B251: Its ok I see that you weren't Fireservice. It was a bit more than car fires tho. My watch was on 4 aircraft crashes, 5 if you count Stains, some engine fires,one was Concorde with 3engines on fire at start-up, plus odd tyre burst fires on hard landings. In one week 2 aircraft over shot in bad weather and run off the end of the runway. Plus a few more that the other 3 watches may have had over the years. Plus our Amb calls, most days, that you get in a town the size of Heathrow. Cheers.

Well there are other airport vehicles that travel along the runways and they need to be alerted the same as on the streets. Plus the sirens can also be heard by the pilots in cockpits while they are taxiing along the runways.

I bet the passengers on the plane at 0:33 onwards were scared. I would hate to be on a plane and see tens of fire engines go rushing past.
