Harry S.Truman (who only was vice president at the time) told that he didn't mind the nazis and communists fighing each other and that the USA should support whatever side was losing. Hitler knew that if he didn't invade the USSR in 1941, Stalin might attack him in 1942. Also at the time the German army was incredibly dependant on the oil from Romanian oil fields and if the USSR took those, then the initiative would be lost for the Germans. Hitler knew very well it was a gamble invading the USSR and that if they didn't get a quick victory then they'd be in deep shit, but he saw no other options, even if his generals were against it.

Uh, Germany DID conquear all Europe save for Great Britain before you interveined. The only countries that weren't conquered were other axis countries and "neutral" fascist countries like Spain and Portugal, as well as those neutral countries which provided Germany with money and steel (Switzerland and Sweden).

Alone in 1941 3 Million Soviet soldiers were captured and 3 Million killed.

20 Soviet soldier died for 1 germany!!!!

From 1942-1945 another 5 Million were killed and another 5 Million captured.

Soviet soldiers died in Germany captivity were 3,4 Mio- germans in Soviet around 1 Million- of the 110 000 captured at Stalingrad only 5000 returned.

Axis casultees were 6,5 Mio dead- Allied were around 15..

And since 1943 the USSR got an adwantage of 1:4 in tanks +planes

Western Aliied casualties amounted to less than 1-million troops KIA on all fronts. Stalin & Beria purged the USSR's military of 30,000+ good officers before WWII, and that was one of the main reasons if not the main reason the USSR suffered so many causalties in the frist 2-years of the war.

The reason the western casualties amounted to less is because the MAJORITY of Germans were fighting on the Eastern Front, and it was the MAIN front as far as Hitler and his generals were concerned and were the war would be won or lost. Here's a fact for you which you can verify in any good history book about WW2. 80% of all German casaulties in WW2 were on the eastern front, and since they fought 3 bloody years there before you landed in France it makes perfect sense.

On D-day there were some 60 German divisions in France, compared to over 240 German divisions spread out on the HUGE Eastern Front trying to hold the Red Army back. The Battle of Kursk was the largest tank battle in all WW2 and the theatre which took the most human lives on both sides was the Eastern front.

Also axis countries like Hungary (300,000dead), Romania(350,000dead), Bulgaria, Finland, Croatia and many others fought on the Eastern Front and died there.

Western allies never faced the amount of German panzer forces, heavy guns, men and equipment they had on the Eastern Front.

American live under the illusion they defeated Germany when they invaded France in 1944, when millions of Germans already had died in the war and they were already retreating on the Eastern Front.

@sashiburidanaryuk Mostly, they had the element of surprise and had a massive head start at mobilization. As later soviet commanders would prove, their blitz strategy was sort of a one hit wonder :/ It all depended on the enemy being unprepared to handle a breakthrough.

Once everyone got used to tanks and mechanized infantry and had gotten their industry into full gear, German attacks got less effective and their tech advantage slipped. By the end, only their tanks were the best.
