Hey Betty . I was just wondering if i wanted to use pumpkin pie spice , how much would i use ? And i wouldn't need to include the cinnamon right ? Answer back soon ~ Thanks (;
hello betty, ill be making this for my husband. he's requesting this kind of pie. here in our country, we don't have pumpkin in can, so, what do you suggest, can i steam the slice pumpkin and puree it with a food processor? no need to add water or salt or anything else? thanks.
@MommyNiMatty Exactly! Just cook the pumpkin until it is nice and soft. Peel and drain and chunk it up. Blend until you get pureed pumpkin. You may add a little salt, but that's not necessary.
@bettyskitchen thank yo very much :) im asking questions so that i wont make mistake in baking these dishes thus it will taste good with your recipe. thanks again. :)
@TianTianYouNi You will be fine if you leave them in place throughout the whole baking process. If the pie or the crust is not brown enough when you take the foil off, just leave it in the oven for an extra 5 minutes.
Thanks for this great recipe Betty. Can I cook this with pre-baked pie crust? If so will the cooking time change? We don't celebrate thanksgiving in England but that doesn't stop me from trying out your great recipe :)
@ashleybunify Yes, you may use a pre-baked pie crust. It will not change the cooking time, but for any pie that bakes this long, it is a good idea to put some aluminum foil around the edges, to be taken off near the end of baking.
Wow betty, gorgeous recipe! I am making my very first pumpkin pie this thanksgiving and look forward to you being there in the kitchen teaching me every step along the way ( on laptop lol :D ) Thankyou so much for sharing this with us, have a happy turkey day!
Hey Betty, I tried this recipe along with your pie crust recipe. The final product was absolutely delicious and rich. Thank you for making easy recipes for beginners like me :)
Dear Betty, I love this recipe. I'm gonna make this one day. One question, how long do these keep cause my family and I might not be able to finish it in one day.
@Louise4251 If you refrigerate it, you could eat on it up to a week. If you freeze it, you may keep it (well-wrapped) for a month or so. You might want to slice it and get out a slice or two at a time and thaw them.
@kcirish I actually usually leave them on the entire time, and the crust still gets golden brown. You can check when the pie is almost done, and if the crust looks pale, take the foil off. Otherwise, it can stay the whole time.
I live in Dublin, Ireland and have never tasted pumpkin pie as its not something thats popular here. You would only see a pumpkin (a whole one) at halloween and even than, they are not used as food, just to cut a face out on them and put in the window. Getting tinned (canned) pumpkin is next to impossible here. I think Im just going to have to get a tin of it shipped over to me so I can make this pie. You make it look so wonderful Betty. P.S, I could listen to your accent all day :)
@kcirish Thanks for your sweet comment! You can take a pumpkin and peel it, cut it into chunks, and boil it in water until tender to replace the canned pumpkin, if you like--I know you will have to wait until it's close to Halloween!
@bettyskitchen I did the impossible, I found canned (tinned) pumpkin in Dublin. I think only one store in the whole city stock it. I had to pay $3.60 for one can of it but I dont care haha, Im all ready and Im making your pie tomorrow. Wish me luck :)
The use of condensed milk here seems so much better than the usual 1/2 cup of sugar plus 1 cup of thick creme. Probably less drippy (and less fatty too). Will try this recipe tomorrow night. Thanks, Betty.

I finally find your pumpkin pie recipe. The ingredients used are the same as in mine, except that I use cream instead of condensed milk. Yet the condensed milk sounds like an excellent variation tip, i´ll try it this time and will let you know about the results.
@sjoepa The canned pumpkin is mashed and salted. You may cook fresh pumpkin until tender, putting some salt in the water. Drain and mash and then continue with the recipe.
I've never made pumpkin pie before, I haven't even ever made a pie before. So, like are there any tips you'ld give, because I am going to try to make this when we have people over, and the last thing I want to do is screw up. And I can't really test it out because my mom says I can only make it once (she isn't a fan of pie) so like.....any tips that would help?
@noorrulespll This is a good recipe to follow--and easy, too. The biggest thing to watch out for is to make sure the pie doesn't burn on top or on the outer crust before it is done. You can put a sheet of aluminum foil on the top rack of your oven, and you can cover the outer crust with foil, curving in around and squeezing it together. You can remove the foil when the pie is nearly finished baking.
@bettyskitchen Thanks. These tips really paid off. And when my cousins tried this recipe, they couldn't help but asking for more. Thank you SO much. Without your help, my amazing dessert feast would have sucked. THANLS A BUNCH.
For next time, should I try canned insides instead? For this one I used fresh insides, and I don't know what would be better.

