I used to fight off bears myself, but since I took an arrow to the knee, my cat does it.

That is the toughest cat I have seen. They were not competing for food sources so I think it was protecting the family which provided it food and shelter. I am impressed.

In her defense, she seems surprised to see the cat go after the bear (notice the camera suddenly lifts after the cat runs by), and, frankly, if my cat ever decided to attack a bear, my immediate reaction would probably be to encourage it as well.

French Canadians, especially the ones living in Québec and the Atlantic Provinces have retained quite a few "old french" expressions that are no longer used in France. "Viens-t'en" is one of them. In France people would say "viens ici" or "reviens".

In my opinion, the best thing to do in this situation is to quickly grab something that you can wave over your head, like a broom. You should have two people start running after the bear while waving brooms around to scare it off. The taller your object you wave above your head, the better off you are. But you have to act fast BEFORE it finds garbage or food. If it finds food, it WILL come back and be more comfortable which is bad.

For the record, what I picked up was that the initial laugh from the woman was a nervous laugh. If you listen, she's still shouting when she first laughs. Of course, her baby only heard laughing and just laughed right along with it. He didn't know any better.
