its not the drivers fult.. nor the car.. imagine a freeway with a bike line on the side or one with people free to walk in it.. whos gona be at fult.. why dont people get killed in F1 races.. becouse they are standing in a safe distance.. behind the fences.. im not saying they gata put fences at the rally stages.. but people gata have enough understanding to know those guys are trying to race.. stay the hell away.. group B for the win..
If I were in Joachim's place in Portugal 1986 I would be sure get off the car and punch the guy to death who ran cross the road in front of the car before the accident.
fafe lameirinha with the spectacular jump ( salto da pereira ); but the whole stage was insane ... i believe there could be easily 200.000 people all along that stage ( but it could be even more).... that was something that we will never see again...it's impossible to reproduce that;
The croud of course, the driver was just trying to avoid 2 ppl that were on interior curve and lost control of the RS...what do you expect from a machine with more then 500 bhp when it gets out of control? Off course an accident...
yeah, the driver should've simply thought like sebastien loeb... his words were something like "for me they're all bushes, i couldn't drive these races otherwise" so whoever gets in his way's a fucking moron and on his own
dont you understain that was the portuguese people that made the portuguese rally the best rally in the world five times. It was dangerous but i'm shure that the pilots love it
How stupid can you be to think that the drivers love to hit people on the side of the roads...? You cant drive correctly if you have to take care not to hit anyone... Concentration is the most important thing while driving a rally car... And when every second counts, being distracted can cost victory or even your life and the lives of spectators... So dont tell us, drivers love portugal for its "Brave" people...
This is portuguese, transulate yourself.
Comments made at the time by the likes of Marku Allen, Tony Pond, Malcalm Wilson, Peter Ashcroft, Timo Salomen, etc would lead me suggest that you are incorrect in your assumption.
The crowd control on event like the Monte Carlo, San Remo and Portugal were a joke compared to the RAC and 1000 lakes. I just feel sorry for Juan Santos.
Some stupid people say that 'we' were responsible for the end of the Group B. We helped, yeah, but think about, Surer, Toivonen, etc. They didn't crash in Portugal... A few days after Toivonen crashes at the SS-18, the Fédèration Internationale du Sport Automobile decided to cancel Group B. However, ther's no excuse for these images...
the portuguse rally is like this since 1976 thats ten years to FIA solve the problem and the portuguese organization was well but the guilty isnt all from portugal...
On the Audi film its taken from all the bonnet cam footage is from the 1985 porugal rally and the exterior shots of the quattro, are a mash up from portugal 85, 1000 lakes 85 and san remo 85.

Do you know how the pilots were able to do that??
They said that they looked to people and pretend they were trees.

It's from the 1985 Portuguese Rally, I'm sure. It's close to the famous "Fafe" jump, if I'm correct.
The onboard in original status, clearly shows the "Rally Vinho Porto" sticker on the bonnet.
