Well it's good for bands to have a sense of humor in their songwriting. Noel always had a good sense of humor in interviews and things, but he just couldn't find a way to mesh it with the riffs he stole so earnestly from the Beatles and a myriad of better bands. The result is bland universalism characterized by songs like 'Live Forever':

I'll ask you the question I ask every Oasis fan, why would I listen to Oasis ripping off The Beatles when I could just listen to The Beatles? There's a giant difference between referencing influences and slavishly copying them. Most of the time, Oasis couldn't even bother with changing the key of the riifs they stole.
