting360 Doesn't change the fact it din't work

  • This is when they discover the Space Jockey. He expresses with minimal sound the terrifying situation

  • you know, this is art, or have you ever heard a similar sound before?

  • I wish more movies nowadays would have scores like this, not songs by big-name bands.

  • @Plummlets Agree. Orchestras where popular for movies during the 70's and early 80's. 'The Shinning' is another prime example.

  • @epics7, yeah. I never saw 'The Shining', but I gotta tell ya, the music in John Carpenter's 'The Thing' gave me the willies.

  • @Plummlets check out the shining. good movie.

  • @epics7

Well Wendy Carlos did the main theme, and she did it all on her synthesizers. She also had worked with Kubrick on A Clockwork Orange.

  • Everything about Alien is just pure brilliant, seeing the franchise being ruined by AVP etc makes me feel sick,

  • @xrollwiththehobox

Fear not, in time those abominations will be forgotten, like the "Son of Kong" is today (the immediate sequel to King Kong) and tons of others forgotten sequals.

Fox wanted to earn a quick buck by hoping to appeal to the masses of videogame playing kids who like anything VS.

  • Freaky-ass track, jerry knows his stuff! Alien...man what a classic.

  • From 2:26 on is some of the creepiest sh*t I've ever heard on a soundtrack.

  • GOD.

  • Now that's excellence.

  • Now this is scary. This alone has the power to scare the shit out of you regardless of how stupid horror movie is. lol It's so dark and gets your imagination. I had a nightmare just listening to his last night.

  • 0:00 just those opening notes ... freaking awesome!! :))))

  • this is my favorite track from the film! also it because it is the track used then they encounter the space jockey... one of the most interesting, eerie, and fascinating scenes in science fiction. but also, one of the most important scenes in the film.

  • @jonasbjarki And it's that scene that has made me a big fan. The enigma of the Space Jockey. Fyi, he plans on doing a couple of Alie movies to explain the enigma behind that. Giger 's vision is also what made this movie. Without him, that Space Jock and Alien creature wouldn't be. Even the organic like spaceships.

  • 3:50 scared the hell out of me

  • @adrianlindsaylohan Play this on your hi fi stereo loud. Lol.

  • Brilliant. Just brilliant.

  • ya i need to own this to i love the alien movies

  • jesus this movie scared me.1st time i was like 8,i think my parents must have been drunk.had to sleep w/ the lights on for weeks.the perfect soundtrack too.

  • Wow no this sounds alot like NIN.

  • @ThePredkiller Ha! Yes, i think you're right, but probably better to say NIN sounds like *this*... if you know what I mean

  • What part is it in the movie at the fast part in the music? (8:00 to the end)

  • taken out i bet.

  • @Asdferfjg It was written for the acid test sequences, but it was replaced in the film by Goldsmith's Main Title for Freud, a score he did in the early 60s

  • The part starting at 2:26 is truly brilliant. Whay wasn't that in the movie?

  • @dragmio Scott just wanted the eerie silence of Kane approaching the eggs, as opposed to music.

  • Im going out on a wild guess... but is this the part where Kane is going through the place in the spacecraft with the eggs?

  • scary as hell music in this film, alien is a classic i love it.

  • in my opinion the alien from "alien" is the best designed movie creature till now. someone thought about any detail, if you watch the movies carefully, you will have no question left about it. near to perfection...

  • Is it just me or does the scene in Alien, when they're in the Alien spacecraft remind anyone of the deep sea salvage mission in Perfect Dark? It had that same creepy overtone. Maybe I'm just thinking too much. :)

  • heres one thing i want to know is, what did the xenomorph look like that came out of the space jockey/ Alien pilot.

It must have been huge cause those things look 12 feet tall or more

  • @Colton5 yea me to? it must of been awesome.

  • Comment removed

  • 3:53 heart attack!

  • AAAHAHAHAHA! Who else jumped at 3:53? I sure did. Wasn't expecting that. The whole sequence from 2:26 with the creepy echo got me good.

  • @fermie125 i did

  • @ThePredkiller

Sounds like you don't know what NiN sounds like.

  • No it doesn't,

    NIN is awesome though.

  • I can only imagine what Jerry would do with the new Alien prequel coming up if he was alive today. He was really talented and part of the reason Alien was so scary was because of the score.

BTW: does anyone know if there is a track for the scene where they're trying to pry the face hugger off john hurt's face and the acid blood trickles down through the decks.

I've been looking for it and it one of my favorite parts of the score!

  • @SuperDuperSentinel. I think the music for the scene you're talking about is called Acid Test on the soundtrack to Alien.

  • The Skeleton's beat definitely gives me the feeling of bones rattling.

  • this music is simply amazing. It makes the film 50% more as effective! Cheers Goldsmith

i espessually find 2:26 to give me a unique frightened feeling espessually with the atmosphere of the film

  • Brilliant. I need to own this.

  • I never heard the part that starts at 2:26, thanks for posting!

  • awsome
