o and i think mine if from 2006 but i see on here all the problems with them i havent had any problems since i fixed the melted cable from the owner before me i run windows 7 ultimate and upgraded everything to latest like the bios to 2010 and it runs awesome cpu is a little slow for my liking but ill change it later
i have and am using the dv9000 (dv9033cl) the after the recall but i got it for free off a guy cause it was doing the same thing and he couldnt figure it out but i started to pull it apart and i only got the cover off for the speakers where the touch buttons are in front of the screen and the connector cable melted and was arching out making the laptop turn off for safety reasons.... it was one of those tafe looking wires so maby something melted in there causing the same thing
I had the same problem and I tried everything. My laptop was down for 3months but I am using the laptop right now. What I am going to tell you guys sounded crazy to me at first, but it works. 3 Technicians said buy a new laptop. The 4th told my to put it in my car and leave it for a day in the blistering sun. Then take it out and plug in on. Well guys it worked and I have been using my laptop for more than a month now. He said it was a heating problem but once it comes on keep it cool.
I also have a DV9000 that is doing this exact same thing. Ran great one evening and in the morning it was dead save the lights. I have seen several videos where the GPU chip was messed up but they tend to light up and keep lit. Is this the same issue? Or is this something else. After watching the GPU repair video I rather hope so! Very involved.
@JimCales i think based on your description you could have a faulty video card. Is it an Nvidia GPU? There was a recall on DV9000 models because of defective GPUs. I think I have a different issue as my laptop won't stay on at all. But when it does come on I get a video signal. Try checking out the hp.com forums
@4xdamage Did you try taking out the battery and putting it back in? This exact thing has happened to mine before and that worked.... but now mine has another problem, the damn video card and motherboard... too bad we both missed out on the class-action lawsuit against HP and NVIDIA
Take the battery out take power out of computer, hold the power button down for 5min. Plug power back in start up. If it don't work unplug power again hold power button down 5min again put battery back in plug power back push power button keep doing this and it will work.
I have the same thing but it is a dv9000 same thing I have no battery I have the charger please help me any one

(To the motherboard)
With constant overheating the solder connections start to partially melt. This creates poor contacts.
Hence what you are seeing.
There is a 'cure'. Increase the surface area of the graphic chipset's metal plate, and resolder the graphics chipset back into place.
(Best method is with a BGA Rework Machine. Anything less, and you are taking chances)

The processor socket has 478 matching socket holes.
With a BGA surface mount there are no contact pins, nor socket holes.
Solder Balls take the place of the contact pins.
Copper Pads take the place of the socket holes. (processor socket)
The graphics chipset is set into place, with the Solder Balls lining up on the matching Copper Pads.
Heat is then applied at a specific temperature, and length of time.
The solder balls melt, which solders the graphics chipset to the copper pads.

Jeez!
The problem is the cooling system is inadequate for the GPU. Graphics Processing Unit, or graphics chipset.
The small metal copper plate that sits on top of the GPU is TOO small. (The processor's small plate is barely adequate in surface area size)
The graphics chipset is mounted to the motherboard via a BGA surface mount.
To explain the BGA surface mount;
Compare to an older Intel Pentium 4 processor, that uses a Socket 478 processor socket.
The processor has 478 socket holes.

PEOPLE!!!
I HAVE FIXED THIS PROBLEM BY BUYING A HEATGUN AND HEAT THE LAPTOP MOTHERBOARD-PROCESSOR AREA WITH IT FOR 10 SECONDS!!!!
I SWEAR I DID IT AND IT WORKED FOR ME!
also if it doesnt work after you heat the motherboard, try to start the laptop with ESC button OR turn your laptop UPSIDE DOWN!!
THE CAUSE OF THIS SHITTY PROBLEM IS THE HEAT PRODUCED BY LAPTOP PARTS SELF AND THE LOW-QUALITY SOLDER THEY USED.
for everyone who doesnt understand the above text MAIL ME:
