  • Le Roi may have been a great sax player, but I wouldn't have asked for anybody other then Jeff to fill his role.

  • @1995billy Maceo Parker? supposedly he was Roi's favorite

  • This is why I love the live recordings..cause you can't hear the audience which obviously has something going on thats more important than this awesome music!

  • I've never had such a long orgasm...

  • the flecktones man :)

  • these 2 are amaezing...wow!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i like how jeff has his back towards the audience, not out of disrespect towards the crowd, but he's like carter wants to dual? fuck it let's jam.. it makes the performance so much more intimate

  • @bobsacamano8

hell fucking yeah. I agree with you 200%

  • This is the best Beauford/Coffin solo I've ever seen...I wish they'd release this Fenway concert as a DVD.

  • the way carter fills jeff's sax is unreal. great natural chemistry

  • 3:30 i think carter broke a stick, tossed it straight up in the air to get a replacement. and... that stick came down and hit him on the head... then it bounced to the right. He didnt even react to it and u cant even tell that he changed stick by listening.

  • @sga86...that and the piece of wood that goes flying 12 feet in the air

  • I agree... Leroi was a founder of this band, and will always be remembered RIP, however coming from a saxophone player coffin is cleary better techiniquely and higher register

  • Dear jthekk,

itS very obvious you know your music. I agree you, even though I do not know that much about music how to arrange, that sort of stuff. On the other hand, I know that, THOSE TWO ROCKED THE MESS OUT OF THAT SONG!!!!!!

    Peace,

    EX

  • R.I.P LeRoi

That being said, damn Jeff can play. I know his style is different but he impresses the hell out of me. Put on a great show

  • Dave is awesome. People at Dave concerts are retarded.

  • at 3:31 it looks like carter breaks a drum stick... incredible show definitely the better of the two nights

  • i don't know about you, but i hear a pretty clear story in his playing...maybe you should just open your ears to something besides what you are used to from LeRoi (R.I.P.)

  • hey go12go u stink u dont know anything about dmb so shutup there amazing including cofflin

  • The video title is very misleading. Its ibvious that jeff is a great musician but LeRoi set really high standards, the song sounds amazing but maybe we're so used to hear Leroi that anything else sounds lackin' something

  • LeRoi's gone. It sucks. TOTALLY sucks. But there's no way to bring him back.

That said, Jeff rocked Fenway. I'll bet his teachers wrote "Plays well with others" on his report cards. Because he does.

Very bittersweet moment for me at the show. LOVED Jeff and missed Roi so much - all at the same time.

  • amazing night and i give the guy so much credit for filling in such big shoes of such a loved and amazing guy...hes also amazing great job jeff

  • Jeff is really a technical giant on the horn. His technique is far above Leroi's. But with that said, Roi really had a great feeling for his playing. His spacing in his solos was really groundbreaking in this genre.

I think they both bring different things to the table, and that's the great thing about DMB. Both are able to thrive in that environment. That really say s something about the band, to be able to provide a backdrop for both types of soloists. Great stuff all around!

  • I agree somewhat. but I think Coffin could fit in with a local jazz band at a hotel bar, but if you put Leroi there, people would wonder who he is. He plays jazz and tunes that are catchy and you can build songs around. Coffin is a follower who does more random walk tangents...

  • I hear ya. I do think Jeff is more adventurous in his playing. He'll go a bit further "out". Roi did as well sometimes though with some chromatic licks.

I think Jeff's background in the Fleckontes has something to do with it too. That group is always playing some crazy stuff (modulations, time signatures). I really enjoy Jeff's playing, and I can certainly respect Roi's playing. They're both a hell of a lot better than me, and I try to learn and take a big from both for my playing

  • you obviously don't really know anything about the man, do you? if anything, Coffin is more accepted as a versatile jazz saxophonist on the level of Michael Brecker (I really hope you know who that is). LeRoi was an exceptional saxophonist with his own style that fit the music of DMB very well. That is why his sound matched well with the songs. Coffin plays a much different style that is technically "more jazzy" than the style played by LeRoi and fits differently into DMB music. Deal with it.

  • hes not LeRoi but he was a great choice to fill in for him...hes different but he sure can play.. as for him and carter on #41.. this is nothing compared to them do it at the Beacon last night...

  • nobody cares about your opinion. if you think DMB is "done" why are you watching this incredible video of a sold out show at fenway? coffin is a great addition to band and this solo shows it.... sure theres nothing like leroi but you dont have to bash dmb. as dave would say "if you like it, good if you dont like, what im suppose to do?"

  • r u wacked out of your head. god your an idiot leroi had lots of soul and was kick ass im not saying that but to say he's on another level than jeff your insane and very fuckin bias because you like dmb and leroi plays for them. i love them both for the record. i mean common jeff played with bela flecka nd victor wooten. two of the greatest musicians in the world. if leroi is at another level its probably a lower one but i don't like to judge like that. they're both incredible.

  • @Go12Go Of course there's no comparison. LeRoi is LeRoi and Jeff is Jeff. You can't compare them because they're two different people with two different styles of playing that they both bring to the band.

Nobody cares about how he looks, and nobody should, coz people should focus on the music.

And so what if he jumps around playing? That's how he expresses his enthusiasm for the music. No DMB fan complains when Dave dances, so why should Jeff stop dancing too?

  • nothing like Leroi...nothing/// sorry Jeff

  • must be because... he's not Leroi?.. his own person mayhaps

  • sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo good i was loving this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!good night!!

  • CARTER. BEAUFORD.

  • It deserved a bigger applause.

  • man, Jeff is hell of a saxophonist...damn great. and to the performance of carter I can just say WOOOOW...great, great, great

  • Just awesome.

  • i love carter beauford. i love how he tosses his drumstick at about 3:30 to grab a new one. so flawless.