Is "sweet condensed milk" what we call Custard in England? I don't think we get it in England otherwise. We don't celebrate thanksgiving but would love to bake this for Halloween.
@bettyskitchen Hi Betty. I've done some research and it is not custard (I'm very new to baking!). I know where to get some now so will follow your recipe this autumn. I'm growing some pumpkins so I might use them. Looking forward to more videos Betty. Thanks a lot for sharing your cooking tips :)
@bettyskitchen I'm not from England, but I'll chime in anyway. Custard always consists of milk (or cream) mixed with eggs, and other ingredients. In the US, condensed milk has a syrup-like consistency and comes in cans. The companies make it by removing some of the milk's water and adding some sugar. Evaporated milk is exactly the same except no sugar is added. (So if you're using evaporated milk to make a pumpkin pie, then you'll need to add 3/4 a cup of sugar.)
@listerstorm239 Evaporated milk IS NOT like condensed milk. It has gone through a different process and also the consistency is different...DO NOT substitute evaporated milk for condensed.
@bettyskitchen we do have condensed milk in england. most supermarkets sell it. its in a white and red tin made by carnation i think. just ask a supermarket attendant it can be in the baking isle, the deserts or near the custards.
I looove pumpking pie, your recipe looks great, i'll try it, i don't know if we have that canned pumpking down here, i'll have to buy some in my next visit to the states :D

No, it will be fine; I've done that many times. You just need to cover it, and remember to get it out of the refrigerator about 4 hours before serving, so that it will be at room temperature. It will be great!
Hi Betty: I have always made my pumpkin pies using evaporated milk and sugar, but yours looks so great, I want to try using the sweetened condensed milk instead. Also its a bit easier. Would you say they are close in taste & texture? Thanks so much.
Yes, I have made both types. They are very much alike, but I think the one with sweetened condensed milk tasttes a little betterr, and it's a little easier! Thanks for your lovely comment!
Thanks so much Betty...I'm going to try it this week. I was just tuning in to your eggnog video, lol. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving...Blessings to you and yours.

Did you use a pure pumpkin purée ? Well great vid. At first I was wondering why u were putting condensed milk but I realized that u put no sugar, and do u have to use that brand? Thanks for the recipe. I'm going to use this for thanksgiving
Yes, it was pure pumpkin from the can. You do not have to use the same brand, but it needs to be sweetened condensed milk for this particular recipe. Thanks for your lovely comment!
I never had a pumpkin pie in my life though we eat pumpkin on a weekly basis where i live but it's a savory component in stews or with lentils, I will inshaAllah make the pie this weekend it'll be something new for the family but I saw some recipes where they add marshmallows do you think it's a good idea? sorry for the long comment ;)
Hi! I'm glad you are going to make the pie! You will enjoy it! Yes, you can add marshmallows, and they will be great with the pie! Thanks for your lovely comment!
They dont sell pies that beautiful in the deli..you did a great job. You are so right, those store bought pies are so shallow and mostly all crust....I like a good amount of filling! I will give this a try, it couldnt get any easier....have you ever tried a pumpkin trifold with gingerbread cake and whipped cream, those are delicious! Your videos are great...tell your husband that you are cute as a button.
Thanks for your lovely comments! No, I have never tried a pumpkin trifold with gingerbread cake and whipped cream, but that sounds really great! Thanks againg for your comment!
I will be uploading some Thanksgiving dishes in the next couple of weeks, but I will have others mixed in! I hope you will find some that you can use! Thanks for your lovely comments--You are the sweetest person!
I should have cut it--You probably noticed the two slits in the top, where I tested for doneness. That will give you an idea of the texture and sturdiness of the pie! Thanks for commenting!
Mera, it's our job to make people hungry--and to provide a variety of foods to satisfy their tastes! Yes, everything is good for me and my family--I hope the same for you! Have a great evening/night!
I don't think so. I don't have them in front of me, but there is no reason for there to be less sugar, and it tastes the same. I don't think they make a reduced-sugar variety--sorry. Thanks for your question!
hey betty!!! sorry i havent been around much. ive been busy and working :) i hope ur doing good and i love your outfit and this is my favorite pie:) hugs an have a great weekend.

Did you use a pure pumpkin purée ? Well great vid. At first I was wondering why u were putting condensed milk but I realized that u put no sugar, and do u have to use that brand? Thanks for the recipe. I'm going to use this for thanksgiving
jenniexpark 2 years ago
Yes, it was pure pumpkin from the can. You do not have to use the same brand, but it needs to be sweetened condensed milk for this particular recipe. Thanks for your lovely comment!

I never had a pumpkin pie in my life though we eat pumpkin on a weekly basis where i live but it's a savory component in stews or with lentils, I will inshaAllah make the pie this weekend it'll be something new for the family but I saw some recipes where they add marshmallows do you think it's a good idea? sorry for the long comment ;)

We don't have thanksgiving here in the UK.
Hugs to you both xx

I should have cut it--You probably noticed the two slits in the top, where I tested for doneness. That will give you an idea of the texture and sturdiness of the pie! Thanks for commenting!

i forgot to ask...does the low fat sweet milk have less sugar than regular?
notnormalbuzz 2 years ago
I don't think so. I don't have them in front of me, but there is no reason for there to be less sugar, and it tastes the same. I don't think they make a reduced-sugar variety--sorry. Thanks for your question!
